  1. Nice. Wife and I grew up in Ft Lauderdale, so I have rolled into Port Everglades a million times, but when we drove up and saw how HUGE that ship was, we were floored.
  2. It's terrible they try to stay in business and make a dollar. TERRIBLE!
  3. I see so much wasted soft serve ice cream, its stupid. Half eaten cones or bowls tossed aside, kids and drunks making a mess of it late night and they're broken as often as McDonalds' ice cream machines. No big loss Good beef costs more
  4. We are booked on a journey cruise in which we will turn platinum, so while we will get all the bag tags and colored cards, we won't get some benes because the whole darn boat is likely plats and diamonds or freshly minted ones since it's a 30 day one
  5. In general, the food is average, in MDR or buffet. Even the specialty places. The one thing I have found that is very good and is "authentic" as can be is the fish and chips from the dedicated seafood stations if you get it hot and fresh. I've had fish and chips from good chipperies overseas, and they got this one nailed. I doubt it's freshly battered cod, but it's well done frozen cod....or at least it seems like cod. The fried shrimps (lol) are good too
  6. Day/night before, grab a few Nescafe' instant coffee and fixin's Then next morning (or anytime, really), you can make your own fresh coffee. Always hot water on Lido. Even though instant, better than old coffee. Instant is actually pretty good and popular in other regions of the world. You can also pack a few zip lock bags and do a little prep work the day/night before by grabbing some bread products, sliced cheeses and meats, put in room cooler/fridge and you can do a euro continental breakfast in your cabin. Have to be creative
  7. This is why the no more full bottles in the room, more money by the ounce.
  8. On that Royal, we were the first "revenue passengers" is how it was explained to me, because they did have the usual VIP runs and a travel agent sailing or two.
  9. I wasn't sure, but was kind of hoping to be more Carnival specific as that is my preferred cruise line
  10. That's a pretty sweet and spacious cabin. I'm a balcony snob, but that's sweet and I'd be ok with that. (Water come over the windows? LOL)
  11. If you gamble, they're winning to comp drinks (In casino or out) because they believe they'll make up the difference in your casino losses. For me, that'd be true and more than fair. If you're not a degenerate gambler, like myself, their only other real hopes of making up money on you is the peripheral sales items, number one of that being booze, then other add ons like the spa as well other shipboard sales and also excursions. They're suffering financially, have to be, so priority #1 is "Butt in seats" and then it's sell you as much as they can while spending as little on you as possible. Welcome to business
  12. Was doing some spring cleaning (I'm late, sue me) and ran across these. Wife and I were on the inaugural Allure of the Seas out of Fort Lauderdale. Ever go on an inaugural cruise ship, itinerary or port and receive free goodies from it? Does Carnival do stuff like this on their inaugural cruises? Each night after dinner when we returned to our cabin, a new goodie was on our bed each night. If I remember correctly, we got these hats, towels, special pins and a few more goodies.

  14. I have only done a balcony and can't imagine anything else. I admit to being a bit of a loner/antisocial. I live in Florida, so out of habit I seek shade and avoid the sun. I own a pool that I never swim in. I enjoy taking my morning coffee or beverage back to my cabin, maybe even a snack, and chill looking at the ocean, alone....MY OCEAN...just me and the horizon. I put the TV on to listen to and read stuff on my computer (same as your reading a book). As a Florida native, my vacation isn't drinking, sunning or swimming, it's chilling my way. One of my other favorite things is when entering and leaving port is pier runners. I love watching and yelling for the pier runners to go and watching the crew get underway. I'm a curious (some say "nosey"...LOL) type.
  15. Sometimes it'll have an old or burnt taste. Have to scrub the tanks better to get that taste out
  16. Guess mine is..... "Carnival Journeys Some take vacations… and some take their vacation further. Carnival Journeys is a limited series of special sailings that’s made to amaze, starting with great destinations and less-traveled routes to get you there. Board a Carnival Journeys cruise and you’re on course for enriching experiences aboard, amazing destinations ashore, classic cruising flair and more." No real detail, but, cool...
  17. I know down below in the staff area, they have various ethnic stations and ethnic nights in the crew mess and I have both read and been told, that food is amazing. They allow more flexibility because it's for the crew, so it's more authentic
  18. Yes. Regular and decaf. I usually grab a couple extras in case they're out later and on final day of cruise, I snatch a few to take home.
  19. The buffet coffee is usually terrible. Now, don't scoff at this, but they do have Nescafe instant coffee. Americans have been trained to be adverse to instant coffee, but it's very common in much of Europe and it's really pretty good. Little bit of experimenting between amounts and you cream/sugar combo, you can beat the premade monster pot coffee.
