  1. Oh, I have a question. How do you pack for a 30 day cruise that will go literally from one end of the earth to the other? I'm a Floridian, I am going to need HEAVY warm clothes.... Plan to wash a few times? Plan for cold? Sun?
  2. I came here expecting to be alone! I mean, what kind of crazy lunatic people would sign up to be cooped up on a ship for 30 days! Have to be CRaZY! Hi, I'm Dave and I am incredibly insane. Wife, Zoe, just ignores it and goes along for the ride. This is something there is NO WAY we would ever do, but there is a treat at the end of the cruise, my wife's Brother in Law lives in Perth. So for a nice cut rate casino rate, we got a balcony cabin in the spa level, we've done that before, for our ride Down Under. It's nice. So, we see places we've never been and a cheap trip to Australia, only have to pay a million to fly back, instead of 2 million for return. Haha. We are both retired Floridians (I'm a rare native Floridian) living in Daytona Beach (Hurricane Nicole was FUN!!) We've done a bunch of cruises, all Caribbean, east, west and south. This 30 day cruise will up us to platinum, Sweet! Looking forward to all the stops, well need to figure out excursions. I am looking forward to the "Journey's" aspect of it, especially the more educational....Like I said, insane,,,,,,stupid, whatever. What they do extra to keep us happy...... https://help.goccl.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3936 Pack a set of all white for a white night and go to the costume shop for retro 80's stuff. I am just clipping on a rat tail, some super short shorts and a cut off T shirt. Looks so awesome on my 6 foot 160 lb frame....dig up some old Nike track shoes. Think weed will be ok to really set the look? Oh well, in a good mood and excited for this trip. Been in a stuck place after a knee replacement that went bad and has had me kind of jacked up bad for over a year, but I seem to now be on the good side to recovery. Oh yeah, the scar is on my right knee, so you can ID me....haha
  3. Anyone doing the 30 day Seattle to Brisbane, AUS next year....can do it all twice!
  4. Check with your carrier, but international calling is so cheap now. ATT is $10 a day. I think I read T-Mobile is also $10 per day for international. So every time you hit a port, switch it on, 10 bucks, but you can also do emails, texts and more. Totally catch up for 10 bucks Check with your carrier
  5. Just left Cape Canaveral area, it's not too bad. No ships were in of course, but nothing looked amiss and nothing has been said on local news about any damage at the port.
  6. Does Carnival or any cruise line typically do anything special when you cross the international date line or equator? You know, forced to get tattoos while drinking whole bottles of rum? Some King Neptune party?
  7. Dunno, guess bar is different. I know I went into the candy shop and they have a cooler of sodas in it, asked if that was included, they said "no"
  8. Do you plan or care which side your cabin is?
  9. I am a Florida native. I don't lie in the sun, I avoid it. Have beaches, avoid them too. Lifetime of "been there, done that." We like to travel, but some ports after 5x are dull. Any of the cruise line private islands are boring. Some ports really are the same thing over and over. We enjoy the cruises for just getting away, relaxing, chilling and sometimes that's in the cabin. It's a change of pace. We stay on and the ship is empty and our own (close to it). Discounted spa and other things.
  10. Never invest what you can't afford to lose. Never gamble what you can't afford to lose
  11. I think they'd reach a tipping point on pricing, where no one will buy it anyway, like let's say twice it's present cost w/Carnival which already exceeds MSRP. They want you out of your cabin. They've never wanted to keep you in your cabins, just like Las Vegas. Do all they can to keep you on the floor....ship is same.....do anything to keep you on deck and buying, putting stuff on your charge account. The worst customer for them is a discounted rate with someone who doesn't drink, gamble and do not spend on any excursions or upgrades. Nothing wrong with them doing that, but they're not money makers for the company.
  12. Hey, watch it or I'll have them take away your towel animals
  13. But the paid person gets to keep the cabin, solo, correct?
  14. Sure, welcome to the market. But at least your loss will be at it's lowest price not highest if they fail
  15. The company lost their butts over the last few years. Not long ago, many of you were willing to do anything to help get cruises back. Carnival and the industry in general has a choice....raise the price of the fare significantly, turning away customers immediately, or remove many of the small perks, most of which are insignificant, like crappy chocolate on the pillow
  16. I've been on some of the giant ships, like over at RCCL, and I don't need Disney World at sea. They're too big. I get that the idea is not just the ability to house more people, but be able to spread them out so it doesn't seem as crowded. It's still too big. Don't need a 10 second roller coaster costing me $20 a pop Don't need a bicycle in the sky Too long of lines for too short a ride.
  17. Where you cruising from? I can tell you for a fact that in Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach or Fort Lauderdale beach, you can find someone to give you lessons. Likely in a pool. Seriously. Many teaching places have their own dive pools for teaching, way easier than open ocean.
  18. I've mentioned this before in hopes that one day someone with some sway can work it out... I wish there was a printed fleet-wide menu of mixed non-alcoholic beverages. Everyone is different, so I can only explain MY feeling and that of some others I have talked to. As a former professional drinker, retired, it is intimidating to walk up to a bar and not know what to ask for. Coke/pepsi is easy enough, but that gets boring. Some will say "Just tell the bartender what you're looking for." That's hard to do in busy, noisy, loud bars and clubs onboard. It holds things up for you and your drink. Just a printed list of available non-alcoholic beverages and prices.
  19. Didn't she do her first cruise this week in Australia? No photos?
  20. Lessons? Have a pool nearby? Buy a kit, no fins, mask and snorkel, cheap is fine. Get in pool, put it all on. Stick head in water. When you go down or underwater, hold your breath. When you come back up, blow real hard to blow out the water, breath normally while looking through mask. $5 please
  21. That was our first cruise ship, out of Port Everglades (Ft Lauderdale)
