  1. Don't know the current situation, we visited Samana with HAL in 2014 and since we always go ashore in every port (unless HAL advises against it), we enjoyed this port and booked a private tour with "Terry". Apparently he is still in business, just google Tour Samana With Terry, an american who is highly recommended with his tours.
  2. Bon Voyage cate54, Annie & Kevin @Taters and to Tony & Martha @sailingdutchy
  3. Not on board, but on a different thread, they are described as the thruster covers, that are normally in place to guard the bow and or stern thrusters, maybe still to be installed after the recent thruster change, or maybe spare?
  4. Not wanting to get a discussion about green, greener, greenest, but I think it is more about not having the local exhaust fumes in port where the ship is docked, sometimes in populated areas, if shore side power is used.
  5. With Volendam as las ship to be finished, the whole fleet of DAM ships are now capable to receive shore side delivered electricity, if available.
  6. We did the Y1L Land first, Cruise Second Triple Denali last year and can highly recommend it. You can read our extensive report here;
  7. Thanks, but I cannot get to the US website, it directs me to the Dutch, where I cannot find the reviews.
  8. Hello fellow cruisers, we are looking at the HAL Shore excursion out of Halifax; ON THE LIGHTHOUSE ROUTE: PEGGY'S COVE LIGHTHOUSE & VILLAGE who has done this tour recently? If I look at reviews on the HAL website, the most recent review is dated October 2017!! If somebody has positive or negative feedback, this would be appreciated. Note: I do know there is also a regular private bus option, but this is in the afternoon and time wise not as efficient to plan our day.
  9. Great following along John, also followed the report on the medium we are not supposed to mention 😉, but this one is a bit easier to read, all concentrated. Seeing a lot of familiar places and reliving our own land/sea cruise from last year! Thanks for publishing this!
  10. So you don’t believe a captain 🤔 what is the world coming to😂
  11. I am no technical buff, but I don’t think changing services requires antenna change, just receiver or decoder, I think.
  12. I was on board of the historical crossing and it was stated more than once by the captain, which I even have on video somewhere and I have no reason to doubt a captain’s word! By the way, Starlink is by no means a magical bandaid that resolves all internet problems. There will always be areas that are not or insufficient covered and it also depends on data use. If over 2000 guests stream what ever they can get in sight on their devices, even Musks network will not cope.
  13. Rotterdam was reported to have it October last year, as stated by the captain on board when we sailed her, captain Werner Timmers.
  14. Will follow you on both your blog and over here, looking forward to your travel review, hope you have an enjoyable cruise!
  15. Agree with almost everything, however we chose to buy the breakfast plan, just to make sure that it would secure us of a good start every (long) day during the tour and we were glad with our choice. As far as other meals; plenty of affordable choices in every stop, as well as some included lunch and dining in extra added tours. Given our experience with the breakfast, we would do this again.
  16. There are many different cruise tours by HAL, our experience is only on the Y1L specific! All transfers or tours on busses had sufficient amount of bathroom stops.
  17. The longer bus ride we had was comfy, intermediate long restroom break along the way, Fairbanks to Denali. Buses used on tours ranged from comfy to schoolbus (Denali National Park), no washrooms on board. All standard windows, scenic windows are on the explorer train between Denali and Anchorage and Anchorage to Whittier.
  18. Glad to hear it helped others, that was my intention of this report in the first place 🙂
  19. We will be visiting Baie Comeau on a cruise in September 2024. We have read on-line, that apparently there are shuttle buses from the cruise ship, going to town and also stopping at a so called cruise pavilion, where bike rental is possible. Has anybody rented bikes at the cruise pavilion and possibly have more information on that, regarding pricing, availability of routes and or maps? Thanks in advance for any help.
  20. Thanks John, we will wait and see, if they continue one show, it should be “Humanity”, but then again, such was also the case with “Droom”! 😎
  21. Thanks John, for this information, getting back to this topic, any information as to the new show(s) will again consist of a set of four shows by the one step dancers, just as they previously had with “Humanity”, “In Tandem”, “Musicology” and “Off The Charts”, or are they just replacing one of these shows?
