  1. Thanks for the level. I see on Cruise Mapper, no one is coming through from Nurnberg to Regensburg. A few ships are going up to Vilshofen, but back again to Passau. Our July 18 cruise is looking more like ship swaps unless there is considerable rain. Not an issue for us, but maybe for others.
  2. On Cruise Mapper the Viking Gefjon was in Regensburg to be headed to Amsterdam. But now it is headed back to Passau. Looks like the low water is catching up with the Viking ships.
  3. At the airport there is Fern (long distance, as well as Regional train) that is out of the Lufthansa Terminal (Terminal 1 I believe). The main train Station in Frankfurt is a short walk (although depends how many suitcases you have) by short 15-30min. I guess depends on how much the Avalon transfer is--but may just be best to travel to airport together.
  4. ;I've experienced it when it was low between Bratislava and Budapest. Our ship was quickly moved to Komaron on the Hungarian side to make sure we could get out of Budapest, otherwise I have not experienced any other low spots till past Passau.
  5. I see two Viking ships on Cruise Mapper sailing through that area, that's why!
  6. On Cruise Mapper I see a Viking ship tied up in Vilshofen. No reports yet of ship swaps.
  7. 2013 we were in an Explorer's suite. We very much enjoyed it. Yes, there was some vibrations from the engine, nothing we could not stand. Enjoyed the extra room. Verandah suites are nice too possibly less engine vibration.
  8. Well, we may be looking at a ship swap. We leave again mid July from Budapest to Amsterdam. We've never travelled in the summer, so it is as it is. Thanks for all the posts on water levels.
  9. No bussing needed in Wurzburg, you can walk right off. Go to the Residenz and enjoy the garden for an hour or sit outside at B. Neumann and have a Silvaner or any other cool drink or hot depending on the month. Walk to the old town and to the bridge and have a wine on the bridge. Lots to look at in the town. I love the Main river, but Viking usually sails at night and you miss some of the cute towns and castle ruins. Aschaffenburg has a beautiful palace and the Pompeiijanum (a replic of a roman villa from Pompeii) all right by the river, beautiful sailing by that. Lohr is where the Snow White House is and the tale was written. Mespelbrunnen Castle may be an optional excursion outside of Wertheim. Neat castle and history. Also you may stop in Karlstadt to let folks off for the Rotenburg Tour. That is a walled city and has quite some charm, worth checking out the church and spital church. We stay there quite often. Lots to see and do on the Main.
  10. Oh yes, we were just there the end of April---get a glass of Silvaner (dry white) or an Aperol Spritz, you pay for the wine and deposit of the glass. Bring the glass back and you get your deposit back. It is crowded on the weekends. But, I see you have already been! I hope you enjoyed!
  11. I love going to the Rococo Gardens at Veitshochheim. We went in April. Took the day ship from Wurzburg (was a sunny day) and just enjoyed the gardens. You may visit the palace but any tours only in German.
  12. All four ships were in Avignon when this all started, and they were unable to get two to Lyon. So all four ships are still in Avignon.
  13. Someone on the Viking Grand European Roll Calls, just posted and said heard there was ship switching in Nuremberg. Makes good sense.
  14. I see the Viking Lofn on the Main, maybe to pick up people from the Modi?
  15. My Oma and Opa immigrated from Silesia too around 1915 or so. My Oma's family had a small store in Gleiwitz (now Poland), my Opa was mostly Polish from same area. Small world!
  16. Very interesting you are posting about Inglostadt. In April we are flying into Frankfurt, then Aschaffenburg, Karlstadt, Wurzburg, Inglostadt, Berchtesgaden, Chiemsee, Rosenheim and back to Frankfurt. I have a painting from my Grandparents of St. Sebastian in Ramsau. Not sure why they got the painting, they were both from Germany/Poland, must of been in the 1950's. We certainly will look forward to Inglostadt, thanks for all your postings!
  17. Not always Veve Clicquot--in November on the Grand European we only had Ayala & Bollinger. I do prefer Vueve Clicquot. I did like the Ayala the best.
  18. No, the regular $500 per person and then balance due in April.
  19. We got that and booked it yesterday. The price is too good. I suspect there will be ship swaps and low water, but that just means less people on the ship for us.
  20. Let's not talk about Avalon's parent company Globus. At the start of the pandemic our Poland tour was cancelled and we missed the fine print and could not get a refund, so we held it over. We found another trip we liked added more money, and then in December this year it was cancelled for no reason, again credits, but we had our travel agent intervene and finally got all our money back. Left a bad taste in my mouth for that company.
  21. Wow that's the Chinese Restaurant and casino in bottom. Close call.
  22. Had snow most of day in Vienna. Went to Tat Haus Christmas Market, very crowded. One more day in Vienna and then to Budapest to end cruise.
  23. At Melk this morning very light rain. Sailing Wachau Valley now, just cloudy.
  24. Thanks for thinking of me. I slept through the night, but I hear from others it was ver very noisy. Scraping bottom. We love Passau a very comfortable town for us.
  25. The Viking Ve made it to Passau early this morning! Drizzle in morning, nothing significant. Already went to DM and Edeka for our Senf.
