  1. I got my maps out yesterday. Thought the mentioned port was the one we went out of in 2017, it was not. I still hope the sail out was pretty. Passionate for Venice, anything to keep it clean and safe. Happy Sailing. Ipswich Chris, think it was 1963,64 or 65 when I saw them, I will be 75 in August. Time flies.
  2. Hi, So glad you had a great trip. I had forgot the name of the terminal, thanks for that. Looking forward to our trip Reykjavik to Montreal. A bit different for us first of all it is north and on one of the motor yachts. Before that I will be up in your neck of the woods, Manchester-by-the- Sea, my home town. I am going to age myself I first saw Bob Dylan and Joan Biaz in Ipswich at the Crane Estate. The North Shore is as pretty as Cape Cod where we live now. Happy Sailing
  3. I think due to their small size Windsurf is docking in Venice. The giant ships are no longer able to dock in Venice for ecological reasons. Perhaps one of the most beautiful sails we have ever done is leaving Venice via the Laguna. Magical and a great feel alive moment. We are passionate for Venice. Happy Sailing
  4. Frankly, when traveling I think it is really important to frequent small local shops, and small town museums. You are supporting the local communities, you interact with the local people, you learn and spread good cheer. A small jar of local jams would be easy to wrap safely in your checked bags. Happy Sailing
  5. Yes, Cloudberry, known in Québec as Chicouti it is a small orange/yellow berry that in one berry there is more vitamin C than an orange and it looks like a raspberry. In Québec they are found on the North coast of the St. Lawrence in the summer. Delicious. Saw them when we sailed the north coast of Norway. Happy Sailing
  6. I was wrong motor yachts 312. Happy Sailing.
  7. The Surf holds more now due to reverting back to fewer suites I think it is 342 and the motor yachts I think have 325 not sure.
  8. We love the Surf because of the huge decks, the feeling of the sails, and we love sailing. We have been on a motor yacht once and are going again in September Iceland to Montréal and will write about it. When we took a motor yacht The Breeze ( pre stretch ) we loved the room, the French balcony, the service was the same, great and the food was the same, great. We found with 250 people, those days, the decks were more crowded, people chair hogged more, we did not like the lounge as much and of course the Sail Away was not as moving and dramatic. We also believe that the Caribbean, the Med. Sea and the lagoon in Tahiti scream sails. Too bad the Spirit is leaving Tahiti soon. We are looking forward to this experience with the new, stretched motor yacht. We will be able to judge more but then again we have a prejudice the Sails. We are also not into bling so not sure updated decor will impress us, probably nice though. I love the rooms and suits on the Surf but honestly on any motor yacht would have to have a balcony. That is simply us. It will be our 27 th cruise with WS. Our other cruises were a river cruise, the Hurtigurten to the Arctic, and supply ships up the St. Lawrence. Hope this was a bit helpful will write when we get back in September.
  9. We have tipped many incredible crew the last day discretely. We feel good about it and I am sure they do, we have been doing that since 1999, still do 27 cruises later. The crew are fabulous. Happy Travels.
  10. That is sad news we were on the Surf in Sail Amsterdam in 2015 and truly it was one of the greatest vacations/trips of our life. Truly one of the most beautiful. 3000 sailing boats, 7000 thousand boats in total. Most fantastic fireworks we have ever seen. Perplexing why they are not doing it again. Happy Sailing.
  11. Happy Sailing and make sure when you return you let us know how it went. Enjoy, be Safe, Susanne
  12. Hi Escriteur, It was so long ago 2011. Many cruises with WS since then. I think I meant that 240 is right next to the stairwell ( no elevators on the Spirit and Star ) the cabins have great sound protection but some people do not like being next to the stairs and do not like that. We have never had a bad room on any of the 27 cruises we have been on with WS. Then again we are not at all fussy. We crossed the Pacific and cruised Tahiti went she first went back, 2014. Beyond beautiful and being in that a lagoon on a sailing ship was absolutely superb. we think the lagoon screams sails. We loved every second. Enjoy and Happy Sailing.
  13. To Mnocket, Thank you, thank you. I goofed. We are on the 9/9 Star Pride Reykjavik to Montreal. We leave for Reykjavik on the 5 th with 3 days in Reykjavik. Very excited our 27 th on WS 25 on the sails, 2 on the motors one before the stretch and this one after. Excited to visit Greenland before the jet landing strip is completed in 2024, adore Quebec, sailed the St. Lawrence 2 times both on supply ships, my mother was born in Newfoundland, our 50 anniversary gift to ourselves. We live on Cape Cod MA, my husband is a Quebécois, adore WS Cruises, the Surf is our favorite, sailing my entire life. Hope to meet you. Susanne
  14. They must be chair hogs if you have to get to the pool by 6 am. I have never seen that happen on the sailing ships. People put a towel down but not many if them. It is announced on the sailing ships not to do that. Happy Sailing
  15. Brava to you, our favorite ship. Have a great sail.
  16. Hope you love your decision to be on a sailing ship in that beautiful lagoon, hope you can see the reflections of the sails as they bounce off the islands, hope you can experience the magic of silence as you sail without motors in that beautiful part of the world, hope you can imagine what it was like to sail centuries ago in the surrounding waters and hope you will never tire of magnificent vistas as you sail along. Happy Sailing
  17. We are in 511 for Reykjavik-Montreal, 9/5. We love the old set up, the sitting area by the FR balcony, read, watch, fresh air, very excited. Happy Sailing.
  18. Each to our own, love the Surf the most, love the smaller sailing ships too. We crossed the Pacific on the Spirit, superb and we continued after that for the Tahiti cruise, as well fabulous. We were once on a motor yacht the Breeze before redo, we totally enjoyed it, but missed the sails. As stated on the Pride for Reykjavik to Montreal in September can't wait. We think the Caribbean and the Mediterranean seas screech sailing as does the Lagoona in Tahiti. All good. Happy Sailing.
  19. I wrote a review ( review section of CC ) of our Christmas Cruise, I guess I am lucky I do not really notice things like scratches etc. I did notice the decking there were places it needed a redo. There was a sail missing but our other sails were up I would say 99% of the daylight, that I notice because I love sails. We could not go into Falmouth Harbor twice and St. Barts twice and at Prickly Pear were were anchored further out. The swells were big and speaking to friends in PR they said all winter thus far the Caribbean there has been different, rougher weather and swells. I have been going to the Caribbean sailing since I was 17, 74 now, it does seem to be rougher. 27 times with WS, all sailing ships with the exception of one, for what is important to me: sails, great shower water pressure and hot shower water, laundry service, greatest service is still there. I am at a disadvantage we have only sailed with WS with the exception of two supply ships and one river cruise. Yes, the a/c has been loud at times. On our Christmas cruise the food was the best we ever had. I mentioned that on my review. Food is my hobby, I can safely say it was superb. Lobster tails at the barbecue mean nothing to me they are frozen, then again I am from lobster land New England. I hope they spiff up the Surf, we adore her and that WS experience. I hope she is sail worthy long in the future.Missing sails need to replaced. We are on the Pride, Reykjavik to Montreal in the fall, can't wait. Happy Sailing all.
  20. The WS hotels are nice. We are staying in the Borg in Reykjavik with the "pick your perk " for the 3 rd night, we are going in 3 days early. We choose the Borg then found out it is a WS hotel so we took our perk. The Borg for us is about $300 no breakfast, the $ 200 for the perk is a good value with breakfast and bus to port. We love the Savoy in Rome it is one of 2 hotels in Rome with a roof top bar, porch, the sunsets over the St. Peter's dome, gorgeous, people are lovely, great location, that is a WS hotel. Of course what you pay WS is a lot more than going on your own which we do. Frankly we would not stay in any other hotel in Rome. In Barbados their hotel was, think it still is, Accra Beach Hotel ( spelling might be off ) nice hotel, great pool. beach walk to lovely restaurants. Always cheaper to reserve on your own but the perk makes for a great value. Is your 2025 a typo or are the schedules out? Happy Sailing
  21. I concur with R&RD, we fly into to San Jose, we love the Marriott near the airport, it is on a coffee plantation really pretty, we get a driver also. Depending where you live Liberia Airport might be easier to get to about same distance perhaps a bit shorter. Great Cruise Happy Sailing
  22. Hi, The Caribbean is also perfect gentle winds, We take a 14 day trip every January, this year we did 17 at Christmas. I love the BVIs, Ils de Saints, Bequia, St. Lucia. We like leaving from St. Martin or Barbados because from Boston relatively easy to get there. Also, on the Wind Star ( 149 pax ) they do nice Panama Canal, Costa Rica, great stops. I wrote a nice review of the Christmas Cruise on the Review section, it is the 2nd one in, opposite of the one star review. We do vacations with WSCruises and trips, 2 different concepts for us. Both are great for us. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. Happy Sailing ( Lucky you 9 times Tahiti, beautiful area of our world )
  23. You are missing a great experience. The sailing ships are our favorite. As for motion the sails can cause more stability not less, the ships have good stabilizers plus the sails. If you are looking for a cabin mid-ship, down on the first level calmest place to be. We have crossed the Atlantic twice and the Pacific once on the sailing ships and it has been smooth going. There are engines but when the conditions are correct the Captain shuts off the engines and you have bliss. We we fortunate to sail along the Amalfi Coast engine free it was heavenly. Of course the ocean is the ocean and it can be rough but I ( sailed my entire life ) would rather be on one of the WS Sailing ships than the motor yachts. Plus the deck space on a sailing ship is much bigger, less crowded. We have been on 27 WS cruises, 26 sailing, one motor yacht. The motor yacht was great and we are going on one again in September to Greenland but our hearts are on the sailing yachts. Give one a try. If you are going to Tahiti the Lagoon screams sailing, only way to go is under sail. Happy Sailing
  24. We have been in that room , simply fine, not have to worry about the elevator you can always easily get to your room. If you go to the deck plans 147, draw an imaginary line up 147 is very close to the middle of the ship if you are worried about sea movement. Have a great cruise. Happy Sailing.
  25. Brava that you had a great time. We live WS always have, one of many reason the size, zillion more as well. I assume from your other post Spirit/Tahiti, Tahiti shouts sails, enjoy.
