  1. What makes a nice gift is very individual. in Denmark, wine is often given as thanks for help. The most obvious is to ask your friend.
  2. It is a very nice hotel with reasonable prices. The hotel is located right on the waterfront. It is a bit out of the way from the center of Copenhagen, however, it is only 450 m (500 yards) to the nearest S-train station (Dybbelsbro) or the same distance to the Harbor bus stop - on the opposite site of the harbor over 'Bryggebroen' - a trip with the harbor bus is highly recommended - same tickets/cards as buses and trains (public transport).
  3. Unfortunately, Haugesund is one of the less interesting places to visit in Norway - I don't have any good suggestions - below some links for inspiration. You’re right - much better opportunities in Bergen, Olden and Geiranger. Do not miss the scenic sailing into Olden and Geiranger in the morning - you should plan to be at upper decks at sunrise (4:30 am) - same sailing in the evening however dining and entertainment in the evening. https://www.fjordnorway.com/en/destinations/haugesund-haugalandet https://cruise-norway.no/destinations/haugesund/ https://www.visitnorway.com/listings/explore-haugesund-and-it-surroundings-by-rib-viking-adventure/224291/?lang=uk
  4. You can use luggagehero or luggage boxes at Copenhagen Central Station. Luggagehero has storage options throughout Copenhagen. Note that shops and activities open at 10. An easy way to get from the center to the airport is by Metro from either Nørreport or Kongens Nytorv Metro stations or by regional train from Copenhagen Central - it takes 15 to 20 minutes. Metro every 5 minutes - regional train every 20 minutes. 3 zone ticket for DKK 30 - pay with credit card in ticket vending machine. You must be at the airport two hours before departure.
  5. It is incredible that a visit to Copenhagen does not last longer. Yes, very few are open at 8, but the vast majority of shops and activities open at 10. Any special interest? Do you know where the ship dock?
  6. not possible to do The Atlantic Road from Kristiansand - You are thinking of Kristiansund. Kristiansand is located in southern Norway.
  7. Right - If cancellation more that 14 days before travel the airline can either offer reimbursement or re-routing - UA has offered re-routing. I'm sure that OP can cancel and get points and fee's reimbursed.
  8. I cannot comment on specific cruise lines like MSC, Oceania, Viking, or Regent. Others might comment but then you should maybe post a specific subject for the cruise lines question. Just a few things to be aware of. September is a good time for northern lights but the deep Norwegian fjords are in southern Norway while the northern lights are in northern Norway - very few cruises include both the deep fjords and northern lights. In general, the cruise ships sail overnight and are in port during the day - this requires you to be up early in the morning or in the evening to see the coast when the ship sails. An option you might consider is Hurtigruten or Havila - they have a fixed schedule with daily departures from Bergen to Kirkenes (6 nights) or return (11 nights) - giving you the opportunity to see nature up close as the ships sail most of the time. Please note that these are not traditional cruises but ships on a regular schedule, but Havila in particular has brand new and comfortable ships with a good panoramic lounge - The food served on board is also excellent. You can find out more about Hurtigruten and Havila here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/663-hurtigruten/
  9. Its common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights I do not think that Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 will help in this situation - it is only applicable in the event of cancellation in less than 14 days. Article 5 In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall have the right to compensation by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 7, unless: they are informed of the cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled time of departure Also If they are informed of the cancellation between two weeks and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing them to depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival. 10. It sounds like a somewhat risky plan. There will not be much delay before the ship in Oslo has sailed. Depending on how early arrival in ship cleared in Stockholm and latest embarkation in Oslo. It takes one hour from Stockholm to the airport and the earliest flight it is realistic to catch is 11am - the flight time is one hour - including bag drop and driving from the airport to Oslo you can expect to be at the cruise terminal at 2pm If you can make the 9:25am flight out of Arlanda you might have less stress - the ship in Stockholm must then be cleared by 7:390am at the latest.
  11. A really good question. I have been on 30+ cruises - Ocean as well as rivers. I chose voyages (not cruises) with Hurtigruten primarily because of the time and itinerary. My primary objectives were the midnight sun in June and the northern lights in January - I combined the trips with stays in Bergen and Kirkenes. Also interesting with a working ship many short stops of 15 minutes are part of the ‘entertainment’ onboard. The food on board is excellent - daily local and fresh ingredients from the daily ports of call. There is no or very little entertainment but daily lectures about the areas passed. The route goes close to the coast and between small islands - a very nice nature experience. During summer navigating Trollfjord. 34 port stops between Bergen and Kirkenes, but with a longer daily stop, excursions are possible. I have only taken the northbound or partial route (live an hour's flight from Bergen) - for me the 12 days is too much of the same - many will prefer the 12 days return - same ports of call but port stops during night northbound will become stops at day time southbound. Example of a 15 minutes stop and Trollfjord sailing.
  12. Is your new booking on a direct flight from ATH to MUC?
  13. Honestly I think Olden might be a pretty good substitute for Geiranger. When I have to choose a cruise the date and ship also play a role. All other things being equal, I would choose an itinerary with most fjords.
  14. In the new itinerary, there are two deep fjord sailings into Olden and Skjolden - Olden has the Loen Skylift viewpoint and the Briksdal glacier (you can arrange trips yourself) - activities in Skjolden are more limited. Olden is a good substitute for Flåm. Ålesund is a picturesque coastal town - Skjolden has a scenic fjord sailing. There is no immediate option for Geiranger
  15. Activities/excursions in the same ports have been asked again and again - there is already a lot of information in this forum - try searching on ‘Topic’ and select this forum in the ‘Cruise Critic Community’ ‘ in this example I’m searching for ‘Molde’ in this Forum.
  16. It will be more than 7 hours in total via HEL compared with 1h30m direct CDG to CPH - in addition to AF you have SAS, EasyJet and Norwegian Air. Just make sure to book a ticket including luggage.
  17. Paris, Helsinki and Copenhagen all in Schengen - no passport control. A bit of a detour from Paris via Helsinki to Copenhagen with a 3 hour layover in Helsinki. It is much shorter from CDG to CPH than from CDG to HEL.
  18. @Caravan 37 Is it possible for you to share your experiences of finding available trains on vy.no when there were sold out elsewhere.. Others may benefit from your experiences.
  19. If I couldn't get the Hurtigruten for the price on the .no site, I would definitely book with Havila.
  20. Did you try to make the booking at the .no site? - as said I can choose USA as country as well as enter an US address and US phone number into their booking system.
  21. It is not legal to restrict access to make bookings on the .no site according to EU legislation - however, I do not know if it is possible to restrict orders outside the EU. I tried to initiate a booking at the .no site and could enter a US address as well as US phone number.
  22. No reason to feel like you are stalking - at first sight it is not legal to restrict access to order on the .no site according to EU legislation - however, I do not know if it is possible to restrict orders outside the EU. I think you should challenge the office in the USA on any price differences - also in relation to Havila. Anyway, Havila is a good option. The crews on Havila ships are coming from Hurtigruten. I tried to initiate a booking at the .no site and could enter a US address as well as US phone number.
  23. No, there will be no personal check of passports. However, you must expect some time from arrival until the ship is cleared and you are allowed to leave the ship.
  24. You can book at vy.no Book return from ‘Flåm stasjon’ to ‘Myrdal stasjon’ - No nede to stay in Myrdal - nothing to see. Make sure you book for the right number of people - my search was for one person.
  25. Yes, Havila generally has better prices - the purpose of dividing the coastal route among several operators was precisely to get competition on prices and service. Havila has had difficult problems getting their four ships into operation. Havila service is comparable to Hurtigruten. But in addition to the price difference between Hurtigruten and Havila, there can also be very large differences in Hurtigruten's prices on the various web pages. Prices on the Norwegian .no site can be up to 30% lower than on the international sites.
