  1. I second gnome12 - option 2. As it is an Arctic cruise to Honningsvåg og Tromsø, the dates also has significance for the midnight sun. Sailing through the fjords is breathtaking - be on the upper deck in the deep fjords already at sunrise. But I would also recommend a visit to viewpoints in Geiranger, Flåm or Loen (Olden).
  2. Your luggage will be checked through to VCE - customs in VCE. 1 1/2 hour for transfer in PHL will be fine. If same route back customs and immigration in PHL.
  3. I use momondo.com to get an overview of options, but most often buy tickets directly from the airline. Regarding the lay-over, I trust that the airlines indicate a correct transfer time. If changing flight in Europe, luggage is checked through to the final destination - flying back to USA customs processing takes place at the first airport - therefore I often choose that the transatlantic flight to the USA is to the final destination if possible.
  4. You can only book trains 120 days in advance at Vy - but in general train schedules are available by now.
  5. What schedules for May aren’t out yet? Immediately most schedules are available now.
  6. There is a bus from Honningsvåg to Nordkap (North Cape) - departure from Honningsvåg at 10:45 and back from North Cape at 13:00 You can find details and book at Snelandia Travel planer, (use Norwegian Language spelling) - App also available.
  7. In fact, you can walk - also by bus, train or rental car, but of course it very much depends on from where in Portugal and to where in Spain. It will help if you can be more specific.
  8. Looks like Ålesund is replaced by Nordfjordeid and Molde. For this Itinerary only sailings to Geiranger will be restricted from 2026 - hence only second cruise if only doing one. No restrictions for all the other ports of call. In addition to Geiranger, restrictions sailing to Flåm from 2026.
  9. Some inspiration for Skagen - and City map
  10. Thank you. Yes, the area around Græsted and Gilleleje is my absolute favorite in summer. I will also say too early or too stressful - need to be at the airport a 7 AM - traffic can be heavy in the morning. Hope you enjoyed the additional day in Copenhagen.
  11. Happy New Year. Yes, you have Business Class check-in and SAS Fast Track - usually not more than 10 to 20 minutes in total. Two hours will be sufficient- not a problem at all - also time to enjoy a light meal in the SAS lounge. Enjoy your flight.
  12. If you compare ports for the 12 and 14 nights the 14 nights is better. It has three deep fjords, also Olden - and Stavanger is a nice coastal city. Molde and Haugesund are very similar.
  13. English is not my first language so I don't always understand the nuances of questions. Trains will most likely were sold out at the Day - limited capacity. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Tickets can be purchased now (2024) at Norways Best - many trains are already sold out. You can also purchase tickets at Vy.no 60 to 120 days in advance.
  14. As the title of this topic is saying ‘The Flåm Railway’.
  15. All three are good itineraries with deep fjords (Geiranger, Flåm and Olden) and good coastal towns (Bergen, Ålesund) The two longer cruises are Arctic cruises to Honningsvåg (North Cape) and Tromsø - the cruise in June is definitely the best as it has midnight sun in June - August is too late for midnight sun. The short cruise is a classic Norwegian fjord with two iconic deep fjords and one coastal city. The 12 or 7 nights are two good options - personally I would choose the 12 nights - does include Arctic Circle crossing and midnight sun.
  16. Depends on when the ship is in port. If you can disembark no later than 08:30, it is not a problem to catch a flight to the US at 12:30. It takes 30 to 40 minutes by taxi from Oceankaj terminal to CPH airport.
  17. Yes, it will be great to cycle from Myrdal to Flåm - bicycles and helmets can be rented in Cafe Rallaren in Myrdal - cycling is possible from June to September
  18. Booking at Vy.no will likely be more expensive than Norways Best. Myrdal is only a station located in the mountains. You can book one way to Vatnahalsen and walk back to Flåm - 20 km and 4 to 5 hours. If you buy a return to Flåm you can leave the train in Vatnahalsen and enter again when it’s returning to Flåm 20 minutes later. take the train to Myrdal and back and plan for hiking in Flåm - Link to hiking map
  19. In Oslo look for Scandic Oslo City, Thon Hotel Opera, Strawberry Comfort Central or Strawberry Amerikalinien - all hotels close to the Central Station. Convenient to take the train from airport to Central Station.
  20. You’re right - no fjords included in your itinerary. Depending on time of arrival/ departure in Ålesund there might be time for an excursion by bus or boat to Geiranger Fjord - might take 6 to 8 hours. Must be Purchase in advance. In Honningsvåg excursions to North Cape or the Gjesværstappan Nature Reserve must be purchased in advance. In Tromsø you can take the Fjellheisen cable car to the view point. Also Leknes, Tromsø and Honningsvåg are inside Arctic Circle but August is too late for Midnight Sun.
  21. Do not fully understand your comment with reference to size of ship. There are no size limitations for the UNESCO Heritage fjords - only emission. Size doesn't matter for the deep fjords.
  22. Nice Norwegian ports - St leaset one iconic deep fjord and Nice Coastal cities - assuming June/July with midnight sun at Lofoten Islands, Tromsø, and Honnigsvåg (North Cape).
  23. If Scotland and Iceland cruise #1 - if Norway #3 For Norway #3 Eidfjord is less interesting, Never heard about Farsund as cruise port and Sandnes is located 10 miles south of Stavanger. Geiranger and Skjolden are located in the deep fjords. Bergen and Ålesund are nice coastal cities.
  24. I’m not an expert in this field, but it is my understanding that international regulations do not require immersion suits for all passengers on cruise ships - there are, however, national regulations and regulations for ships that sail in Arctic waters - I mean MS Maud sails under Norwegian flag and also used for Arctic cruises. This are the rules for Danish ships: ”For Danish flagged passenger ships trading in Greenland, Artic and comparable waters, immersion suits are required for each person on board. During the period from 1 May to 30 September, passenger ships may undertake individual voyages without carrying immersion suits for all persons on board, on the condition that the persons who are not provided with immersion suits are provided with thermal protective aids.”
  25. Take a chance with a bid for an upgrade - Business is somewhat better on a long flight.
