  2. Just off the Triumph where the options were discussed with us. Our cabin chose once a day and got late morning (our request). WE had towel animals and all - for me it was perfect. My daughter's cabin had a trundle bed so she got service twice a day to clean and put the trundle away and then to set the trundle up for bed time. We could have had what ever we wanted.

  3. Texas, New Orleans and Miami for right now...word is on fb is that it is working so well they will be going fleet wide with it. I personally dont know if thats true or not.

Worked perfectly in Galveston last Thursday. The biggest difference was the lack of really backed up traffic at the port. We had a 10:30am boarding time, got there about 11:05 due to Houston traffic. The only time we had to slow down to boarding was to get our sign and sail card, and no one was in line ahead of us. Walked right on and had my Guy's burger by 11:40am.

  4. I have a "hidden gem" room and wouldn't dare changing it!! [emoji5]!! That room is a steal and I'm too excited about the view. I'll just lay in bed and watch the view! Thanks for all the responses. Another question, is there DVD players in the rooms?!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

I agree, that is a wonderful room! I have cruised with my grandboys when one was aged 14 months - 3 and 9. We are cruising again tomorrow - YIKE on the Triumph. You can ask for milk at any time on the LIdo deck buffet - someone will get it for you. That room is perfect, lots of floor space for active crawling around. My grands are great about falling asleep for naps without it being quiet - so I could always have the tv on for my entertainment in our room.

  5. We actually did book early. I booked vista a couple of months ago...but do to scheduling reasons...I have to change the date we travel. So now...instead of sailing on our original date of Jan 28th we need the march 11th sailing.

We live in galveston and sail from here all the time....I refuse to fly to miami to sail western carribean (its pretty much the only ports you can go to from galveston). If i'm paying for flights we are sailing to eastern. Plus I want a new ship.

You moved to a Spring Break Cruise - thus the price jump. Kids out of school makes all the difference in pricing!

  6. I just took advantage of that sale over the weekend - we cruise on Thursday on the Triumph. The boys are so excited! (three grandboys - ages 2, 5(turning 6 on the cruise) and 11. Second cruise for all of them. We did Alaska last summer. Both my adult children and their families as well as two friends - going to be such fun - rain and all according to the weather report.

  7. Ok, thanks, I guess I will force my 14 year old into something other than basketball shorts. He refuses to wear anything else so don't want to spend money on something he'll only wear once. But I guess he might be able to get away with wearing the same pair in the dining room every night.

Just a suggestion, I spent 30 years teaching debate and coaching speech teams where kids had to dress up for the events: I made several trips to the local Goodwill stores - local cleaners send their things that were never picked up. Good buys on button down dress shirts for kids as well as khaki slacks can be had for a few dollars for these events. Never spent more that $5 on a full outfit, usually with a tie thrown in.

  8. We will be in Cozumel on Saturday on the TRiumph. Weather report is for 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms. WE currently have the dolphin swim booked for 7 of us including children. Should we cancel and then hopefully be able to rebook while on board if the day turns out better than the report? What are the chances it will be cancelled if there is lightning with the storms? Hate to lose $700 if it is seriously storming, but hate to lose out on the chance to swim with the dolphins with my grandsons. What to do, what to do?? Advice?

  9. If you have not ever boarded at Galveston, you probably don't know about the horrendous traffic jam is caused at the port. I plan on a hour after I arrive in Galveston just to be able to get out of my car to get my luggage to the porter and then get the car to the parking garage. I have a 10:30 check in time on Thursday and will hope that this staggered boarding times will help the traffic flow as well.

  10. Will be on the Breeze the last week of March. Keeping our fingers crossed we will get to see Star Wars at sea!

What made the large group unique to NCL? Couldn't the same thing happen on any line?

But since on Carnival, I can choose to do set time dining, I know that I can be seated on time for a dinner in the MDR with my grandchildren at an appropriate time - on that NCL cruise, I would get to the MDR at 6pm with three hungry boys (ages 2-11) to be told the wait was 2 hours.

  14. OK, some logic here! Priority guests get other services that take time for the stewards to get ready for them. Choosing a time, tells the ship's personnel what time to expect these priority folks to be looking for a fully serviced cabin. If none of the priority guests choose a time - there is no order for the stewards to have the cabins prepared. Also, without those set times being reserved, other guests will be given those times and the ship will expect those people -then stir in 100+ priority guests who felt it wasn't necessary to give Carnival the heads up that they were arriving, it slows down the whole process and forces those who actually chose their time and were not priority, to wait while the priority guests get PRIORITY.

  16. The major difference is that there is no fixed dining option. It's all anytime dining and, in my experience, NCL does it better.

My big problem on my recent NCL was that we were sharing the ship with a very large group that used the cruise as a sales award - every night they took over one of the two MDR - and we never knew which one it would be until we convened there with plans to meet our group only to find out we had to go to the other dining room, which by the time we would get there would be swamped with every one else on the ship - waits were upward of two hours for dinner so we ate at the buffet every night and it is VERY repetive - same food choices every night. I said Never Again on NCL unless I could find out if it was hosting a large group before booking - just wasn't at all enjoyable with very venue crowded with that group.

  17. One thing this will hopefully solve in Galveston (I board next Thursday, snagged a 10:30am arrival time - that was still available last week) is the "storm the Bastille" mentality when boarding actually begins. I am on a scooter and have had to maneuver through hoards of folks with late zone assignments who get up and rush the line as soon as they announce wedding parties boarding - less of those folks waiting will make things run more smoothly.
