  1. I sailed with my whole extended family recently, my son, who was watching every penny was unaware of the refund and had not checked his account because he knew none of his three family members had charged anything to the room. When he got home, he received a port charges refund check for almost $60 that he wishes he had enjoyed on the ship instead! I didn't think to remind him because I have sailed more often than he has but it was not his first rodeo!

  2. I'm sure you'll get a wide variety of answers. I personally wouldn't have allowed my kids to sign out at 9. I would have let them leave together if they let me know they were leaving but they would have had to stay at least in pairs (have 4 kids). I wouldn't let them run around a strange town alone and a cruise ship is essentially a floating city and like or not, not everyone on it is a good person. Also not every child is going to make the best choices all the time, especially when influenced by new friends. I at least want to know where they are and that they aren't off on their own running around the ship totally unattended for hours at a time at that age.

YUP, my whole family was standing in line at guest service to get some keys changed, and while my son-in-law was holding y 3yo grandson's hand, a guy walked by and set his bourbon on the rocks on the table next to grandson who immediately picked it up and downed it!

  3. Hand & Foot: I thought our family members were the only ones who played this. My 90 yr old motheris addicted. Yes buying a bunch of "full" decks for a dollar would be sweet.

I live in an apartment complex for folks over 55 and we have a mad game of hand and foot going on every day! She needs to be here!

  4. It was the front desk that told me the Casino sells the cards for $1.00.

FYI: the casino decks which are $1 have no Jokers so if your game requires those cards, you are out of luck. I play hand and foot and would love to have a bunch of new decks for $1, but really need the jokers.

  5. I loved the conch balls!! I also got the coconut shrimp. They were good but my fave was the conch. Also had fried chick peas in bowls for free. Ask for some they are a good. I had never heard of those.

I think they are fried pigeon peas. I had to learn to make them at home after our cruise on the Magic.

  6. We all get along really well and have at 1 point in or lives all lived together. Lol did you like the triumph?? I found a balcony midship on deck 8. My MIL is game. I just don't want an obstructed view.

You can google to find an image of this set-up on the Triumph. We did this in March, my daughter, her husband and their three kids - you just need to be aware that there are only 2 real beds. There are then 2 bunks that pull down from the ceiling and a roll away/trundle that is smaller than a twin sized bed and is not very comfortable for a full sized adult - you would have to rotate sleepers on that bed so no one gets stuck there for all 4 - 5 nights.

  7. Ours were Monday and Thursday. Monday was Lobster Tail and Tiger shrimp and I think prime rib - i ordered both - we shared the prime rib among the three of us at the table. Thursday was a filet mignon and short rib (duet of beef). Each of those nights, there were 3-4 entree offers plus the 4-5 choices that are offered every night.

  8. Carnival discovered that a lot of the information they were given as to deck plans before the launch were incorrect. I booked a cabin clearly marked as handicapped in the first day that bookings for 2017 summer were available. My PVP had checked it thoroughly for me as well. Newer deck plan maps show it is not handicapped and there are NO interior handicapped spa rooms at all on the VIsta. When I discovered it while researching my cruise, I called and was able to be relocated to a room that has satisfied my requirements. Try to find out which of the maps is the most recent - after the launch and after the cabins were actually in use.

  9. Are the cabins worth the extra few dollars....my sister and I are not "SPA" PEOPLE per se...but I kinda liked the location .....thoughts?

I am not a "spa person" either, meaning I don't spend money on massages and such, but the wonderful aromatherapy rooms with heated loungers and the adults only thassalotherapy pool to sooth your skin and muscles is well worth the extra $. I always book a spa room on Cloud 9 equipped ships.

  10. How so?

We just hand them the birth certificate, they look at the info, and handed it back. Not sure how a passport would be easier than that.

At the Galveston port, the lines are divided between passport and not - passport lines are much shorter and take about 1/3 the time that the other lines take.

And another wrinkle, my wallet was stolen last weekend at a local store with all my ID in it - took my passport to the Driver's license bureau today and my wait was about 1/10th of what the others' waits were who had to have an enormous amount of doumentation.

  11. First of all...congrats on being a mom of 6...those little boys look so precious and your family is just beautiful. you are my hero. it takes all my strength to deal with the one little toddler I have.

What a beautiful thing you are doing by welcoming them, raising them and giving them your name. I am in awe!

BNBR, I'm going to have a 2 1/2 year old when our cruise goes sailin' in January. he hasn't yet spent any time on an iPad or other device, are there any specific things you can recommend for that age group? I will put some movies and shows on that he likes, but really curious about what games he might play. I am clueless!

I'm following the thread because I'm curious myself about advice for cruising with a toddler. It might easier for GAmomof6 since they will be in the same age group, but I have a little clinger on my hands and he hates being handed to strangers. I'm hoping he gets over it by the time January rolls around...and I am working on potty training him to boot!

AS for games, in the IPad app store, just google Toddler Games, I load several different free ones for my grandson who just turned three on a cruise in March. Then I figure out which ones he likes the best to buy the full version - usually about $2-3. I do find that his two older brothers(12 and 6) will become entranced by the toddler games when he is playing and they all get involved. One of his favorites is a doctor game where he has to take stickers out of someone and put bandaids and casts on cartoon patients called My Hospital.

We have swam with the dolphins in Cozumel and road a bus to and walked on a glacier (when the little was 16 months old). They really like to just tour around the ship and people watch - and eating as much ice cream and pizza as they can knowing it all comes to an end when we get back home.

  12. I would love to try this...but I was looking at the menu....I don't eat tartar...actually I don't eat ANYTHING raw....some of the food names, I don't know what they are! LOL

They will substitute things that you are allergic to or really have an aversion to - I don't like salmon so on one cruise they used tuna in my appetizer and on a recent cruise they used tofu - a first for me and it was wonderful. It is an occasion to try new things and be adventurous. If you don't like to do that, then use your extra $ for a trip to the steakhouse which is awesome as well.

  13. Wouldn't he need a valid photo ID and his BC to get back in through customs?

This is the problem in a nutshell - getting on is not the problem, getting off the ship back home creates a big problem at customs. It is the government that did not let the boy on the ship not Carnival. And it would be the government that would have the problem at the end of the trip with no valid ID - no way you can be assured that the "same friendly customs agent" would be there on debark day.

  14. Sail & Sign card goes in the pocket... I've never understood the fascination people have with wearing them around their necks...

You are assuming women's swim suits have pockets or have a man around to tote all their stuff in his pockets. I am old and wear a lanyard with a plastic pocket on it for my DL and S&S cards and a few dollars for bar tender tips. I wore one for years when teaching school, doesn't really bother me to wear one now.

  15. You got it! I have an itinerary, what they don't have post it are enough sails dates for that itinerary! Just one sail date in December which is ridiculous! Which it brings me to square one searching for another itinerary that fits my scheduler. The point is that we should be able to type in the search our specific dates for every itinerary they have instead than for us keeping scrolling until with a miracle we finally find one cruise that fit all our needs. This search system they got now, for some people it is really a time consuming!:(

It may be an unusual itinerary, thus only operates once per month. All the 7 days from Galveston are the same way, two of the itinerary options are each available once and another is available twice. You may have to search other ports for embark as they may have a ship sailing to your locales. Compare Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral.

  16. I agree with staying with the late dining unless your group has a lot of small children. There is a lot to do on board the ship as well as on port days - enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail together then enjoy a late dinner.

  17. When you order the package that includes both the cake and the decorations, they are both in the cabin when you board. there is no where on the order form to designate to get the cake delivered at another time. If you order the things separately, you get to choose when the cake will arrive and where. We had the vanilla cake with strawberries and it was delicious. My grandson loved that the cabin was decorated when he arrived.

  18. ...and if you're retired, then what? one more time:rolleyes:

I luckily live in a large apartment complex and don't put my actual apartment number. My daughter, with whom I often travel, puts the address of her dog walker who is a stay at home mom or my apartment building address. Any packages or anything else would have to go through the office as our building is locked anytime the office is closed.

  19. I always fly Southwest and have never been disappointed. If there is a problem, it will be fixed on the spot and they have generous, non-punitive policies when it has been necessary for me to change flights. They usually have a large number of flights to my locations so if I am not in a hurry, I choose to be bumped to a later flight and collect the offers of free flights in exchange. My adult children and I have made several trips on SW free flights from choosing to do this. I have heard a lot of Delta horror stories of them changing flights without letting anyone know that would seriously hamper their travel plans.
