  1. I don’t think you will be disappointed. All else equal I will almost always book a breakaway class ship, but if something tipped me towards Jade (ie price) I would sail it again. We went on Jade before dry dock and thought it was great so I don’t imagine we would be less satisfied post dry dock.

  2. Seems like when you cruise will be a lot more important than what you cruise on. Pick a week with lots of kids out of school and should be fine.

I prefer a large ship, but you didn’t really give any reasons why you prefer one. From what I’ve seen teenagers will find something to do and if there’s a hot tub that seems where they spend their days/evenings no matter how big the ships are.

  3. Mom2CrazyKids, it sounds like you've done your research. Yes, different societal norms -- not "bad," just different.

No disrespect, but some societal norms are BAD if it's not your society. It's ok to say that, it doesn't make you prejudiced, a xenophobe, racist, etc.

I have traveled all over the world including China (Beijing-Xian-Shanghai) and really enjoyed it, but there are a lot of things that would be offputting on a ship where you simply cannot get away. Only the OP really knows how they will react to what they have researched. I'd be ok with a cruise, but I don't lose my mind like some posters on CC do when something very minor goes wrong.

The reason I wouldn't cruise on Joy has little to do with the Chinese...I don't think the itineraries look great.

  4. This post is all over the place. Some valid complaints, but a lot that make 0 sense. Cruising to Bermuda because the seas are less rough than Alaska is bizarre and takes the cake though.

There’s a lot of belly aching on here about the drink package. You pay a whopping $100 for the perk and if you want a higher quality of liquor you pay a couple bucks. It is still far superior to what I’d pay for drinking on other boats like Royal or Carnival. People need to try to have some perspective on that item.

The spa? Avoid them like the plague, land or sea they are all about the upsell.

Bingo and deal or no deal on NCL is a scam. You go because it’s fun, the odds are the only thing worse than the slots on the boat.

The food? Yeah, you eat out 21x in a week you won’t love them all.

I think you had a couple bad experiences, but it seems like you’ve made a mountain of a couple items.

The biggest lesson here is don’t take cruise itinerary advice from a PCC that’s maybe been on a cruise on the Sky or something only. They seem to know less than most cruisers do.

  5. Sorry I ment Baltic. I'm just very upset right now.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but if your handle is really your occupation take a deep breath. Planning a trip like this is extremely easy in this day and age with the internet. I’ve traveled all over Europe and all of it is less stressful than SWA’s boarding system. [emoji6]

  6. The ONLY thing the Sky has going for it are the wings in Longboards.... and even then, you can't get them until after 5 (or so).

I’m not anti-Sky, I just like to maximize my vacation and four days during the week doesn’t do it.

  7. I hope they can figure out a way to offer Cuba on a 7-day itinerary from one of the Breakaway class or Epic ships. A 4 day cruise on Sky isn’t that appealing to me.

  8. I just cancelled my cruise from Barcelona due to the unrest (we were scheduled to leave tomorrow with 4 days in Barcelona before cruise) I’m afraid that since NCL hasn’t cancelled or changed ports my insurance won’t pay!! Airline gladly cancelled & refunded taxes, etc (we were using points). So why buy insurance?? What a bummer- been working on this trip since late February!

This seems overly cautious, but if you’re happy with decision more power to you I suppose.
