  1. NCL seem to be getting round the need to divert to Nynashamn by specifically going there rather than the City Centre.

It has become quite confusing, and I haven't looked at the itineraries for a while, but i believe that most of the itineraries are going there.

It is a goofy itinerary. Ncl offering itineraries to places like Berlin, Stockholm, I think I even saw Paris on another ship then docking hours away (due to obvious logistics of a cruise going hours inland lol) is just stupid.

  2. FWIW...that's pretty specific.

I wouldn't expect if I went to MDR every night asking for Mexican my results would be great for example. Your friend either needs to be open to more or a cruise probably isn't for them.

  3. Some of the advice on here is pretty bad. I generally book on my own unless as another poster said you are going very far from port. For example, we went to Lamanai ruins in Belize which involves a one hour bus ride and one hour boat (only way to ruins).

Generally, I find the private excursions to be far superior just as a casual observer. For example, we had a wonderful sailboat ride out to the wildlife sanctuary in St Thomas where the sea turtles are. We had a wonderful time snorkeling for honestly longer than I would have wanted (was exhausted ha). While we were in St Thomas something like 3 boats, including one of RC's giant bots, was there. We saw numerous giant power catamarans come out, people line up and get off, 15 minutes later they all get back on boat. How lame is that?

  4. Tunaman2011....... my exact thoughts. On a recent Escape Cruise I was meet by a huge group of people waiting on deck 13 waiting for an elevator. Each person had a huge suitcase and were all complaining that they couldn't get an elevator. Walk off suitcases should be limited to the size of an airplane carry on. Larger suitcases should be put out the night before.

If you can carry your bags who cares. If you can't then I agree, but people should have more sense. No amount of tags or systems can help stupid.

  5. These bathrooms are typically in busy areas because why else would you need public bathrooms. In my travel experience there are typically bathroom attendants. If there isn't simply ask someone for change, its Germany so will be a lot of English speakers and this will be no issue at all. Like all travels, keep an eye on your belongings when digging in wallets/pockets.

  6. "It depends" is the short answer. Right now with the no port fees/taxes for select sailing it was a smoking deal as we paid like $400 for an inside cabin on the Epic next thanksgiving. However, the itinerary choices are not always great, third person can be costly, etc.

I don't know that i would make a special 5+ hour trip for it, but it all DEPENDS on what your time is worth to you.

  7. They are great itineraries for some people obviously, as there is a market for it and they are selling very well. Experiences are in the eyes of the beholder.

They are the best itineraries available in that area, but seeing Japan for example from a cruise ship is a poor way to travel to Japan. I loved my travels in China, but you would never catch me on a boat full of Chinese. I'm dying to see a trip report soon of an American who found their way on the Joy. [emoji23]

Also, just my opinion for above posts but I don't see Chinese nationals flocking to the US to take Caribbean cruises and load up US boats. That's just not how they travel in my experience as a person who basically lives in airports/hotels and travels all over the world. Saying they are x times larger market than US doesn't mean the market that can afford to travel to US to cruise is x times larger.

  8. Last Sunday evening there were plenty of Studio cabins available on the Breakaway for January 2018. On Monday, they show that the entire category is sold out. Did they really sell out overnight or being held by Travel Agents? If being held, how long are they normally held before they are released?

  9. Try this with American Airlines, let us know how it goes.

You want more than they allow under current program, if you desire an upgraded stateroom then pay for it upfront. Part of why they have the upgrade program is it allows them to quickly/easily/efficiently book more expensive rooms that may otherwise go unused, it's not to allow people to make a lot of requests for special circumstances.

  10. I gotta say, I love the folks who want to change the system.

The DSC is a compulsory charge that lines charge because they can't just add to the fare. Doing so would make one cruise line appear less competitive on price. Also, it makes people feel like they don't have to tip.

Pay your DSC and if you want to tip people you interact with more then go for it.

  11. That will never happen. Part of the marketing/gimmick on that perk is to make it seem free even though a marginal charge is paid. Same with SDP. You'll never see them acknowledge in that sort of way there is a charge. Also, it would throw off the excursion and internet options with no equivalent bump on those.

Don't worry so much about an $80 charge to drink for free.

  12. I'd guess (and hope) they'd make it in the normal glass they usually use, then you can pour it into your own if you'd like. And if your own cup was big enough, you could probably order 2 at a time to really fill it up and save a second trip back to the bar. Now I'm starting to think if I should bring my Yeti in 2 weeks.....

Agree...making drink in your cup adds potential for contamination.
