  1. A calm day planned here. I took the children to school, then went to the oatcake shop to get our last oatcakes before we go away. The children are looking forward to tomorrow when they finish for the Easter break, my guess is that being teenagers they will spend most mornings in bed for the next 2 weeks unless my sister wakes them up when she goes round to take the dog for his walk.
  2. The price of glasses and sunglasses are horrendous now, not much change from £1000 each if you are having having various coatings such as anti-glare and anti-scratch and having ultra thin lenses because your eyes are really bad and you don't want ones that look like jam jar bottoms.
  3. My optician sends out text messages confirming the time and asking not to arrive more than 5 minutes before the appointment time, so I park on Tesco carpark because it's free and then I have a slow stroll past the empty shops. The good thing is that they keep to the appointment times give or take 5 minutes but it is a small practice with 1 full-time and one part-time optician. I first went 65 years ago and have seen the family who used to own it gradually die off and now it is still privately owned by the current full-time optician.
  4. I have been to the hairdresser this morning so my hair is now cut ready for our holiday. I then called in the big Tesco to get a few bits that we needed, that was a big mistake, I ended up buying things that weren't on my list because I don't know where anything is do ended up walking up and down all of the aisles so got tempted to buy other things.
  5. Good morning everyone. Thank you for all your good wishes. Another damp start to the day here but it's not actually raining at the moment. I am going out for lunch with a friend today so that is something to look forward to even though I already know what the conversation will be all about because she has a lot of long term health problems and loves to moan about NHS treatment but doesn't bother to follow their instructions and "forgets' to go to appointments. Have a great day everyone.
  6. Thank you everyone. I just hope that we don't get any more problems before we manage to get to Southampton on the return journey, the last few weeks have been really stressful and we both need a holiday now. I have to go and collect the kiddos from school in a few minutes. I had texts from them earlier one has a netball match and the other is staying behind to help a boy who has problems with maths. I thought that was what the teachers were for or failing that the parents but what do I know.
  7. I am back from the doctor and my ECG was clear, he has changed my medication and said that I can go on holiday but I will get an appointment to go to the hospital for more tests. I have called Staysure and updated them so I am all clear for our cruise next week. I now just need to decide which clothes I am going to need for the cruise and get packing.🤞
  8. Sky Princess is my favourite ship. We haven't looked at next year yet but could be tempted to look at your cruise. I love Strictly and have done 2 previous Strictly cruises. We have seen Brian Conley and his show was really funny so I wouldn't mind seeing him again but I probably wouldn't bother to go to Tony Hadley's show.
  9. Hope you have a lovely cruise too, we have never been on Arvia, I just feel that it may be a little too big, Sky Princess is the largest that we have been on and she is the one that we are going on this time too if the doctor gives me the all clear this afternoon.
  10. Where are you cruising to ? Hopefully we will be cruising next week to the Canaries.
  11. Another wet morning here for the school run. I have just been watching our resident blackbird and thrush, they spend a lot of time together in our garden but this morning the thrush picked up a worm hopped over to the blackbird and dropped it at his feet for him to pick up and eat.
  12. Not P&O green beans. How do they make them squeak ? The only squeak to come out of the kitchen should be Bubble and Squeak
  13. We have a bright sunny day, a bit cool but the washing dried on the line this morning for the first time this year. I feel like I have not stood still at all today, school run, doctors for blood test results, shopping, ironing, baking, afternoon pickup from school, cooking dinner.
  14. Looks lovely other than the the devil's invention aka baked beans. I wouldn't be able to eat anything if there were beans on the plate. One of DH's moans is that I refuse to have them in the house so he only gets to have them if we have breakfast out.
  15. Just back home after a leisurely 3 hour lunch with DH's sister and brother and their spouses. It was lovely to have the chance to catch up with what everyone and their children and grandchildren are doing. The younger sister didn't come because she doesn't think that we should be keeping in touch with her estranged husband.
  16. I struggled when I first retired because before retirement I belonged to the running section of company's athletics club, I am still member of the retired section but I'm not motivated enough to go there regularly so I just walk about 5 miles a day nearer to home.
  17. A bit like us, we usually just treat ourselves on Friday lunchtime when we go to The Blacklake Inn. I could easily look like a Teletubby.
  18. All these lovely food posts are making me jealous. We are having potatoes, carrots, asparagus, all steamed, and grilled pork steaks, no cakes or desserts. I have managed to lose 16 lbs since the beginning of February by going to Slimming world though I was told not to lose any more this morning because I am now 3 lbs below what they consider to be the minimum weight I should be for my height. We are going out for a family lunch tomorrow because DH's sister thinks that we should make more of an effort get together since I told her that my sisters and I go out for lunch once a month.
  19. I am sorry that that Sarah's parents are so cruel, especially at a time like this when families really need to support each other. Sarah is fortunate that she has you and Pauline to support her through this awful time. take care of Sarah and yourselves.
  20. Some people do have health issues that necessitate using their wheelchairs on someday but not others depending how they feel. I worked with a man who had MS and some days he could manage with a walking stick or crutches but other days he used a wheelchair, as the disease progressed he had to use the wheelchair more frequently.
  21. Looks delicious. We are out for our weekly lunch today. DH will be having his usual fish & chips but I like to decide when I see the menu even though it hasn't changed for years so I know what is on it
  22. I often wonder why we ladies include hairdresser, manicure, eyelashes and eyebrows on our precruise checklist but men just have hairdresser on their non-existent list 🤔
  23. We like the Glasshouse for lunch on sea days but are equally happy with the MDR. Having seen people in the past touching items such as bread with ther hands and then not taking the item I would miss a meal rather than eat in the buffet.
  24. A dry day here. I was not well last night with a migraine and slight chest pains. I called 111 who said that a doctor would call me back, a very nice lady doctor called back at 2:10 am by which time I had gone to sleep and the chest pain had gone so she suggested seeing my GP this morning. I had an appointment already arranged with the optician at 9am so had to arrange my GP appointment for 11am. I now know that although my prescription has not changed I have signs of a cataract in my right eye but it doesn't need treatment at the moment but I did decide to order new glasses, as I do ever year, but they aren't likely to be ready before we go on holiday. I then went to the surgery and saw the senior nurse practitioner who suspects an angina attack so I now have an appointment for an ECG followed by an appointment with the GP 25 minutes later to review my medication because although I had the same medication it was a different brand and for some people the brand can make a difference because of ingredients that are used in addition to the drug to build the actual tablets. I have had to call our travel insurance and pay a small amount to cover my "undiagnosed condition". I really do badly need our planned cruise for my birthday. I hope everyone else is having a better day.
