  1. I can't speak from experience, but the current deck plans have retail shops where you usually see bars on similar ships on the Promenade.

If you search around and look at some of the cruise daily's, there British Pub is still featured, it is called Wig and Gavel Pub.

  2. There used to be a Vintages on the Royal Promenade on deck 5, but I believe they put a retail venue in there when they Asianized the ship. Same with the Champagne Bar. Looks like Boleros is still there. I would not expect them to make major changes prior to the dry dock in May.

That is interesting, as I have heard the opposite. The dry dock, in addition to updating and adding some new features, will seek to "Americanize" the ship again, which means more bars/restaurants, and less shopping. While not announced, I have a feeling both Vintages and the Champagne bar, or some form of a wine bar and wine/cocktail lounge will be back in those locations.

  3. Does the Mariner still have a Concierge lounge? Some information I have found says as of this March the lounge gets turned into inside staterooms with no Concierge lounge but a new suite lounge added. If this is true, they are doing this change/work while running revenue cruises?

I would think they would do this work when dry docked in May?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Steve

As far as I know, the Concierge Lounge is not going anywhere.

  4. The ice rink is on the new deck plans, seems if they have the rink they will have a show. PLUS

Mariner Of The Seas deck plan changes 2018 refurbishment review

The ship’s scheduled for 2018 drydock refurbishment (May 8 - June 24, in Freeport Bahamas) will result in the following deck plan changes:

    • On Sports Deck 13, the RCI’s signature waterslides “Cyclone” and “Typhoon” (high-speed racing slides.) will be installed. Also on deck 13 will be added FlowRider (surfing simulator), Sky Pad (bungee trampoline with optional virtual reality headset) and laser tag ("Battle for Planet Z" / glow-in-the-dark gaming room in the Studio B complex). The new water park and the duo of waterslides (called "Perfect Storm") were first introduced on the ships Liberty of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas (Oasis-class).
    • On Spa Deck 12 (aft), the new “Slashaway Bay” kids aqua park will be added. This is a new-design interactive water play area with cannons and geysers. It will replace the Outdoor Youth Area (aka “back deck”).
    • On Deck 15, the "Skylight Chapel" (wedding room) will be replaced with "The Observatorium" (Escape Room by Puzzle Break). The Escape Room provides adventure game experiences (team building exercises) for a group of players who solve a series of puzzles by using clues, hints and group strategy. The team is given a set time limit to solve the puzzle (secret plot hidden within the room).
    • "The Golden Room" nightclub ((Deck 3 / lower level 1 of 2) will be replaced with staterooms, while the upper level (Deck 4) will be replaced with Izumi (Japanese restaurant at fee, with Teppanyaki table-side grills).
    • Photo Gallery was moved from Deck 4 to Deck 3. On Deck 4, replacing the Photo Gallery were added "Playmakers Sports Bar" and Arcade Room.
    • "Dragons Lair " nightclub ((Deck 3 / lower level 1 of 2) was replaced with staterooms, while the upper level (Deck 4) was replaced with Izumi (Japanese restaurant at fee, with Teppanyaki table-side grills).
    • Photo Gallery was moved from Deck 4 to Deck 3. On Deck 4, replacing the Photo Gallery were added "Playmakers Sports Bar" and Arcade Room.
    • (deck ?) Jamie's Italian Restaurant (Mediterranean cuisine specialty dining venue), The Bamboo Room (Polynesia-themed cocktail bar), Playmakers (sports bar / Arcade Games)
    • To the ship will be also added new staterooms. All existing staterooms will be renovated / updated.

Thank you for the detailed information. Do you know what will serve as the nightclub now that Dragon's Lair is gone?

  5. Type "Mariner of the Seas" into the search bar at http://www.images.google.com

I did, most are outside photos though. The cool thing about the way CC did photos of the other ships is that every bar, restaurant, shop and venue is photographed and put in a separate album. Hopefully when it comes back to NA they will take photos like they did for the other ships.

  6. For a number of years Mariner has not been in the North American market and the (fantastic) galleries done by CC are by a staff member onboard for a trip they are taking. When the Mariner returns to the US and gets a revitalization at dry dock I'd expect to see a comparable gallery on that ship.

They are fantastic, I agree. I hope you are right and they add a proper album when it returns to NA. In the meantime, does anyone have a link to a decent photo album of Mariner?

  7. Which RC ships have been exclusively in Asia for years?

I said abroad, not "exclusively in Asia". I would ask you to please not put words in my mouth, especially if they are inaccurate.

Aren't most photos user submitted? In that case, there might not be as many people posting photos.

If you click the links I posted, you will see that most of the photos are professionally done by CC (or whoever they contract to do it). There is a section for member photos too though. It appears that CC had someone go on and photograph each RCI ship (I think each) except of Mariner. I am just wondering why they left Mariner out, but did the others?

  8. While doing my research for our upcoming Mariner cruise, I have noticed that CC's selection of photos of Mariner is very limited, especially compared to other RCI ships. To give you an example, here is the collection of photos they have for Harmony, Navigator and Empress.

Now here is the one for Mariner.... https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/mariner-of-the-seas-274/

See the difference. Any idea why Mariner seems to be the only one they have not bothered to have a decent photo section for?
