  1. Two very beautiful beach side resorts have closed. One is Elbow Beach, the other is the Fairmont Southampton Princess which is supposed to have renovations done in the future. We had many lovely vacations in both properties and it makes us sad to know they are closed. There is a Hilton property , but I am not certain if it is open. There is also a St Regis property , which could be in the Castle Harbour area. Day passes may be available at these properties. No cabanas at Horshoe Bay beach . It is a public beach where there are loungers and umbrellas for rent. We visited Bermuda this past June. it was our 14 trip there since 1983. We think Covid has affected the resorts and the economy unfortunately. MJ.
  2. I have seen ads on TV lately about vests that dogs-maybe cats?- can wear for comfort from loud noise such as fireworks or thunder. I think that they are similar to weighted blankets people use to calm anxiety. Has anyone used these vests for their pets? MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  3. Wildra-While you are visiting the family in Ohio, I am posting my thanks for writing this review. It is always a pleasure to read about yours and W’s adventures! I totally agree with your last prayer giving thanks for luggage with wheels. I said to my DH on our last vacation, what a great mind it was to think of putting wheels on luggage. I remember those days, BW, before wheels. Schepping luggage was no joke! Looking forward to reading more when you get back online. Enjoy visiting and a happy 4th to you and W. MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  4. @bobmacliberty Not quite right -LOL! Step right up and GREET the Mets!😊 All in good fun! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  5. @TravelGirlinDallas Good for you that the formal wear is too roomy now! On to shopping….. Have you tried Macy’s or Nordstrom? I like the designer Adrianna Pappell. I have bought a gown and a cocktail dress with her label at Macy’s. I did see some pretty maxi dresses online at Talbots. Wearing a maxi dress with pretty sandals and jewelry is good look on a warm weather cruise. Enjoy shopping! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  6. My Dad , who grew up in Greenpoint Bklyn, was a Dodger fan. When the Mets came in the scene, he became a fan. I would often go to games with him at Shea which was a subway ride away. Later, my hubby and I would go to the games, driving in on the LIE to Shea and then Citi Field. I still know the words to the Mets song-but I won’t sing it for you here!🙄 MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  7. Reading about grandparents- My father’s father died of pneumonia when my Dad was 3. His mother died two years before my parents married. So, I only knew my grandmother, my mother’s mother. She and my grandfather had a farm on Eastern LI. He died suddenly of a heart attack , leaving my uncles to manage the farm. My grandmother passed away when I was 9. I used to love to visit the farm for holidays and in the Summer. When I was 5, my mother let me spend most of theSummers with my grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins. I had a wonderful time then, doing simple things like going to the beach, baking with my grandmother, reading under trees in the yard, doing errands with my aunts and playing ball, badminton and croquet with my cousins, going to the movies and sharing Sunday dinners with all of them. I was so fortunate to have that time in my childhood. Most of the family is gone now, but they are still with me in my memories and my heart. MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  8. @helen haywood Our pets have a place in our hearts and are loved members of our families. Wishing your Minnie a good recovery and healthy years ahead. MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  9. @mo&fran Wishing you good results from the treatment that is planned for you. Many here are sending you positive thoughts, prayers and good wishes. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  10. @HBE4 Reading posts here, it seems that TMJ is a common ailment where a person is going through a stressful situation. I no longer need the night guard as I have used other stress relieving solutions. I also remember chewing a lot of gum, which I no longer do. Give the night guard a try-it may get more comfortable as you use it. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️ PS Hoping the air quality doesn’t affect our part of LI. I am feeling better and plan to visit friends tomorrow. I just spoke with a friend in my golf group. I am not up to playing a round yet, but I hope the air quality doesn’t affect their game tomorrow. Hoping the air quality is good for you in your neck of the woods!
  11. @DaniDanielle When I read the first post about your daughter having jaw pain, I thought it might be TMJ. Then I read your follow-up post about it. I had TMJ during a stressful time after my Mom passed away in 2001. Apparently, I was clenching my jaw, causing the discomfort. Your daughter has my sympathy as the pain can be relentless and excruciating. My dentist fitted me for a mouthpiece that I would wear at night. I was also given Naproxen (Aleve). I found warm compresses to help also. It took a few months for the pain to go. I am hoping the dentist can help your daughter to get relief soon. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️ PS Kind of a funny story. I took the mouthpiece with me when my husband and I went to London later in that year. The night we returned home, I was looking for it to wear to go to sleep. Nowhere to be found. The next day, I called the London Hilton. Housekeeping found the mouthpiece in its’ carry case. The person at the hotel described it as “dentures without the teeth”. I knew right away it was the missing item. They had found the mouthpiece and mailed it to me. I was glad because it had cost a bit of money and I was reluctant to but another.
  12. @Luckynana Thank you for asking how I am feeling. Tested negative for Covid on Sunday! But, I would like to feel stronger. I have spoken with friends who have had it and they all say it takes some time to get to feeling 100%. I am doing some household chores and going for brief walks to get stamina. I have to say, that virus packs a punch! My DH’s ribs are improving. He can sleep in bed without pain. We are quite the pair! Friends have offered help if we need it. So far, I have asked one friend who lives on our street to do some grocery shopping. We are taking it one day at a time. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  13. @Sea Dog It was certainly not the news that you wanted, but at least there is something that can be done surgically to relieve your discomfort and give you an improved quality of life. Hoping the outcome of this knee replacement is a positive one for you. Re the wheelchair assist with SWA. We often see so many passengers using that service at our local airport on LI. The flights from there to FL destinations are called “miracle flights “ since so passengers are then able to walk off the flight once they reach FL. That being said-there are plenty of passengers who truly need the wheel chair service. I was one of them last Fall when I developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot while vacationing in FL. Walking through the Palm Beach International airport would have been a very painful experience. Wheel chair assist was very easy to arrange. We asked for assistance at the outside baggage check-in desk and I was soon whisked away through security to the gate for our flight. I did not show any documentation as to the need for a wheelchair. We did not have to arrange it prior to arriving at the airport. You may seriously consider such assist before you have knee surgery as it could make your travel more pleasant. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  14. @dani negreanu I was very pleased to read your news that you and DH will be on the Bella2 cruise! So many posters here will be happy to meet you! I’m not even on that cruise and I am smiling that you will be on it! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  15. IMHO -Surprising that there would be Pop Choir or a mob flash dance because of possible Covid transmission . Virus is still out there. I am recovering from a case of it after a cruise on the Celebrity Summit a few weeks ago. MJ
  16. @KarmaCruisers A note of advice- Instead of the Princess transfer coach, arrange for private transportation. Hotel pick up to the port-easy peasy. It may be costly, but factored into the vacation plan, it can be doable and so much easier. MJ
  17. Luckily, my aunt worked in the City in the 1950s into the 1960s .Maybe the trains were a bit more commuter friendly then? I remember the BMT had red vinyl seats. I used to like to take that train into the City with my aunt. I did like the color red! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  18. @George C Woodhaven- One of my HS best friends grew up in Woodhaven and an aunt had an apartment there as it was an easy commute on the BMT to her job at a law firm in the City. So, I am familiar with the area also. Did your Mom shop at Lewis of Woodhaven? That was quite a store , jammed packed with household goods etc. As a kid, I loved the carousel and pony rides in Forest Park. My father played golf on the course there. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  19. @BonTexasNY This list of stores brings to mind so many shopping trips I had with my Mom either to the City or Jamaica, Queens. Mays had an extensive Chubby Dept, so we were frequent shoppers there-for awhile. Altmans was a lovely store-very sad when it closed. After college, I worked at Lord &Taylor’s anchor store on 5th Ave in the mail order office. One of my jobs was to send faxes to all the branches over a phone line-it was 1974! I spoke with office reps along the Eastern seaboard every morning. Left that job to take my first teaching assignment. We also frequented A&S and Gimbels when we shopped at Roosevelt Field once I had my driver’s license. Do you have Dillard’s in Texas ? They have some stores in Florida and they seem to be similar to Macy’s. Take care MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  20. @George C I grew up in Forest Hills. Kew Gardens wasn’t far away. My father was a member of the Grand Jurors Association and served on a number of cases at the courthouse on Queens Blvd. Do you recall a place on the Blvd- Knish Knosh? Later on, my friends and I would frequent the Salty Dog on Metropolitan Ave in KG. Actually, my DH and I were talking just today about how we got together at the Salty Dog with two of my best friends and their husbands to let them know about our engagement-41 years ago. Good places, good times, good memories! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  21. @HBE4 My mother also enjoyed shopping at Alexander’s. Her store was on Queens Blvd in Rego Park. As a kid,I did not appreciate trying on clothes in the open concept ladies’ try-on room. There were no separate cubicles and no curtains! She also liked shopping at Gertz Dept Store on Jamaica Ave in Jamaica. That was a lovely store! The windows were always beautifully decorated for Christmas. There was an elevator run by a woman in a uniform with white gloves that would announce the different departments on each floor. They also had try-on rooms that had curtains! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  22. @dani negreanu I want to also let you know that I was glad to read your posting about your recent family vacation and see the photos of the beautiful place you all shared. But, I was saddened to read that your children and grandchildren will be moving away. Such a difficult decision for your son and his family to make and so very difficult for you and your husband to learn of their decision. I hope they find a comfortable life in the Netherlands and that your grandsons will flourish there. Their hearts will be with their parents and family in Israel and your hearts will be with them in their new home. Hoping that you and your husband will be able to plan some long visits with them in the Netherlands and that your son, daughter-in-law and children can return to Israel for some visits as well. Sending good thoughts to you, your husband and family.💐 MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  23. @Ozark_Kid John-I just read your post about you making homemade ice cream. Would you consider making garlic ice cream ?There is such a thing!😉 @h20skibumYikes! Your granddaughter is brave!😊 MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  24. Reading, reading reading all the posts here as DH and I recover. Slow go, but getting there. I would like to have more strength, but friends who have had Covid assure me that it takes awhile to feel 100%. Wishing all here happy days especially those who are/were celebrating milestone days. @Ozark_Kid John-I have read about the kindness coming your way recently. I can only think that the kindness you have shown others has found it way back to you and DW Sharon. @Momof3gurlz I hope that things are going well for you and your hubby since the “kids” have moved in with you while their house is under renovation. The work they have planned seems to be ambitious and time consuming. Easy to say, but try to go with the flow for now. Your house will return to its’ former self once they are back in their “new” home.’ @lenquixote66I read your poem and found it had an ethereal quality. I hope you continue to create poetry if it makes you feel happy. @Sea DogI will be interested to read about the bone marrow treatment proposed for your knee. My hubby has arthritic knees with bone on bone as he played football in HS and college. He has consulted with a few orthopedic surgeons, one being a doctor that cares for NYJets players. All agree that he is not a candidate for surgery as he does not have pain and continues to be able to comfortably walk. He walks everyday for 40 minutes. A suggestion of all the doctors was that he loose weight . About a year and a half ago, he began to follow a healthy eating plan and lost fifty + pounds which he maintains. He does not want surgery! Any alternative therapy would be interesting for him to learn about should he someday be a surgery candidate. As to MRIs, I agree they are not a pleasant experience. I had one this past April to diagnose a spinal issue. Luckily, my head was out of the tube. The tech asked what kind of music I wanted to listen to during the test. I requested Motown. Not sure what music he plugged into the headphones, but it was nothing I recognized- more like No town! I was so very glad when the test was over! Hoping you get some good answers. Wishing all here a good evening! MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
  25. @Silkroad Thank you for your kind words. We are recovering slowly. MJ🙋🏻‍♀️
