  1. I do not want to engage in any Covid debate here, but I have recently read something about the immune system and the ability of it to keep a person healthy. Alcohol consumption can negatively affect a personโ€™s immune system and the ability to ward off illnesses created by viruses. Just a heads up as we head into cold and flu season. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  2. @bobmacliberty You are a wise man to have your wife and daughter handle the wedding planning. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion about things as well. However, your daughter has ideas about their day,so best to go along. At least she is considering cake. Our niece and hubby who were married five years ago in October, served pie as the celebratory dessert. One of my goddaughters and hubby had a family party at her parentsโ€™ vacation home in Maine in September of 2021.They kept it to a small gathering due to Covid. The celebratory dessert was blueberry pie as a nod to the local area specialty. Many of the traditions are gone ,but new ones take their place. One that I especially liked at our nieceโ€™s wedding was a handwritten sign placed before the ceremony seating area that read - โ€œ Please choose a seat, not a side.โ€. Guests were not divided by the brideโ€™s or groomโ€™s side. Enjoy the days leading up to the big event ! Best wishes to your daughter and fiancรฉ ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  3. Helen- I am right there with you on that one ! I know that I am a light weight- two drinks and I am ready to ๐Ÿ˜ด. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  4. @BonTexasNY I was reading your post about your upcoming cataract surgery.I had mine done, one eye at a time in 2012. Recovery was good for both surgeries. I compared my โ€œnewโ€ vision to the scene in the Wizard of Oz when the film went from black and white to color. Everything looked so much sharper . The downside was that I could see the cobwebs that I had missed while house cleaning !๐Ÿ™„ Wishing you a successful outcome. MJ ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  5. Hello Everyone I have had sign in issues for days ! I was able to read posts, but could not comment or hit the โ€œbuttonsโ€ for a response. Taking this opportunity to send good wishes to all. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  6. Do not expect tuxes and gowns on โ€œformalโ€ night, especially on a four night cruise. Dress is similar to going to an upscale restaurant for dinner. Dress slacks or khaki pants with a long sleeve dress shirt and tie for hubby and black slacks for me with a pretty top is what we wore pre Covid. I am sure these outfits or something similar is what people are wearing on cruises now. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  7. Thank you for answering my question. I hope the hotel in Manhattan worked out favorably for you. Safe travels home to Canada. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  8. @laurieal Thank you for taking the time to write this review while on your vacation. I just read the part about your visit to Boston. I admire your tenacity to get around the city as it is not an easy one to navigate. Although you had a lot of effort in maneuvering to see the various sites, you did have a perfect sunny day to do so. I do have a question for you as you are traveling solo . If you chose not to answer the question, that is okay as it might be of a personal nature. I am not being nosy, just would like to understand how you handle maneuvering in the cabin. How are you able to transfer from the chair onto the bed without assistance ? Again, thank you for writing about the cruise and your adventures. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  9. Bon Voyage, Deb and Andy! I am a little late to this party as I just saw it mentioned on Daniโ€™s thread. Thank you for taking the time to share your cruise vacation with the readers here on CC. Hoping you enjoy the repositioning cruise. My hubby and I have done two on Princess out of NY. We find them relaxing and have enjoyed the sea days as well visiting various ports. Looking forward to your posts. Wishing you fair skies and calm seas ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  10. @1interpreterI understand about wanting to take formal clothes. So, in packing, other things have to be minimized. I understand it is a 4 day cruise. If it was me, I would pack for each of you 2-3 pairs of shorts,4 daytime tops,4 sets of underwear, a pair of black pants for you,a pair of kahki pants for hubby, 2 fancier tops/shirtsfor you and hubby, 2 sundresses for daughter, 1 bathing suit and 1 coverup. 1pair flip flops,1 pair dressy sandals for you and daughter,1 pair dress shoes for hubby. Wear sneakers on the plane. I would try to keep to a certain color palette- navy and white for example. That way ,you can mix/match outfits. As for makeup- ditch the eyeshadow - not really needed these days.IMHO. A pair of sunglasses are your friend. I take a mascara ,blush and lipstick. Travel size deodorant, shampoo, etc.as you have mentioned. Hair dryer is in the cabin. May not be the best, but make do. As far as tux rentals, I think that is long gone. Especially since Covid . No sharing of clothing and if they were dry cleaned after each renter, that is an expense and use of staff for the cruise line. So hubby needs to bring one,a suit or at least a sport jacket. His outfit will take up a lot of space. Just a thought. I would pay for an extra checked bag to alleviate the angst over getting a lot in one bag. Posters have mentioned the choice of airline. If it was me, I would keep the reservation and see what the Spirit airline experience would be for your family. In the future, I would consider Southwest. We have travelled satisfactorily many times with them over the years. We flew Spirit once, many years ago. Just sayinโ€™. Wishing you and your family a very enjoyable vacation. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  11. @EllieinNJ I donโ€™t mean to hijack mishumโ€™s thread, but I read that you are plannng to visit Bermuda in February and you mentioned it being cold there then. Mt DH and I have vacationed in Bermuda thirteen times since the early 1980โ€™s. A number of those visits were for New Years and also in February. We found the weather to be better- for us- then as the humidity was lower. We would wear light sweaters or jackets most of the time. But, one time on New Yearโ€™s Day,we were enjoying the beach at the Southampton Princess. One thing that is pleasant to do is take one of the ferries from the Dockyard to either Hamilton or St Georges. That way you can see the coast of Bermuda and the pretty homes along the waterfront. You could have lunch or a dink in either place and spend sometime to exploring or shopping.until you need to return to the ship. I hope you enjoy Bermuda ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  12. Happy early birthday,Graham! Wishing you a pleasant celebrating day on the 27th! ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠโญ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽˆ๐Ÿ˜€ Cheers ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  13. @FromSea2ShiningSea I was sad to read your news about testing positive. Good though that both your hubbyโ€™s and your symptoms are mild. The silver lining in the situation is that you will be able to rest and relax at the Hilton. It may help Merv the nerve. ๐Ÿคžand๐Ÿ™ that you will be able to go on the TA.Those journeys are relaxing as well, given the many sea days. Hoping you have a positive outcome and negative tests. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  14. @Luckynana Thank you for the kind thoughts ! ๐Ÿ™All goes well ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  15. @sushitex- Sorry that you experienced what my husband experienced. At least you were home in your bathroom. We were on a plane taxiing to the runway ! We are supposed to be flying Southwest again on Sunday morning. You can bet,he will be drinking a LOT of water, eating a good breakfast and trying to relax without an additional dose of anxiety medication! Although, today he is fussing about catching Covid on the flight despite being vaxxed to the max and wearing a mask until we reach our destination. All this fussing is taking away from the pleasure of getting away and seeing different scenery. I may just have to take one of his calm down pills myself !!! Hoping for a pleasant vacation- ๐Ÿ™„ MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  16. I have a question about booking cabins on RCCL and, since this is a friendly thread with many veteran cruisers, I thought I could ask the question here. I am curious to read that some couples book two cabins ,usually a balcony and an inside cabin. I do understand about snoring issues, the luxury of two bathrooms and more overall space when having two cabins. My DH and I have taken cruise vacations since 1987. Two separate cabins was never a consideration for us. But, I am thinking that there might be a financial benefit or points benefit in doing such. Are those the reasons to book two cabins? On other cruise lines, if a person books a cabin for one person, they are required to pay a single supplement. I think that supplement could be as much as 100% of the cruise fare. Does RCCL require such a supplement ? Just something that caught my attention. Looking forward to reading any responses from the good folks here. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  17. @FromSea2ShiningSea Thankyou for the lovely photos of Florence. I was fortunate to visit there during my college years with two friends one Summer. I always wanted to return there ,but it never happened. We toured the cathedral, saw David, shopped in the open air markets went to the Boboli (?) gardens and ate gelato. While we also visited Rome, I thought Florence was a more captivating city. We stayed in a guest house near the train station -as I recall. Our room had French doors that opened onto a small garden. A continental breakfast was served in a heavily decorated dining room. We loved it ! That trip was fifty years ago ! Your photos brought back some very pleasant memories. I have dealt with sciatica over the years. It can be very painful and unsettling. I am pleased for you that you could go on this vacation and you seem to be making it a good experience despite the discomfort. Please continue to post photos ! Molto bene! Grazie! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  18. @Sea DogCongratulations to you and Linda for your 25th anniversary ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  19. Pete, Thank you for the very interesting review and great photos ! As a fellow NYC native, now living on Long Island, I appreciate your candor about walking the streets of the City. My DH and I enjoyed many trips to Manhattan for visiting the museums, seeing a show or walking in Central Park. Unfortunately, our last visit was in 2019. Covid hampered our visits, but the state of our beloved City caused us to stay home also. What has happened to NYC ?๐Ÿ˜ข Wishing you good days as you cruise on the ferry ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  20. @HBE4 I am with you re: holidays. I like to enjoy the Fall and Thanksgiving before moving onto Christmas. Each season has itsโ€™ special pleasures. The first Christmas catalogue arrived in the mail today. I am thinking that I should start thinking about presents for our loved ones. Maybe after Halloween.... MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  21. Yes! I recognize the Pusserโ€™s Rum label and can picture the bottle now. That is the recipe we followed. The orange juice made the drink different from the Pina Colada. Reminds me of the good old Summertime parties on our deck ! Thank you ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  22. @Luckynana Very sorry to hear about your hubbyโ€™s surgery, hoping he is recuperating nicely. That must have been an anxious experience for you. Did you have any friends or family to be with you while Jim was hospitalized in Halifax ? Good that it worked out for the both of you.๐Ÿ’ MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  23. I agree about Pusserโ€™s rum being the rum for Painkillers. A long time ago, maybe 30?, I think there was a recipe attached to the Pusserโ€™s bottle. We served many of them during the Summers, calling the drinks Pusserโ€™s Painkillers. Now that DH has given up alcohol for health reasons ,our Summer go-to drink is an Arnold Palmer. MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
  24. Thank you for taking the time on your vacation to write this review and to post so many scenic photos of the places you and your wife visited. I especially enjoyed the photos of the Naโ€™Pali coast and that knockout resort in Kauai ! MJ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
