  1. @ger_77, Gerry, I very much appreciated your post yesterday as that is so difficult and our friends need our support. I know I felt “ carried “ by those with me when family and friends died. On a lighter note @aliaschiefBruce, I love seeing your pictures and hearing about your cruise! @RMLincoln Maureen, I am so glad to hear that one eye is doing so well. Great news! Regards to your DH.
  2. @summer slope, Dixie, sending prayers along to your friend Mike and his wife. It has to be difficult to be so ill and far from home.
  3. Good morning. We will have four days of rain starting today with temperatures in the forties. I am not a PB and J fan and ferrets should be in someone else’s home. I like the quote and have not been to the port. Good produce is mainly available at the large Asian market and also at the Farmers markets that start up soon. The two nearest grocery stores have awful produce. Perhaps a new manager is needed. Today I am doing laundry and grocery shopping. Dinner plans include shrimp with gnocchi which everyone will eat. We are a little frazzled here as Tana had a very tough night . She is sleeping now which is unusual but we were up and coughing/wheezing from two o’clock on. I have a call into the hospice nurse as the cough sounds different to me. I will crash later but coffee is a wonderful thing in the morning. Have a great day today.
  4. Hello all. I just finished reading the Daily for today . I drove back to NY today and stopped to see my brother in Ct. Traffic was not as bad except around here. It is great to see my son and family but also nice to be home.My dog is presently glued to me. I was so sorry to read about Gord and Ollie. @ger_77, I am sure both of them were glad to have you there. Sending my condolences and prayers to all. @ottahand7, my thoughts are with you today. @kazu, Jacqui, I am so glad Ivan will have a sitter ! The house was busy over the weekend but Tana did have an aide all day on Saturday. I am picking up pizza for dinner.
  5. Happy Easter to all who celebrate. I will celebrate Mr Chavez and fondly remember chemistry classes and Bunsen burners. The recipe looks great . Yesterday we watched my DGS play lacrosse in chilly weather. I was grateful for my big coat, hat and hood. It eventually warmed up to 50 much later in the day. My kitchen jobs were making deviled eggs and scalloped potatoes. DS is making ham and asparagus. DDIL is making a roasted beet salad. It all smells great and we eat at noon. Sending best wishes for the day to all of you.
  6. Good afternoon. I made it to New Hampshire safely and the traffic was oddly minimal. Even in Connecticut. My handsome granddog was happy to see me and get outside. @Seasick Sailor, Joy, I hope poor Oliver is ok. Those things are big. Sorry to hear of more friends who are very ill. @ger_77,Gerry, I was so sorry to hear about the hospitalization of your friend. I am sure his wife was glad to have you there.
  7. @luvteaching, Karen, I am amazed that you only had a few tears to mark this “first”. I am glad you will have your family for dinner on Sunday. It was the six month mark for me a week ago.
  8. @ger_77, sending prayers for you and Maurice. Enjoy the family visit as well.
  9. Good morning. It will rain on and off today and get up to 50 again. My DS says the snow is almost gone in his area and it looks like temps will be similar to what we have here. @kazu, Jacqui, I was sorry to read about having to find new arrangements for Ivan. I hope you are able to line someone else up. And those storms sound hideous. @summer slope, Dixie, I thought of you as I got out of bed this morning. I am so glad nothing was broken but an accident like that causes a lot of soreness and pain. @Seasick Sailor, Joy, I nearly inhaled my coffee laughing at the chickens in the hot tub. I hope Allen is feeling better today. I have not been to the port, like the recipe and quote. Take care today everyone.
  10. I am sorry that you got hurt and hope that it feels ok tomorrow. Was your husband hurt as well?
  11. As I often travel only in my dreams lately, I too looked up where we were and we were in Portland . At least my addled brain recognized the quay from the pictures. Sorry for the confusion. I did enjoy the cream tea.
  12. Good morning. It is cloudy with rain coming later and a high of 50. My handwriting has been a scribble for a long time and I will celebrate the Red Cross. DD DH and I did as Graham @grapau27 did and we took a shuttle to Weymouth. Thank you Graham and Sandi. @StLouisCruisers for the pictures. We had cream tea overlooking the pretty quayside. Nice memories. I am traveling to New Hampshire on Friday to visit DS and family for Easter. I had a good laugh as my DDIL told me that chocolate bunnies were welcome gifts for my teenaged grandchildren. I was informed by the teenager who lives here that chocolate is something a person is never too old for. I guess I better get to the store for bunnies today. Have a great day today.
  13. @AncientWanderer, Maxine, I am so sorry to hear about DGD’s Scarlet Fever. I hope she feels better soon. I also hope the cardiology visit for DH went well. @ger_77, Gerry, The blankets are so nice, thanks for the picture! @Seasick Sailor, Joy, I hope Allen starts feeling better soon. The two of you certainly had a hard week.
  14. We woke up to the awful news about the Baltimore bridge and it was compounded by news of the death on duty of a young NYC policeman. The video of the bridge collapsing is horrific. Diabetes takes a huge toll on the body and is difficult to control. Epilepsy awareness is also important. My BFF had polio as a child and has struggled with increased weakness from post polio syndrome.I was a few years younger and got the vaccine. She needs a brace to walk due to a foot drop and has very limited shoulder strength and movement. Take care today everyone.
  15. @cat shepard, As always, thank you for thinking of us. I hope your sister can enjoy her birthday at home and that she is able to progress well. Tana appreciated your perspective and told me I have been unduly influenced by my experience with Lou’s illness! That is me, told. Ha!
  16. Good morning. It is already 34 and going up to 50 later. The sun is in and out.It is hard to believe that so many years have passed since John and Yoko went to their bed for peace. Hooray for Greece. I do not agree with Scott Hamilton. I have not been to Cobh. The recipe sounds interesting. @JazzyV, Vanessa, I am so glad your surgery will be done with the newer technique and devices. I am hoping that it gives you permanent relief from the pain that you are enduring. @dfish, Debbie, I sure hope today is better. i read your description of the day to Tana and she reminded me that she and her sister were similarly distressed trying to cope with a new living situation. They staged many revolts that Lou and I dealt with the best we could! It is not that I had forgotten but time diminishes memory. I also hope no one else gets sick. Yesterday I made quiches for dinner that were home runs. I tried the broccoli and cheddar quiche and it was delicious. Thank you Debbie! The second quiche was made with leeks and mushrooms and I have a few slices left for our lunch. We are debating between bean and cheese enchiladas or vegetarian chili. Tana was able to take a few steps with her walker and oxygen yesterday. I tried not to hover as she and her son negotiated their way to the kitchen. She was exhausted but pleased with her efforts. Have a great day everyone!
  17. @grapau27, Graham, thank you so much. You are a very kind person and it is appreciated.
  18. @Haljo1935, Elizabeth, I can relate to your sadness today. My oldest brother has been gone fifteen years and his birthday was St Patrick’s Day. There were tears with my remaining brother and my DSIL, his wife . We miss him everyday. Sending hugs your way.
  19. Good morning. It was a beautiful sunrise after a crazy rain all day yesterday. We did get water in the basement but so far the sump pump is getting rid of it. A lot of flooded roads here as well with people requiring rescue after driving through….I do not understand why they think their cars are amphibious vehicles. Thanks @kazu for reminding us about Father Romero in El Salvador. i will celebrate achievers and I have not been to the port. Yesterday I made the chicken, broccoli and mush room dish and it was well received. The vegetarians enjoyed their broccoli and mushroom that I made separately. We had the teenager’s girlfriend for dinner also and enjoyed her company. They took the dogs out for the last walk of the day for us which was appreciated. Enjoy the day everyone.
  20. Good morning. It is absolutely pouring and we hope the roof and gutter repairs hold with no leaking or flooding. The recipe sounds good to me and I have not been to Madagascar.Mrs Roosevelt was a very wise woman. @seagarsmoker, a very Happy Birthday to you! Bon Voyage to @lazey1 and @GTVCRUISER! Two cuddly kitties
  21. I am so sorry to read of the cancer diagnosis of the Princess of Wales. I thought it terrible how people hounded her. I agree with Brenda, cancer is hard enough to deal with without adding stress from outside. The news of the ship explosion and the death of two crew members is so sad as well. Take care everyone.
  22. Good morning. It is cold here with lots of rain heading our way by tomorrow. I guess I better get out and about today. My head still feels young but the body has different ideas. Daffodils have been spotted here over the last week but they will have to deal with the cold temps now. Goofing off sounds nice but needs a plan…which defeats the purpose, right? I have not been to Jamaica. The cake looks mighty fine to me but someone else should make it as my baking skills are not the best. Yesterday I took my BFF to see her sister in another town. It was so nice to see the sisters reunited. They had both had health issues and no longer drive and hadn’t seen each other since last summer. I was glad that I could bring them together and we planned another visit for mid April. I was so sorry to read about our Dailyites that are going through such painful situations. Sending hugs and prayers to all, @kazu, @Nickelpenny, and @JazzyV as well as @Cruzin Terri. It takes so much energy to manage when the pain is exacerbated. Enjoy the day today.
  23. @ger_77, Gerry, The prior bed broke while we had it flat when transferring. Tana is unable to lie flat and sleeps with the head of the bed up about 45 degrees. We collected every pillow in the house to manage that night. The new bed works perfectly ,thanks! I think of you and Maurice often and hope things are going well while you await treatment.
  24. Good morning.it is cloudy and cool at 37 degrees to start. Rain is coming later and it will get to 50. I am an Aquarius and just looked up my motto. Hmmm. We have a dog in the neighborhood who needs to wear a yellow harness. I feel his anxiety a block away as he barks hysterically at everything. The recipe would be popular here. Thanks to Mr. Volta. Have a great day everyone.
  25. Good morning. The cold has returned for the first day of spring and will remain for a few days. We have quite a few nurses in the extended family and I celebrate them all.The recipe sounds great but would be made with pasta here. It is a tough crowd at times! I find the quote funny. I have not been to the port. I will never understand Isolationism and not ratifying the League of Nations covenant. @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, I was so happy to read that your DGD is feeling better. Also, the carrot/Easter tree is beautiful. We should send Debbie a small copy of it. I find myself laughing as I chop up carrots for soups and stews these days. Thanks for the laughs. @Haljo1935, Elizabeth, I have been in your situation and it is very difficult. I could no longer do my very physical job and held out as long as I could. It was hell getting specialists and PCP’s to fill out the disability paperwork . I was not able to wait for Social security payments by age as DD DH had already been forced to retire himself. The plus side of all of the angst was that I was able to improve in some areas and continue to do fairly well today.I was grateful to be able to do the work I loved for as long as I did but it is rough on the body. Sending hugs your way as it sounds like there is an awful lot going on medically for you. Enjoy the day today everyone!
