  1. Good morning. It will be forty later with beautiful sunshine. One of the woodland creatures from the large park next door must have bothered the skunk who often visits the neighborhood. I could smell it with the window closed! We were in the port with DD and DSIL on the best Hawaii cruise ever quite a few years ago. We went whale watching on a catamaran and then walked through the village. I remember the banyan tree well. Thanks to Sandi for the pictures @StLouisCruisers. @USN59-79, Bon Voyage to you both. It sounds like a wonderful cruise. @RMLincoln, Maureen, I was so touched by your reunion with your brother and his wife. I am sorry that she is so ill. Sending prayers for all . @grapau27, Graham, thinking of you and Pauline today and sending my prayers your way. I loved the picture with your Dad and Sarah. The recipe sounds interesting.I will wait for instructions. I am with Roy @rafinmd, I don’t quite understand the quote. I have been clearing out bookcases and closets( very slowly) for the last several month. My, I have a lot of “stuff “! Have a good day everyone.
  2. @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, I am so sorry that Bob has had these problems. It is so hard on everyone. My last ten years in the workforce were spent at a nursing home/ rehab. It was always painful to hear the families discuss their difficulties managing their loved ones when they were agitated and violent. Sending prayers their way and wishing you the best.
  3. Good morning. It is chilly but sunny here and will get to 38 later. I will pass on the kale, have not been to the port and thank Mr Edison for his invention. It was nice to see that the Hawaii cruisers got home safely. I remember that we stayed in San Diego an extra day after getting off the ship and it helped a little in acclimating to the time changes and jet lag. Tonight I am making baked ziti for dinner. We had a difficult weekend but everyone pitched in to help which made it doable. I am so grateful for the aide we have during the week. Today. I will head out to the grocery store. Our schools have this week off so the teenager is coming with me. He has more ideas about things he wants to learn to make and I enjoy teaching him. Take care today.
  4. @JazzyV, Thank you for including Tana on the care list. I am hoping that her latest infection is taken care of so she can be removed from the acute list. The latest bump in the road has left her quite weak. We continue to lurch along here. Thank you so much for all you do for us.
  5. @cat shepard,Ann, Bon Voyage! and @Nickelpenny Bon Voyage to you!
  6. If you ever get a chance to taste them in season they are beyond delicious!
  7. Good morning and Happy Valentine’s Day. It is pretty cold here and there are icy patches to watch out for on the sidewalks. The dogs get so excited and happy about the snow. It is fun to watch them bounce around and jump into the tall piles at the ends of the driveway. I like the quote and enjoy greatly the way books transport a person to other situations and locations. Last night I finished “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder” by David Grann. I think Tina @0106 had told us about it. It was an incredible book that I could not put down. @superoma, Happy Birthday to your twins! @Suslor, Happy Birthday to Lorenzo! I am slowly getting back into cooking mode after a week of just winging it every night. I feel a lot better when things are organized and when I can get some of the prep done earlier in the day. Tonight we will have chicken cacciatore and baked shells for the vegetarians. I suspect the teenager will be with his girlfriend tonight. Have a great day everyone and stay safe.
  8. Good morning. The snow, although quite beautiful, is coming down like crazy. The trees look incredible but of course it is very slippery out there. I have bacon and could make pancakes later. I would like the meal of the day but don’t have the ambition to make it. I agree with Gerry @ger_77 about Desperation day. That is really sad. I have not been to the port and hope that in this house at least it is always love day for all. We all slept better last night for the first night in what feels like forever. I am hoping for a good day today and wish the same for all of you.
  9. @Quartzsite Cruiser, Lenda. Thank you. It is appreciated and I know you are very aware of the ups and downs encountered along the way.
  10. Good morning. Our weather people are all excited today since the report shows some snow for our area tonight and tomorrow. It is cloudy and 35 going up to 40. I will celebrate all three days, like the quote and the recipe but have not been to the port. @MISTER 67, a very Happy Birthday to you! @Mr. Boston, safe travels to both of you today. I am glad you were able to change flights. @cat shepard, Thank you so much for your kindness. Some days are harder than others but when I read your words I do feel better. Enjoy the day everyone!
  11. @ger_77, Gerry, I was so sorry to read about your relative and the husband of your friend. My condolences to you and their families. i do understand mulling things over in the middle of the night and hope you can catch up on sleep later. Enjoy your company today!
  12. Good morning. It is 43 going up to 50 today and cloudy. The weather people are excited about an approaching storm for tomorrow night. It will be the infamous mixed precipitation which to me is worse than straight snow because of the ice. Bon Voyage to @quilty964! We have a family member who is autistic and it has been a struggle for him to manage school and life away from his parents. At least in our state there are a fair amount of services available to assist. I am not sure what to make for dinner tonight but I am thinking of making it a buffet so those who want to watch football will be happy. I watch the Puppy Bowl and sort of ignore the rest. I did enjoy the year The Rolling Stones played at halftime though! Have a good and enjoyable day today
  13. @lazey1, Jane, I am sorry to hear about potential open heart surgery but do hope it can be scheduled soon. It has to be difficult when endurance is so limited.
  14. Happy Birthday to Elizabeth. @Haljo1935! It will be sixty today but the following days may contain some snow…or only rain. My father had the NYT delivered to his office and would bring it home at night. The three of us divided up the sections and would trade back and forth. Sundays were better as the really fat paper was delivered to our home and we could try the crossword together. My remaining sibling still calls me on Sundays looking for clues to the puzzle. We try to finish it by noon for that reason. Nice memories. I started cooking the Thanksgiving dinner in my thirties for my extended family. The first year I left out the green bean casserole because I don’t like it. I had twenty people to dinner and I think everyone of them asked where the green beans were. I told them to make their own and bring it next time as I would not make it. They did. Last night we had no help and on the weekends we don’t have an aide. DD and DSIL are helping Tana while I take a rest today. I plan on getting out in the nice weather with the dogs in a little while.Tana seems a little better today but the coughing is ongoing. @marshhawk, I hope someone sees you today, please. @ger_77, I am glad at least part of the assessment has been done. the burgers sound very tasty.
  15. @StLouisCruisers,Sandi, I am glad you will travel to see Morgan. I hope she is able to find a place where she will feel safer. It is so nice of the two of you to help her any way you can.
  16. @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, I can personally vouch for EMDR therapy as @TiogaCruiser mentioned. It was extremely helpful after I had been in a situation similar to your DGD. There are a lot more people doing it nowadays and it was pricey. Worth every penny as the anxiety and stress was hard to manage. Sending prayers and hugs to all of you.
  17. Good morning. It is already 44 and going up to the low fifties. I fear for those biking around here . It is hard enough to be a pedestrian.I like my slow cooker and it doesn’t mind being called a crack pot in this house. Bagels and lox are a favorite here. We cut the cable TV part of the cord and saved a small fortune over the last few years. We were in St Peter Port Guernsey on a British Isles cruise. It was a beautiful day with bouncy tendering. I think I may have one picture that survived my prior PC fail. I slept last night and feel so much more human. Things are about the same for Tana. She started an antibiotic which of course has its own set of side effects. The fever did not return last night (hooray) and I have all fingers and toes crossed that this latest infection can improve. The Beatles on Ed Sullivan! I still remember the excitement at the time. Have a good day today.
  18. Good morning. It is sunny and going up to the high forties later. We finally got some help last night . I felt as if I had been awake for years by then but I am sure I slept a little. @JazzyV, Vanessa, I think you are amazing. I am so sorry your pain is so extensive and that you have to wait two more weeks for treatment. I don’t know how you get by on so little sleep. Tana’s fever was less during the day yesterday but returned at night. The nurse is coming later to assess. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. This latest setback has been challenging. The quote is interesting and I would have enjoyed the presentation Mr Newton gave. Laughing has not increased my bank account but has benefitted my life greatly. The thing I miss the most these days is the ability of my DD DH to make me laugh. Goulash would be welcome here if someone would be so kind as to make it. @Lady Hudson, Bon Voyage!
  19. Thank you. I should be more careful when posting while sleep deprived.
  20. Good morning. Why would anyone celebrate lame ducks? I think I am just cranky from lack of sleep.i would try the second recipe but not today. I have always wondered how something as awful as genital mutilation began. It aches my head to think about. We were unable to get help last night so it was another long night. I am hoping there is another woman available tonight. I worry about the cost and then I face reality and accept it. @ger_77, I was so glad to read that the cancellation occurred and your DH will be seen Friday. It is important to look spiffy too! @marshhawk, I continue to worry about the two of you. Please understand that I am taking care of a very sick woman who is sicker with the addition of this latest problem. I wish you had more responsive doctors down there to help. I don’t know how you keep functioning. Thanks to everyone for the Daily
  21. @Cruzin Terri, I am so sorry about you fall but hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip. People can be very kind on the ship . I hope you feel better tomorrow.
  22. Thanks so much for the kind good wishes for Tana and myself. It is appreciated. There is a possibility that one of the angels who helped with my DD DH will be able to come by tonight and tomorrow. I hope I don’t miss anyone but thanks to Graham, Sandi, Lenda, Jacqui, Ann, Vanessa, and Gerry. There are some days that are harder than others ,right?
