  1. @luvteaching, Karen, I have always admired your ability to handle so much and keep yourself positive. I envy your baking skills and imagine how much your cookies are appreciated! Thank you for being such a good example of putting one foot ahead of the other. Terry
  2. Well, it was a bit of a procedure today but our wonderful next door neighbor helped a lot. The medical equipment company came to switch the beds and sent one man to do it. DSIL and our neighbor John helped disassemble the broken bed and put the new one together. He even transferred Tana back to bed. The production company had removed all their lighting and equipment from the two homes where they had been filming last week so we didn’t have any issues today. “Law and Order” is filming in one of the city parks most of the week if we want to watch. @bennybear, prayers for your DH and I hope everything goes well today.
  3. Thank you Ann @cat shepard, and I send my prayers right back at you. I hope things go smoothly for all this week.
  4. Good morning. It will be a little cooler here but we still have sunshine. It will get up to almost 50 later. I am wondering about Act Happy Day. Hmmmm. I have had some interesting conversations with myself lately. Around here we all, say” I was taking to the dogs/cats”. I have not been to the port and would love a tasty pot roast. @RMLincoln, Maureen, I was happy to read that you met another couple to have dinner with. I think it takes a while with any new location. @kazu, Jacqui, How are you feeling lately? I would imagine all the winter cleanup is hard to manage with pain. Today we are awaiting the delivery of a replacement hospital bed for Tana. Of course the present one stopped working late Saturday night in a terrible position. We used every extra pillow in both houses to keep the head elevated properly. Oh my. Enjoy the day today everyone and thanks to all for the Daily.
  5. So much activity this day! @irishjim,so glad you posted. Happy 63rd Anniversary! @cruising sister,Thanks for the beautiful picture of Murphy @Haljo1935, I switched to another pet type company that starts with a C and they carry the heavy bags up the steps. I drag it into the house which is easier than the car thing. Sorry so much went wrong. @marshhawk, thank you for telling us how you do it. I admire your spirit. @dfish. I know I have mentioned this before but those who help when we are young are never forgotten. My brother and I only two weeks ago at ages 70 and 75 were wet eyed remembering my aunt and grandmother. Sending hugs.
  6. Bon Voyage to @RedneckBob, @Suslor and @Crazy For Cats! @Nickelpenny, Pennie, congratulations on your huge winnings and free cruise! Today the St Patrick’s Day parade is in the city. My neighborhood has a large Irish population and we have many Irish flags out on both houses and businesses. I will make a nice Irish stew for tomorrow as there are no corned beef and cabbage fans here. I noticed that all types of potatoes were on sale in the grocery store yesterday, We are on our own this weekend as the expected assistance was not available. Tana is holding her own but finds it very difficult to walk more than a few steps due to her oxygen needs. She keeps trying everyday although it is frustrating for all. Four years of the Daily is a major celebration! Thank you to everyone who makes this such a great place to visit every day.
  7. Good morning. It will be 70 later today with clouds coming back. I will celebrate scientists, questions and those very smart people. I would love to see Lerwick in person, thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the pictures. The recipe sounds interesting. Happy Birthday to Brenda @bennybear! Also to @Mr Boston for DM and @StLouisCruisers for DB Filming continued last night until about 11. The highlight was a verbal fight between the lead actor Amanda Sayfried and her less than ideal ex husband. Our dogs joined in as take after shouted take was done. The other dogs on the street added their two cents. I felt like a peeping Tom watching thru the front window but I couldn’t resist… Enjoy the day today.
  8. Good morning. It will go up to perhaps 70 today and it is sunny with lovely blue skies.I will salute all the days . The historical days are interesting and I have not been to the port. Bran muffins are tasty but I am not much of a baker. The film production company was here at 5 am and they have a sign up saying that there is no parking until after 11 pm. My across the street neighbors in houses adjacent to the filming house have lights and other equipment set up in their driveways. The dogs have decided that these folks are ok and they stopped barking, finally. It has been fun for all of us to watch this process unfold. @cat shepard., Ann, I hope the move goes well. We had to move my mother in law from a similar place years ago and were so relieved when she was properly cared for. I hope your sister is feeling better. Take care today everyone.
  9. @grapau27, Graham, please wish Pauline a very Happy Birthday.
  10. @marshhawk, Annie, I have been thinking of you and Chuck often but today my heart broke for the two of you. My DD DH also did not want to eat and the last month was particularly fraught. Honestly, I wish I had not kept after the poor guy to eat when he just couldn’t. I am not saying the situation is the same but I finally learned to be more relaxed about it. It is not easy taking care of our men .
  11. Good morning. Equal pay has a way to go towards improvement. The Girl Scouts should be celebrated and it is too early to think about the quote. I have been Edinburgh but not the port and I would love a pot of pinto beans for dinner. I heard big trucks arriving earlier today. It is such a narrow street . The street parking is now blocked off with cones. Fortunately we can fit all of the cars in our driveway. I will be on foot today for errands and I enjoy that. I can walk to the grocery store, drug store, hairdresser and even the eye doctor! @Cruzin Terri, I hope your Rheumatology appointment goes well and that your friend is doing well after surgery. @aliaschief, Thanks for the great pictures. My niece sent a picture of Camilla cooking with her Dad to cheer me up. She is a really happy child and does everything with gusto.
  12. @Nickelpenny, I am so sorry to hear about Martina. The memorial was a nice thing for the cat sitter to do. It has to be hard to get news like this when one is far from home.
  13. @Quartzsite Cruiser Linda, a very Happy Birthday! @Overhead Fred, Happy Birthday to Mitzi
  14. @cat shepard, I am glad to hear that your great nephew is staying with you. Our young man will turn 16 in September and has his eyes on my ancient Subaru. He has asked my DSIL to be his driving instructor. He is a pleasure to be with and has a big heart just like his mom. @JazzyV, We did have extra help over the weekend but will probably forgo the extra expense. Thanks for asking.
  15. Good morning. It is very windy and felt cold to me when I went out with the doggies. 311 around here is like dialing in to the abyss. I am sure we are all very aware of COVID . I will cheer debunking day. I would love to go to Los Angeles and will enjoy pictures. Lamb stew sounds interesting . @marshhawk, Annie, I was reading yesterdays daily late last night and burst out laughing! I think only the home owners get financial compensation and there is a bit of resentment on the two streets. The other home being filmed looks like a triple decker that has been turned into apartments. Last week a masonry company came and replaced the stone work in front of the house across the street and I doubt the home owners paid for that. Thank you for the nice thought though! I am waiting for Tana’s aide to arrive and then I will hit the grocery stores. Dinner plans are not made yet. Have a great day today everyone.
  16. @dfish, A very Happy Birthday for Sue! My DS and family have started to play Farkle after I suggested it and I hope to play when I see them for Easter. My DGS is quite competitive and loves the game.
  17. @Seasick SailorJoy, I am sorry to hear that Allen’s lab results were worrying and hope the doc is in touch soon. I am glad the neck pain has lessened.
  18. Good morning. The sun is out and it is a bit windy, going to 43 or so. We changed the alarm batteries in the fall and there are only a few clocks here. I have not been to Cairo except in my dreams. Thanks for the pictures so far Sandi and Lenda. I will make the soup soon as I am sure half the group will like it. Thank you Debbie! We spoke to the production company team filming on our street this week as I think they need to know we have a hospice patient here and others need access. I was only a little reassured but will reiterate on Wednesday the need for access in general. The TV series is called “Long Bright River” and is based on a book. Our neighborhood is sort of old with most houses built before the Depression. I took a picture yesterday of the house to be filmed.
  19. It is a chilly start to the day and we might get some snow flurries.I guess the gloves and hat will stay out for a little bit longer. One of my cousins has traced our Swedish ancestors to the 1300’s. My father tried to research the Irish relatives but only was able to trace a few generations as the record keeping was not as good. It was interesting to find out more about family. I have not been to the port and will celebrate Mr Vespucci. The recipe sounds tasty. @dfish, Debbie, I made the beef and barley soup with the pesto and those who eat meat were quite complementary, thank you once again for a winner. We usually put things to a vote to decide if it should reappear on the menu and this was a keeper! @StLouisCruisers, Sandi, thank you for letting us know about Sarah’s dad. @grapau27, Sending all of you prayers and condolences during this difficult time. @Crazy For Cats, Jake, I am glad you are able to get away after the stressful work week. Enjoy your cruise next week. We found out yesterday that the house across the street is being utilized for filming a TV series. It will take place in the late afternoon and evening and our doggies will be barking their heads off. They know all of the people on our end of the street and even recognize their cars! The filming company has arranged for people to park a few blocks away as they will be filling the street with cars of the appropriate vintage. This is usually a quiet street. Take care out there everyone.
  20. Good morning. It is 37 and heading up to 50 later. I see blue patches in the sky! I will celebrate International Women’s Day and have not been to the Great Barrier Reef. The recipe sounds interesting. @cat shepard, Ann, I was so happy to see that your sister is improving. I hope the rehab facility works out. Is it far away from where you live? @aliaschief, Enjoy your 34 sea days! It will be interesting to have so few on the ship with you. @JazzyV, Sorry about your cold and not being able to go to the airport to get your friends. I am glad to read that your pain is much less and that you are sleeping more. We are managing here and looking forward to warmer weather. Some nights there is less sleep all around and last night was one of them. I am planning to make baked ziti tonight as requested by our teenager. His girlfriend is coming for dinner and then someone will drive them up to the movie theater. Wow. I remember doing that not so long ago….The teenager has his eye on my ancient Subaru when he gets his license. I am willing to share occasionally but still need it myself!
  21. @sailingdutchy, Tony and Martha, a very Happy 55th Anniversary!
  22. Good morning. I am going to try the first recipe today or tomorrow, thank you Debbie @dfish. We were in Hilo on the all time best cruise to Hawaii on the Veendam . We went to see the mud pots and volcanoes in the park. My legal name of Theresa is never used if I can help it but it means to harvest and restore. Hmmm… I was always fascinated by the periodic table . Yes, there is a nerd factor here. I salute all veterans including my DB and nephew. Thank you to Jacqui @kazu and Karen @luvteaching for your perspectives. I have many teary days for no apparent “reason” and find myself going over various situations in my head. I hope I did all I could at the time and so appreciate your strong support. It is a process I guess. I am glad to see that Sam rebounded. Sorry about the sore thumb, Debbie. I hope @catmando and @marshhawk are feeling ok today. Take care everyone
  23. @cat shepard, DD and I realized early on in Lou’s illness that he really was way too sick and could not safely advocate for himself. He was a retired social worker and was very upset about this. We also found that vital meds were not given and had to watch things carefully. Today I think we are still processing the experience nowadays as it was incredibly stressful. However, I keep reminding myself that we all did the best we could under extraordinary circumstances and I am sure you are doing that as well. It is a fine line to walk between getting things done for the patient and irritating the staff! Sending many hugs to all of you!
  24. @Heartgrove, Jack, I am so sorry to read of Sam’s condition. It is so difficult to say goodbye to them and his time with you was so short. @ottahand7, Nancy, I meant to mention earlier that I am glad the surgery went well and hope the pain wasn’t too awful last night.
