  1. Lots of birthdays around the 25th ,which tells me that the TV must be crap in March? Hope you all have a good birthday as well as Christmas . Spare a thought for those who have to work the festive period ...
  2. Morning it's 9.c and the high winds have settled down somewhat. I know your expecting a joke about retired pensioners but non of them work. Being retired is a good job and you know your doing it right when all the days seem to merge ,so much fun you ask yourself "what day is it ?" Good news for those who dislike dark mornings .. It's getting a bit more light from today 😃 Have a good day 🙂
  3. Is it me ? am I missing something ? 🤔 Just seen an advert on TV for a furniture shop. They are having a Boxing Day sale which they say must not be missed and starts tomorrow 22nd ?? Has someone moved Boxing Day to other side of Christmas 🤔
  4. I keep seeing posts with words like " I guess" and " I think " even "not sure " The above is not a dig at anyone but if in doubt then speak out ,to your insurer . As posted not all have same cover as other policy's . We had a query with ours and the company was happy to help . So when on our last cruise, we had no nasty surprises when we needed to talk to our insurance and claim handler who were brilliant and once they had our medical records and expense bill ,we were given a settlement which was in our bank 4 days later .
  5. First and foremost as Eddie said do what feels right for you . Your feelings are understandable with what you have been through the last few weeks. Years ago Mrs K's dad died on Christmas day , a few years on her mum the week before Christmas, The way she tackled it was thinking of what the departed loved ones would want . We know they loved Christmas, so we put the tree up for them as much as us .🙂 Yet again ,you do what feels right for you and your hubby - Take care 🙂
  6. As nurse Becket said you take care and get well soon .We look forward to updates from you once your on the mend . Best wishes 🙂
  7. We once had a goldfish that lived on ours .That would have been a good one for family fortunes . Name something you can watch on TV ? Our survey said ... 🙃 We take things literally , only other day Mrs said "Turn big light off " Problem is they are all the same size but I think she means the one strapped to our ceiling. Same if you sit at a table alone in a pub and someone comes up , points to the empty chair and asks is anyone sat in them ? The times I've been tempted to say " just the invisible man and his family "
  8. Just use Freeview TV guide https://www.freeview.co.uk/tv-guide?userNid=64257#5CJpuzyYSUPvjmcK.97 It lets you plan a week ahead . My main go to film at Christmas will be Home Alone 2 cos it's as daft as me 🙃
  9. Yep ,all those working from home .Do they have a office party for themselves ?🤔 Do mums still disappear for half a day ,stuck in the supermarket in a mile long queue as we need at least six extra loaves due to the shops being shut for two days 🤔 Carol singers ? Do they still accept cash or card only . Do folk still order the Radio and TV times to avoid disappointment ?🤔 Either way we still enjoy cos it's Christmas 😃
  10. For those who are not going out to the pub for Christmas lunch or having a quiet meal for two and are stressing about Christmas Day.. Here's some top tips for Christmas Dinner....🙃 I have concluded that the inevitable stress of Christmas dinner is created by adverts, supermarkets and TV chefs... It's a Sunday dinner for goodness sake!!! The only difference is that you are allowed to open a bottle of wine before you open the kitchen curtains. We do it quite happily 51 weeks of the year but can we the consumers be trusted to manage by ourselves on one day of the year...apparently not! Here goes... 1. Turkey... It's a big fat chicken that's all, 20 minutes per lb plus 20 minutes at 180 degrees - jobs a good un! Get yourselves a meat thermometer £3 off the Internet poke it in the offending bird if it says 75 degrees or over its cooked! 2. Stuffing - regardless of what Jamie Oliver says you do NOT need 2lbs of shoulder of pork, onions breadcrumbs, pine nuts and a big load of fresh herbs to make stuffing.... What you need is Paxo and a kettle!! If you wanna liven it up squeeze 3 sausages out of their skins and mix that in with your Paxo before cooking . 3. Gravy - Jamie Oliver is copping for this one as well.... Bisto Jamie.... All you need is Bisto ! I ( nor anyone else I know) has got time on Christmas Eve to mess about roasting chicken wings and vegetables, adding stock and flour cooking it for another half hour, mashing it all up with a potato masher and then straining the whole sorry mess to make gravy 4. Vegetables... Never mind faffing round shredding sprouts and frying them with bacon and chestnuts to make them more palatable... If you don't like them don't buy and cook the things!! If your family only eats frozen peas then that's good enough! 5. Roast potatoes... Yes, I par boil mine, then roast them in goose fat, but Aunt Bessie also does the same . 6. Trimmings /Christmas pudding and the like.... Aldi or Lidl! (oh and while we're on the subject of pudding - if Birds custard is what your family likes on the wretched thing then that's fine - you do not need brandy butter/rum sauce, etc, or anything else that costs a fortune and takes 2 hours to make!) 7. Family.... Children.. Feed the little blighters first separately, if they only want turkey with tomato sauce - fine leave 'em to it, it doesn't matter. Once they are fed, let them play with their Christmas presents so that you can enjoy your dinner in peace! Adults... Anyone that can manage to get their sorry backside to your dinner table is also capable of helping to serve up/sort the kids out/clear the table/wash up/dry up, etc. And Finally..... NO ONE.... And I mean no one apart from the cook is allowed to get drunk and fall asleep before everything is put away !
  11. I just sent five minutes looking on the t -pilot site and apart from the silly 5*reviews that any insurer gets with "they took my money with no fuss " as they would . Others read I was stuck and no one to talk to, no help ,everything online . As we are not allowed to advertise I will say this a few weeks ago when my Mrs took ill onboard a ship we were landed a 2K plus bill but no worries . As once home they contacted us with a human who sorted us out with what was required and could talk to them anytime . More important they paid out no stalling . My advice if they don't have a UK call centre and are mega cheap I would steer clear . When things go wrong and your heads all over the place , you will be glad of a reassuring voice and not texts and e-mail chats from your insurer .
  12. It's so easy to track Santa on Christmas Eve because he always accepts cookies.🙃 (And mince pies ,carrots milk, wine )😉
  13. Funnily enough a few weeks ago on the Ventura ,once in the cabin the Mrs decided to make a brew and shouted me in off the balcony .. "Whats that sound ?" What we thought was a dull thud thud sound every 20-30 seconds coming from the roof behind the TV .. Could it be a water leak ? sounds like one ,hard to tell . Enter our cabin steward and we tell him about it . Next thing he folds up the luggage mat off the bed as we had done with it and then wedges it down the side of the TV and the outside wall . No more intermittent sounds . Moral of the story .. Go to the person who knows the cabin best much better than going to reception 🙂
  14. When I used to do the working mens clubs I used to hear young adults and old ones say " Not coming in tomorrow as they have a disco on " Plenty of old folk would still be in there and after a few jars would be shaking their bones about the place along side the younger aged . Bingo night was met with the same but other way around with younger adults sat with the older ones all trying to win but all having fun . Some people would steer clear as it wasn't for them and go to the pub up the road . A bit like your cruise ships ,you choose the ones you like and steer clear of the ones you don't . Some ships are livelier than others and adults of all ages will chose what suits them and I would agree that some ships will draw a certain age group more than others .
  15. So you think those who will not control their kids does not spoil it for the rest of the people regardless of age ?🤔
  16. Morning I like to spend time with an early morning cuppa ,so here we are 😀 I sit here wondering what some of you dog owners will be buying your pooches for Christmas ? This dog got a Sky Sport Golf subscription and loves it . He has learnt to keep his eye on the ball 🙃 .......
  17. We agree ,we stayed at the Next hotel and had a room overlooking the hill and lots of people looked worse for wear and had to have a breather by the time they passed us going up that hill. So if they don't want to turn up in their suitable attire ,looking possibly hot and sweaty and out of breath, It would be a good idea to heed your advice regarding a taxi up , that is unless they are akin to a mountain goat . https://www.google.com/maps/@32.6421207,-16.9179912,3a,75y,301.39h,84.48t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sstYRJOmhhbX4BzXeK-WH8w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?entry=ttu
  18. Morning it's looking a bit bleak out there but we are going nowhere today . Looking at @Josy1953 "to do list" is a fine example of how busy and pulled out us retired folk can get ,how we used to fit a job in as well is a mystery . One week until the big day when we can relax , well when I say we, I mean us men as we turn into supervisors or nip off down to the pub .😉 Anyone thinking of baking this week .. in my supervisory advice please follow the instructions below carefully .🙃 Have a good day 🙂
  19. Wow good luck with that lot but I'm sure it will be worth it . I'll never forget one Christmas when my father went to jail. He was refusing to talk to anyone being downright rude and swearing enough to make a miner blush . I never played Monopoly with him ever again.🙃
  20. A nice bright sunny 9.c this morning here . Mrs K said she is going to do a Sunday dinner with a chicken from Morrisons . I wonder how many folk will still have a Sunday dinner next week with it falling on Christmas eve ?🤔 Not many at a guess . Have a good day everyone 🙂
  21. Ours did them and other wonderous things like shepherds pie but I used to like my pot of tea and a warm sausage roll with flaky pastry that went everywhere as you bit into them .Nice though .
