  1. Exactly Common sense isn't so common. Further proof, many people will just shell out money arbitrarily because a false narrative has been created by industry. (See cruise line auto gratuity)
  2. If you are so concerned about the financial stability of the crew, why are you rushing to pay the lower rate. Surely the crew are worth the extra money
  3. They DO pay a living wage, and the crew are guaranteed this money, by international law. Royal just wants YOU to subsidize this salary, AND be able to advertise a lower price. Do not allow them to play on your emotions, refuse to participate.
  4. No, people like me are trying to force a fix to the problem. If people like me were the problem, then gratuities would remain constant on lines that do not allow one to "opt out", that clearly is not the case. I appreciate your viewpoint, but I firmly believe the blind acceptance of the constant, never ending, gratuity pool expansion, has to stop, and that begins with people taking a stand.
  5. Exactly! The steward is working FOR me, not the other way around
  6. It is all or nothing with the daily "auto gratuity". Just remove them and tip in cash as you see fit.
  7. You have to have the pre paid intention added to your reservation prior to 11/11 to qualify for the current rate
  8. I don’t tip laundry or galley clean linens and plates are included in the fare cancel the auto gratuity
  9. The “other hotel services” category is a major problem for me, and is why I quit participating years ago
  10. That’s a major assumption, and not one I am comfortable participating in.
  11. We all know for sure how it works. It’s open knowledge how the contracts read. Crewmbers are guaranteed a set salary based on international convention. The cruiseline MUST make sure they receive this amount in their pay packet. This amount should come from Royal’s revenue. Gratuities should be ON TOP of this amount. In the current “auto gratuity” model this is not at all what is happening.
  12. I am not defensive, and it is irrelevant if your comment was directed towards me. This is how we discussion board works, everyone sees all the comments and anyone can comment on any of them.
  13. If I do not interact with them face to face; they are not a tipped position.
  14. Thank you. I am well aware the published position statement on the topic. Behind the scenes personnel, as I stated above, are not tipped positions. My cruise fare covers their salary.
  15. Completely different business model; you are comparing apples and oranges. Furthermore, no one (at least me) is advocating to not tip. I just refuse to be guilted into blindly contributing a pre determined amount into a slush fund
  16. Since win are laundry staff and dishwashers, tipped positions? Clean linen and clean flat ware are the bare minimum expected for my exorbitant cruise fare
