  1. I also buy the Mexican vanilla, just be sure that water is not listed first in the ingredients. I also buy a wooden carving. Belize has some beautiful birds, owls made out of gourds.

  2. I can confirm the payment option with the 6 mo no interest. I booked my December cruise this way. I will definitely pay it off on or before the 6 months to avoid the interest.

  3. Completely........ it all started in 2004 when my 16 yr old (then)son went to visit a cousin from Germany who was visiting with my Mother in Florida. Now Grandma felt she could not entertain these two teenagers so she called me and asked me if my son had a passport. Hmmm why would be need that I asked? To go on a cruise my mother exclaimed. A cruise, he can't go on a cruise before me I shouted. Then my mother offered to pay for my fare if I wanted to join them.

I immediately accepted and my DH and youngest DS also came along. Well, we have sailed at least once a year since then.

I have a few more under my belt than my DH. Girls cruises and such. 17 carnival cruises and one planned for this December.

I too cannot stand it if I do not ave a cruise on the books.

  4. YES!!!! And for all the people that said complaining, voicing dissatisfaction with the decision and putting the poll out wouldn't make a difference, I say [emoji14]!

I'm not saying the poll itself did it, but I think it may have helped them to see that a large majority were against it. No matter what the demographics/percentage of CC members are, we are still Carnival cruisers (for the most part). From what I saw on FB there were a lot of upset people there too. Not to mention those that wrote and/or called in (myself included) or even canceled or refused to book more cruises. I am thrilled if this is true and look even more forward to my upcoming Glory cruise. Wish they would make an official announcement.

Firemanbobswife l, I thought of you immediately when I read the post about reversing the decision. Thank you for all of your efforts!!!! I hope to see it announced officially soon.

  5. I cover our luggage tags in packing tape at home. I cut off the parts that say, "Do Not Cut", fold them in half, wrap them, punch a hole in each one, and put them and zip ties in the folder with all of our cruise documents. The morning of embarkation, we attach the tags to our luggage at the hotel and head to the ship.

I do exactly the same thing.

  6. Hey guys, new here and thought this would be a good place to ask a couple questions. Long story short I finally talked my boyfriend into going on a cruise with me he has never been on a cruise before. We were looking at the carnival sunshine out of port canaveral next march on its 8 day eastern Caribbean. Was looking at booking a balcony room for us, but I was curious what was everyone's thoughts on the sunshine that have been on it before and if it would be a decent boat to take a new cruiser on. I originally wanted to take him on Oasis but I think that would be overwhelming on a first go. Also when I signed onto my carnival status had dropped from platinum to gold, and I can't figure out why? Thanks everyone in advance.

You will find mixed reviews on the Sunshine. I sailed her twice last year and really loved it. The serenity deck is wonderful. The Havana Bar is a great place to eat and listen to live music in the evenings. I always have a balcony room. Nothing better than having coffee on the balcony in the morning. A glass of wine in the evening, while watching the stars. So many food options to be found on the Sunshine. JiJi's and Cucina Del Capitan were definitely worth the extra $15 in my option. Go any enjoy. You decide fir yourself if the Sunshine is for you.

  7. We are heading out on Ecstasy next month, and my wife and my friend's wife will surely pick slots as their game of choice. What slot machines have you guys had the best luck on? I am a card guy, so I can't give her advice on which ones to stick with. Penny slots, nickel slots, dollar slots?

    Any advice is appreciated!

(and yes, I know this is a most YMMV type question, not expecting an answer that will retire us both)

Saw a woman win $20,000 on a penny Quick Hit on the Sunshine. She was playing max bet of $2.00. It really is a timing thing. My DH won the random bonus of $800 on the lucky 88 playing minimum .88 cent bet.

  8. We've spent approximately 36 days on 3 cruise on Sunshine, including 16 days on her TA after her time in drydock....One of our favorite ships. As some have mentioned, up until Vista was released, Sunshine had the most paid and non-paid meal options of any Carnival ship to date...we really like that...and we're not even foodies, but found the options desireable and worth the extra charges when we decided to pay.

I've seen some of the obligatory negative comments that come with many posts regarding Sunshine...too old...lipstick on pig...too crowded...added rooms took away space...rust bucket...yadda yadda...blah blah....been reading this same tired rhetoric since before Sunshine came out of drydock. While in drydock I read some of the most bizzare things I've read here about any ship or cruise, was truly amazing...and completely false. Seems some have made of hobby of criticizing this ship...go figure.

But, as some have said...serenity area with pool/waterfowl...nice...ship layout is mostly good..couple quirky "routes" to get around..but thats what makes her unique...not unmanageable as some think ....one negative I do agree with is the "bottle neck" next to Guys and Blue Iguana heading into or out of the Lido Marketplace...but its just that..a bottleneck...last seconds, not years as some portray it. To me this gross overcrowding is grossly over stated. Other than the bottle neck, ship does not feel any more crowded than others we've been on. We've hit all the food spots..have enjoyed them all....not every meal the best...but most were enjoyable. I could go on and on....but I have pasta to make....but we'd sail Sunshine again in a heartbeat.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I sailed on the Sunshine last October, as well as Christmas week and I never felt that the ship was overcrowded. Perhaps the lido deck pool area is what seems smaller, but I stay away from that area because the music is not my type and always a bit too loud for me. I agree with the bottleneck at Guys and Blue iguana, but that just takes a little bit of patience.

I never had a problem getting a seat in the serenity area, and I did not have to set out earlier than 8:00 -8:30 am to find one.

I also enjoyed the Havana Bar, I could always find a seat there, sampling of food was good and bar service excellent.

I wouldn't hesitate to sail the Sunshine again.

  9. My DH and I both have received $500 for a premiere cruise. Lately he was offered $400 and I was offered $300. We cruise at least once a year and spend a lot in the casino. We have both received bounce back offers but could not use them.

  10. Hello, can you please tell me where on Carnival site did you find the pay pal? Thanks

Firsttimecruizer check out Carnival Cruise Line News, online. That's were I discovered that they now accept PayPal.

  11. Hello, can you please tell me where on Carnival site did you find the pay pal? Thanks

The option was there for me when making my initial booking. At the point of deposit, there were a few tabs to select from. Credit card, gift card, and pay pal.

  12. Cruzlover, your info was much appreciated and a great option to look into for those like myself who are on a budget and can only plan cruises at least a year in advance. It's nice for those who can just plunk down the cost of a vacation and sail away, but there are those of us who can't do that and we shouldn't even have to justify it to them.

Everyone's financial situation is different, and the way we pay or save for our vacations shouldn't be looked down on or questioned by others. I guess we're supposed to just waste away in out run down slums because we don't deserve to vacation!

Besides, Carnival is known for being a budget cruise so I have no idea why people like that are even sailing them. I would think Windstar Cruises would be more up their alley.

You are so right, everyone's financial situation is different and the exact reason there are so many options out there for everyone. I typically don't let posts like that bother me, but lately this forum is full of posters that should just move on if they cannot add helpful information. I come here to look for advice, as well as give it, and I have learned a lot over the years and appreciate all the savings and insights from serious posters. Happy Cruising to you cfr70!

  13. I am not the person you asked this question to but since I might well have done the same thing they did I will answer. I am not wealthy although my income is in the top percentile of Americans. I try to pre-pay my vacations before I leave but over time. I generally plan a trip about a year in advance so that gives me time to save the money over time. Something like the interest free 6 month pay option with Paypal is exactly the kind of tool I use to accomplish this.

More power to you if you have enough disposable cash laying around to pay for a trip but some of us have to plan ahead and do it over time!

    Thank you!!

  14. With all due respect, if one requires 6 months just to cover the deposit, how can one expect to be able to afford the cost of the cruise ?

It was just an OPTION that worked for me for the deposit at this time. I will pay it off along with the remaining balance. I have plenty of cruises under my belt and I am not well off. I just know how to accomplish savings and take advantage of many offers to be able to cruise annually. AND, I don't mind passing the info along to others.
