Yes and No.  The Yacht Club is handled differently than the remainder ( a sort of 2nd class distinction) . In 2nd a number of items that are customarily included are charged for. IMO nothing whose exclusion would ruin the experience or break the bank. However, MSC's pricing for 2nd class is very attractive in comparison to other lines while still offering superior service, food and amenities. I understand MSC has adjusted their optional pricing for cruises starting in North America. Incidentally, trips I have taken originating from Miami have all had 50% +foreign nationals passengers which I rather enjoy.

I the mix too.  So if I understand you correctly the Yacht club includes everything that say Princess or HAL does (perhaps more). In this two class distinction are dining rooms and parts

of the ship reserved for them like in days gone by and 2nd class have lesser  amenities or do you buy those up once you are on board if you wish to ?   Thanks for answering and I don’t want to divert the thread but I will look up MSC

on CC.  They seem to have some interesting

Itineraries that others don’t.  On the other hand I

hate to be nickel and dimed to death or have to

pay for a bed pillow.   Again thanks!    Mike

I have booked MSC Meraviglia in Yacht Club for a January sailing and am looking forward to a different (Italian) cruise experience.

Wasn’t the Costa Concordia MSC?   I have never

been on that line previously.  If so hopefully the Captain is not going to impress his girlfriend. Is he still under house arrest?  Or is he in prison?

I was reading somewhere recently that I think it was that line that changes for everything separately

    True or false?   Mike

The Leonardo da Vinci was taken out of service in 1978 and burned while in layup in 1980. I'm not aware of any alteration of her original stabilizers .  Raffaello and Michelangelo were twin liners with identical deck plans although Raffaello had a very slightly larger gross tonnage.  I never could perceive where the increased space was.

For some reason these two ships were built without portholes in some hull cabins which could easily accommodate portholes.  That was a very bad decision.

Andrea Doria and Christoforo Colombo were also twins sharing the same deck plan.

Each ship had unique interior decor and unique ambiance.  I'll post some comparative images.

If Leonardo burned in 1980 what did I see in the Caribbean around 1998 which had the same name and looked the same?   Also I didn’t mean that modern stabilizers were added to any of these old ships but they have made modern cruise ships much more comfortable for the  guests.   Mike

  4. As I understand it the Michaelangelo was sold to the  Shaw of Iran for his military and I saw the Leonardo da Vinci in the Caribbean about 20 years ago. It was still serving as a cruise ship. I have no idea who owned.  It was still serving as a cruise ship. I have no idea who owned it.  The only and main

improvement was the introduction of better Stabilizers. Remember the ledge around the dining tables so that the plates and cups would not fall off.  Which ship was the sister ship to the Andra Doria?    Mike

  5. I sailed from NYC to Naples and back many times on the ships you mention when I was in school in Rome 1968-1972.   They were wonderful experiences.   Everytime

I am in NYC I visit the area where the west side piers were and especially the Italian lines and relive those days.   It was the only way to go if you had “trunks” before

air shipment was available.  We always went Cabin class.  The three class distinctions were strictly enforced.   Mike

  6. I have heard a lot of complaints on all the Royal class ships..just off the Royal...about using the atrium for noisy and specialized events. Instead of strings and classy music now seems to be used as a free for all. Would hate to have to work in the shops. Put the noise and exercise classes back in Vista.

Seems like they want to show everyone the staff is working. Mike

  7. Yikes! How does one spend 60 days on a cruise ship? Even if I was retired, and I’m not, I don’t think I could be away from my life that long. The longest vacay we have done is 2 weeks and that seems to be the amount of time that I’m really longing for my own bed and to get back to my routine.

I’m sure it’s a super fun time and an amazing experience, but even the thought of 60 days away makes me anxious! LOL

You would be surprised! Last year I did 50 and had the same question. But by day 50 I was ready for another! Mike

  8. Confused about this...my Princess Vacation Planner said if we cancel after final payment...insurance would cover the deposit...is this not true??

If your original deposit was refundable you will get it back but if it wasn’t you won’t. Mike

  9. We were on that TA cruise on the Royal 9/10/18 to 9/25/18. I was a little sad to miss those ports, and Vigo was not great on a Sunday, but I don't want to sail in bad weather , nor do I like rough seas. So, I am happy that we went south. I had done other crossings before on other lines, and some had such bad weather that we had to spend entire days in our cabins. Although, I feel okay and don't get sick, I have a much better time with smooth seas and nice weather. For me it was a great cruise.

Vigo is an hour from the great Church of Santiago de Compostela, for over a thousand years the third most important Church in Christianity

It is difficult to get to by road. What better day than a Sunday? Everything was open and crowded. For the many who made it there by Princess excursion or other means it was the highlight of the trip.

If you are not Christian it still has great historical importance. Hundreds if not thousands of people arrive there on foot pilgrimage daily. The movie “The Way” with Martin Sheehan has the pilgrimage as backdrop. The folks I were with were very impressed. Mike

  10. The entire web site has been down for several hours. I noticed it about 4 hours ago and called an agent and they said everything has been down for several hours and no time has been given them them for repair. It didn’t sound like anytime soon. It came back partially for a few minutes and then went dead. Mike

  11. We may have to cancel due to cancer...put $100 down for each of us 2 cruises. Wiill we just loose our FCC or 10% charge? Thanks for your help.

The future cruise deposit is in place of the 10% deposit.. both are not needed. Most deposits are refundable unless the contrary is stated. Mike. (I hope I understood your question properly)
