Question for Mike...
In receiving breakfast in your cabin within 10 minutes of calling, I'd like to ask--are you in a suite or a regular cabin?
I am always in a regular balcony. Yesterday was the first time ever that service was delayed to half an hour from 10 minutes due to very high volume according to order taker. Needless to say we get to know each other taking every day. Mike

You must read the fine print. For US usually up to two days in advance unless exotic involving helicopters etc. and if one on your first full day no when you board but it is likely other countries have different rules. I am on the Royal now and due to weather they automatically cancelled all Princess excursions. Those who prepaid private are left to fend for themselves and hope the company is reputable

I was on the Pacific Princess coming down the Amazon about 6 or 7 years ago. It was also the shower water. I am aware of the purification system. It lasted only a couple of days (we were on the Amazon from Manus to Ft Lauderdale via Devils Island. Perhaps something was broken but when the crew said they wouldn’t drink it that tended to make me reluctant as well. As a matter of fact didn’t even take a shower for a couple of days. Hasn’t happened before or since. No info given to passengers but it did make me switch to bottled which I buy at very reasonable rate on cruise personalizer. Mike

I used to ask the cabin stewards if it was ok to drink and they assured me the out of the faucet was fine but coming down the Amazon I turned on the faucet and brown muddy water came out. I asked him and he said
He wouldn’t drink it. Since then I have taken to ordering bottled water.,,but I wonder what the ice cubes and dining room water are??? I must say I never got sick from it. Bottled water seems to be in fashion nowadays. An Irish guide said he never drinks water that is not bottled above the first floor even at home “since no telling how long it may have been sitting in the pipes”. Mike

Curious, How late are you ordering breakfast? I always figured there is an early morning rush, but we usually get room service before 7:30 AM. Perhaps I've been mistaken on my assumption.

I have ordered it as late as 1030 and as early as 600 and anytime in between. The speed at anytime in the morning is unbelievable. Mike

PS. I never order the night before since that binds you to their schedule. I just call and ten minutes later it arrives. No getting up to wait. I call from bed and often it is here by the time I get up and put a robe on...no kidding. Mike

I don’t order until I get up whenever. It is almost unbelievable how fast it arrives...usually less than 10 minutes. I do it almost daily since I hate crowds or rushing anywhere in the morning. Last year I was on a 49 day cruise and with the exception of two days had breakfast from room service daily. They don’t require or expect a tip but I usually write a dollar or two. Mike

If Santiago de Compostela is still available as a excursion from Vigo I highly recommend it. It was one of the top three pilgrimage routes for Christians for 1;000 years. After Jerusalem, Rome, then there was Santiago de Compostell. It is very hard to reach but Vigo is the jumping off Port for the town and the Cathedral.There are still thousands that make the pilgrimage on foot every week. it means Saint James in the field of the stars. The weather should be a little warmer. On one cruise many years ago we were stuck on a Carnival ship in the port for Caracas, Venezuela for three days because a container ship just ahead of us had all the containers slip off the ship in to the narrow opening of the harbor. The captain was afraid that a container would block the ship since there was so little clearance. The customs officials refused to come back and there we settled on the ship docked for the three days. We had to miss the island of Aruba after divers ascertained That all was well. We then headed directly back to the US. When you travel you must be prepared for anything. Better safe than sorry. Mike

I have no idea about the first part, you have to look at the UK web site. In regard to the second part for us in the US it is important to check if the sailing is very popular...e.g. the first cruises and TA of the new Sky Princess next Fall are filling up fast and also our 3 for free promotion is my favorite and on now. I understand from reading CC that you in the UK can not refare (my understanding) based on CC posts that I have read. If there is little demand then it might be better to wait until the fare goes down. In the US we can simply call Princess and they will give us a better fare.... It also depends on other factors such is the deposit refundable? In the US it usually is but not always. I think you need an answer from either a UK frequent cruiser or a UK travel agent. Mike

FWIW, it's not uncommon for businesses in some northern US states to offer such "Canadian at Par" deals to entice Canadians from large population centers to come over the border and shop. As one example, ski hills in upstate New York and Vermont have done it for years., though perhaps less so when, like now, our $ is so weak compared to the US $ If Princess aren't doing now, it's probably because they don't need to in order to get Canadians to sail with them. We just suck it up and pay 30% more for our cruises because we love cruising with Princess.
As I mentioned I am on board The Royal at the moment doing a TA to NYC on a 15 day cruise since we make several stops in Europe. Today we are in Hamburg. I think the ship holds around 3,600 but because of singles only about 3,300 are on board. Yesterday at the
M&G the staff mentioned about 2,300 US citizens on board, second as usual was Canada with about 350, third was Australians with about
300, fourth was UK with 225, and fifth was Germany. I stand to be corrected since I a writing from memory. Of course other countries represented as well.
If anyone can figure out why the US$ is so strong I would be very interested. I have read a number of articles and they range form A-Z
Some attribute it to Brexit especially for the € and £ for Europe. Others attribute it to politics and the American President, still others attribute it to the supply of and low demand of/for oil. Perhaps it is a combination of all three.
All articles that I have read say that in times of uncertainty investors flee to the US $. I am not an economist but understand travelers from the US benefit the most from a strong US $ but I find the average traveler knows or
cares little about exchange rates. Mike

I follow currency since I travel a good deal. Aus$ and Canadian$ exchange rather poor compared to US$. A few years ago..,about 5 both were close to 1/1. The US$ is strong also compared to € and £ and in fact most currencies. I can’t explain but excellent for US travelers. Mike

I have seen Hamilton and still will stick with my Baroque concert for 10% of the London price. Do you think it
ranks with some of Shakespeare’s plays and not just remembered but preformed then? I believe other than he and since we are in England only The Mousetrap by Agatha Christi is still preformed on a constant basis. It held the record already 50 years ago. Mike
PS I am not criticizing Hamilton, it was good but my personal opinion is that it is not among the very great! Mike

Not to mention the ease of carrying 10-15 books with you or many more on a long trip or cruise and an important fact Amazon prices are often only 2/3 the price and you can shop almost anywhere and have your book in about a minute. I used to have many of the same sentiments until I tried it and now I would never go back. Mike

Everything depends on the weather. Many times passengers can barely make it with two people helping. I have heard announcements that it will not be possible for disabled to safely make it onto and off of a tender. Mike
