I realize we have gone down an unintended route in this thread which should be about the Princess insurance policy. A military route. The Princess insurance policy is definitely worth it in my opinion and especially the cancel for any reason. Mike

I am sorry but we are writing past each other. I care not who pays or where to send. I am merely making the point that for retired military out of the country Tricare for Life takes the place of Medicare which only exists in US itself. Perhaps the best way to avoid misunderstanding is to google Tricare for Life. Mike

After a long time doing it myself... I would never use a TA...for some of the reasons listed...I recently discovered that Princess itself has very competent group of not TAs but Customer Service Agents. They are exceptional and not reached but the usual 800 Princess #. They have a separate # which unfortunately I don’t have with me since I am in London bound on the Royal tomorrow for a 15 day TA to NYC. She went through all 5 cruises booked through end of 2019 and saved me more than $2,000 in 10 minutes. She emphasized she is not a TA but a special agent working directly for Princess and in the future I am free to use her or not. I intend to continue to do it myself but check it with her after I make the booking...she gave me her 4 digit
extension and said that are long serving agents dedicated to frequent Princess customers. Mike (very pleased to stumble onto this)

Agree. The revolution is not in a day, a week or even a year....it will be gradual but certain and ships are built for the future. Suddenly about 10 years ago cursive writing disappeared from our elementary schools. I found out when I wrote some young friends thank you notes and they told me they couldn’t make out all the swirls and connected letters
A few years ago our very high priced local Catholic High Schools announced that beginning the following year everything would be done on iPads from note taking, homework to tests. Certain things can happen very quickly and unexpectedly. They continue to use them even though a variety of studies have shown subject matter is not retained as well when typed on an iPad. Someone recently said we could cripple a whole generation if we had only cars with stick shift and used cursive writing. Mike

You take this cruise because you love sea days. We’ve lived in Hawaii for 10 years.
It’s not the land days, although we’ll enjoy them. We love sea days.
Agree. As someone said you go for the love of sea days. If you want to tour Hawaii fly there and back. Almost all cruise lines do it this way. Otherwise you would have to double the length of the cruise. Mike

They must be eager to get your money to pay for the new Sky. I am doing the 14 day TA on it in November, 2019...I haven’t checked yet but will. Mike

Very interesting but hurry back to Southampton. We are eagerly waiting to take your place on the 15 day TA to NYC. I have done the cruise you are just completing....the only problem for me it was too short. Mike

I took the 49 Maiden voyage last summer from Civitavecchia to Shanghai and the sockets were US and one other. Since now for Chinese and Aus markets there has been a change. Have no idea what these are
Perhaps Chinese and Oz. Our hotel in Shanghai was equipped with US... I had no need to use a converter. Mike

Medicare will definitely not pay. I have had Tricare for Life pay no matter whether I am on land or sea.....however if you buy other insurance as I now do for cruises they may make it a first payer and then they, Tricare for Life, second payer. If you had no other insurance they would be first and only payer. A bit complicated and depends on info you give. Of course various other factors are key: a pre existing condition, how the ship’s doctor and your doctor code the illness or procedure, etc. Every circumstance is slightly different but can result in big differences. I have a legal background. Military However, I couldn’t analyze a case for certain without reviewing all the documentation and circumstances. Mike

The problem is we are all in the now but the newer plus newest ships are built for the future....thus small or no libraries. I don’t like it either but our now will be gone in five to ten years and that is what the near term future holds. Buildings just built or being built are with the near term future in mind....if San Diego just opened a new “old fashioned” library that is very unusual and will likely not be around for long....sorry. I hope everyone realizes I am
referring to US only. I have no idea how other countries operate. Mike

Tricare for life is not available for Vets but only retired active or reserve military. If a vet has the required # of years to retire, usually 20, then they do have Tricare for Life at 65. Being a vet and a retiree are different matters. Mike

Tricare for life covers anywhere in the world. It matters not whether on or off ship...it is only first payer. Princess insurance is second payer. Medicare is no payer. This I am certain of. Mike

Many covered by TRICARE FOR LIFE don't realize that it is TRICARE OVERSEAS that will be the TRICARE that you file with when getting covered for any illness or accident that happens when out of the country. Personal experience when wife broke her leg with on a Princess cruise in Greece. They are the first payer and the princess protection covers anything that they don't cover.
Correct. Tricare for Life is good overseas as principal payer..it is good anywhere On the other hand Medicare is no good on the ship once it leaves US waters. The ship is not a little US no matter where it is as some must think. Most are not even registered in US..This is the problem. Some think ship is a little piece of the US. It isn’t.

ive noticed the bigger the ship the library is terrible, starting with the royal. Older and smaller ships library is fair to very good. go figure??
Obviously because they are building for the future. Mike. PS I too prefer paper books but are not the future. Many schools no longer use books but iPads

Libraries are alive and well here in San Diego!! It would be nice for the ships to have some books available too. I don't mind if it is paperback or hard cover.
I understand that many folks bring their electronic reading devices but some of us travel lighter and like real books at hand.
I hope you realize that this is not “the wave of the future”. Mike
