  1. Simple-minded question alert! On O, can one choose to book a guarantee in a given category when specific cabins are still available? On O, we've only ever booked GTY when there were no cabins available to book
  2. So maybe I'm too skeptical lol, but if the ship is still moving when I think we should be moored, I'll look at the map on the TV to see where it says we're at. So far the map hasn't been supressed even if the announcement hasn't come that there's an itinerary change. I also have a free GPS app on my phone that shows where we're at - as long as you've downloaded the map already, no cell or data charges apply. So it is theoretically possible for travelers to keep track and cruisers to sleep without interruption😊
  3. @SATaxman yes this is very frustrating. I apologize, I wasn't trying to blame you. Sadly I suspect the airline doesn't care if your reasons are legit or not, they can just say "no". Airlines today rarely grant exceptions even for their super-best customers, but if you can make that happen go for it! I would suggest you consider having a plan of how you will deal with the itinerary and/or the seats in case an exception isn't granted. From what little I know of the details, I'd be very surprised - pleasantly very surprised - if an exception is granted.
  4. This definitely does sound frustrating @SATaxman ! From what you have shared, it sounds like your "1 free change" has been used so Turkish has fulfilled their obligation. I am no longer an 'air warrior', but based on recent experience most airlines are unlikely to make exceptions and allow further changes for "free" these days unless the ticket requires them to That still leaves you with an itinerary that isn't perfect and possibly an issue with seat assignments. Your TA will likely have the best advice for seat assignments, and you can always check out the FlyerTalk forum for other flyer's experiences and advice. If you do ask on FlyerTalk, I highly suggest you share specific flight details (date, flight #s) & current seat assignments. Worst case, it is possible that without paying $$$ you will be flying as currently ticketed. If you are not able to update seat assignments until then, you may still have a chance at the airport or if that fails by asking to informally swap onboard. Informal swaps are a whole other long topic, reasonable people agree to disagree if it is even wise to ask.
  5. So I am also an over-planner dedicated to spreadsheets lol Years ago we did a cruise with my folks. I translated my planner to a little booklet - letter size paper folded, so one "executive" page per day. Port info including times and expected (one week+ out) weather, any excursion activity, dining info etc plus room for notes. My mom (not souch a planner but likes to know whats up) loved it And yes figuring out which half-pages to combine for printing was an education lol
  6. You are not alone. One upon a time in a prior century I arrived late evening on a business trip to a cigar-smokey suite. Back to front desk, took 10+ minutes to convince them a tiny but non smoking single room was better than the smokey suite
  7. We've only done one B2B - in 2021, and on that cruise, day 1 of segment 2 restarted the 14 day menu cycle. All our 15-day-plus cruises were pre-covid, for them day 15 was indeed a restart. Also I haven't paid perfect attention but the " final night" menu might be the same no matter what day of the cycle? And at least in Terrace, embarcation day lunch menu is embarcation day only (does not repeat even on longer cruises). Happy dining!
  8. I am celiac and O has done a great job with GF for me. There may be times that my pre-selection comes back as 'unable to accomodate' but that is perhaps 1 dish every 10 or 14 days, and they don't just leave stuff off to make it compliant. Not sure about GF bread at Terrace (I don't tend to ask), it's easy at sit-down restaurants. Sometimes they have GF pizza available but you have to arrange ahead by talking with the chef so not sure it's always an option. There are GF pancakes available in GDR, but the server may not know this. Terrace experience is most variable, some chefs will happily walk me through the buffet each meal and others I ask each server if something is (or is not) GF. The biggest gap has been food for wine tasting events, it has been better lately but that's the most likely place where even checking ahead of time may not result in a GF version waiting for me. They've always responded if there wasn't, but it's the most hassle I've faced to get GF. Overall very good GF experience on O
  9. I have used a vpn on Nautica and Insignia and Marina at least and probably Riveria as well. Marina and Nautica both post-covid. It might be worth a try ☺
  10. We were on Nautica this spring (2023) and yes we docked close in at both Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City - no hours-long transfers required. HCM the O provided shuttle was frequent (ish) and short, or you could simply walk out. Tip: to get the HoHo bus, the shuttle is easier especially for day 1 than the nearby-tiny-paved-median-island stop. Bangkok the R ship port is close in but not really walkable, the shuttle is longish and doesn't quite get all the way to River Phraya center of city. Still waaay closer than big-ship saltwater dock!
  11. Did I miss it, or has no one mentioned reminders? It's part of the charm of sea days that I completely miss things I wanted to go to because I got involved in something else that was absorbing...
  12. We've just shipped luggage once. We were boarding in Trieste for 21 days but staying in Venice before for 3 days. Didn't want to pack super light (under-pack?) nor did we want to lug fully packed 21 days of luggage through Venezia. So we shipped one large checked bag and took personal-item sized carry ons (well, 2 each not 1 each - but still, very manageable).
  13. The library has a wide if sometimes random range of books. Yes there are travel guides, but assume the ones for the region you are visiting will be borrowed by the first few folks onboard. Useful for studying your future cruise choices is how I think of it.
  14. I have sensitive hearing and we have noticed this on at least 1 Insignia and 1 Nautica trip. But not on our other trips so ymmv. For us this was not loud enough overall to be annoying and didn't happen at all during our personal 'quiet hours' so wasn't an issue for us.
  15. Oh I know that O does not confiscate booze, we regularly bring on an entire case of wine to begin and random spirits as we go along. I was just trying to see if there was an actual exception to what we all know is standard practice, or if this was a mis-remembering from a different cruise line. Apparently Cozumel is the culprit lol - I can attest that we brought back a few bottles of tequila and perhaps one other kind of spirit at Cozumel on two separate O cruises with no "collection" issues.
  16. Hey @Pandazoo could you share which ship and port O collected your alcohol to hold? We're headed back to the Carribean on O in December and would love your insight! On our 4 Carribean heavy O cruises so far we've purchased alcohol on each one with nothing collected. 3 of 4 post-covid O segments we have brought spirits and wine onboard with nothing collected but none of that has been in the Carribean...
  17. Does Dublin use port staff or use O folks for the checkin? Port staff check ins may close well before an hour prior to a later/evening sail away. That was our experience in Barcelona. We were fine but the concierge desk was busy trying to contact not-yet-checked-in people.
  18. Last year (August 2022) we took a ferry on our own from Sorrento to Capri and back. Checking in for our return, our ferry was cancelled! Instead they directed us to a different company's slower ferry. If we hadn't been early checking in we would have been on a later ferry and missed all aboard time! Definitely enjoyed our day - just advise building a little extra 'what if' time into planning when using ferries independently from Sorrento⛴️
  19. Cocktail dress will be fine. Some days that is what I wear, other days a top and slacks or skirt. Depending on itinerary, you may be slightly dressier than average but still well within the norm.
  20. Yes dessert wines are sweet, some sweeter than others. Many are also lower in alcohol since the fermentation is stopped before all the sugar is converted to alcohol.
  21. I think two things may both be true at once - #1 contractually the cruise company takes on no liability for third party arrangements, either air or excursions. #2 In practice, ships work much harder to (or perhaps have more control in situations where they need to) collect ships' excursion passengers than they do to embark delayed air passengers.
  22. This is true! The Nautica cabin ceilings are magnetic. Endimium magnets with hooks work well
  23. We have had an extended balcony 3 or 4 times iirc on O class. Once we requested loungers after boarding (and received them), the other times loungers were already there. Possibly this is a new permanent policy for A class. Also possible is they don't yet have a full stock of loungers on board Vista. Time will tell!
  24. You can arrange to drop off your bottle ahead of time - they can even open and decant at a given time if you wish. Also if you know you will drink certain bottles in the restaurants, your can hand over the bottles ahead of time (And corkage may be charged them iirc). Then you can summon the bottle by your cabin number. We decided it was easier for all to simply carry the bottle from our cabin.
  25. We aren't on Vista until 2025. If the pacing is unchanged, I anticipate ordering just appetizers and then at some delay selecting mains... And I might bring my earplugs!
