Good morning all , it looks like another nice day in the Daily neighbourhood , thank you Rich and friends .We have been a half dozen times to Ephesus from Kusadasi and I expect a lot of pictures today of beautiful Ephesus. In 2015 while on the Zuiderdam for a wonderful cruise in the Mediterranean we stopped in Kusadasi once more and I thought to surprise my DW with a different day out , I had booked a guide and with two other ladies we first did some touring around in the morning saw some Roman ruins , went to the obligatory carpet factory and before we went to a small local market to buy fresh supplies for the cooking class I had booked at the guides home with his wife so without further ado I will get to the pictures and they will do most of the talking I believe .To wake up and get acquainted some Turkish tea .For a couple of cigarettes from our guide to the local farmer we were allowed to take some pictures of the stork at a farmhouse right next to the van ……...Our supplies for what was coming ...............But first the sales pitchMeeting the guides wife in the very nice outdoor kitchen , our instructor and starting to chop .Getting right into itFilling the peppersDon’t worry they also kept me busy besides taking pictures I had to harvest grape leaves and do some chopping and rolling …..Testing and tasting .......mmmmmmmm !The final touchesWe dug right in so not too many nicely plated picturesIt was all delicious , we had such an amazing day and while DW did not know in the morning what was in store for her that day in Kusadasi ................ she just loved it !Tony 😁😘

Civitavecchia is always a nice destination to start , finish or be half way on a cruise and like many of you we have also been there quite a few times . Because I am expecting a lot of pictures of Rome today I will show some pictures from after disembarking our 2015 cruise on the Zuiderdam which finished in Civi and we than stayed a couple more days in the town of Fiumicino near the airport before crossing the Atlantic . While we were in Fiumicino we took an adventurous trip on a local bus to Ostia Antica the archeological site of the well preserved early Roman Harbour City near the mouth ( Os , latin ) of the River Tiber which is now a few km’s land inwards .Most of the buildings , remains , are from the 3rd up to 4th century BC . It is a very nice and fairly easy place to visit , even because of its large size and it is very nice to stay there for about 5 hours to take it all in .The mosaics on the floors are amazingThis was a self guiding tour ………where are we ………... and was was this …...Ah the forum and market placeWonder who collected all these heads that were chopped off ……….. she must have been very prettyAs you can see on the pictures the place is not overrun with elbow to elbow people , there is a lot of space so it is wonderful to really enjoy this .Time the next day to go home after a wonderful cruiseHave a great day everybody , Take Care and Stay Safe .Best thing …..just keep on dreaming being on a cruise soon !Tony 😁😘

Good morning all , the sun is shine here but it is cold -12 feels like -16 which I know is warm for people like @ger_77 on the frozen tundra .We had the pleasure to be in Hobard , Tasmania back in 2013 while on the Oosterdam which seems now ages ago , so just a few pictures today from the port and the gorgeous park we visitedBTW Tasmania was named after Abel Tasman a Dutch seafarer , explorer and merchant , he was the first known European explorer to reach New Zealand and the Fiji Islands and the Van Dieman’s Land ( now Tasmania ) Nov 24 , 1642 .The kangaroo and her kidThe devilOur wonderful guide Judy from “Eye See “ Tasmania , the " purple lady " who gave us a wonderful day and a delicious home prepared picnic out in the wild !Guess this is now also from the good old days an open flame BBQ out on deckHave a great day everybody Please Take Care and Stay SafeTony 😘

Happy that they asked us , and I believe most people will ask the cruise lines to ask for the booster shot , it is time for that now specially with the omicron because the efficacy of the first 2 shots has wained .

@sailingdutchy - Hi Tony!
I just noticed that we will be on the Nieuw Statendam with you for the March 27th sailing. We should try to get together during the cruise...
Fred & Mitzi
Keeping our fingers crossed that this will be possible Fred & Mitzi , we kind of booked this as a replacement of the Feb 2 Hawaii cruise which was so hard for us to organize because of all the uncertainties . So hope to see you on board the Nieuw Statendam

I just booked another trip, 7-Day Western Caribbean Obstructed Verandah. I immediately called and added CO for $175 and took a $500 cabin upgrade to an aft-facing verandah. As an extreme introvert who doesn't like crowds, the exclusive dining room already makes CO worth its weight in gold for me but having it pay for itself through the room upgrade is certainly a nice bonus 🙂
@sp00n Could you please tell us how or who to contact to order Club Orange ? And you mentioned $175 for 7 days so you are travelling as a single ? Thank you for posting your experience !

Hi @summer slope this was not from a website but a picture from a TV screen on board the ship in 2015 . Those screens have been changed quite a bit now over the years .

My pleasure! Actually, it was quite exciting, and unusual to see how it all worked out. I imagine it will be sooo much less expensive to care for sick crew on a ship, rather than having them hospitalized in the States, if any of them require hospitalization.
To my thinking a fantastic way of the cruise companies working together controlling situations and looking after their crews staying likely with Medical Experts on the Noordam rather than spreading them all over Ft Lauderdale hospitals . Thank you Ann @VictOriannfor letting us know what went on .

Good morning all ! Last month , I believe I posted a few pictures of our last visit to Kaohsiung from our memorable Westerdam cruise in 2020 so today I will post some pictures from our cruise on the Volendam in 2017 when we visited a number of very nice places from in and around Kaohsiung .- Lianch Lotus Pond and the Dragon Tiger Pagoda- Fo Guang Shan Buddha Memorial Center- Dome of light- and a few other nice spots we toured on our mini bus .After about a 40 minute drive we arrived at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Center and Museum . After 9 years of construction the Center opened to the public in 2011 on Christmas Day. ( It is over 100 hectares in size )Entrance to the SiteThere are the 8 Pagodas and at the end of the walk the Big Buddha , the museum and the worship area .Inside one of the PagodasBig BuddhaJust to show you the size of the Buddha a picture with some peopleTo be continued on my next post ……...

Happy New Year to all !
When we were on the Prinsendam cruise in 2019 we had a very nice day but simple day in Greenock . Once on shore we walked to the translation and purchased a combo ticked for the train ride including the Hop On bus in Glasgow for the day at a special rate .So without further ado and too many descriptions , you all partied too much last evening I assume , I will just post a few nice pictures .University of GlasgowArt GalleryA Scottish Independence RallyNo business in the Old Bank might as well turn it into a very nice Bar , business was booming !Took the train back to Greenock and returned to the Elegant Explorer after a very nice day .Our very Best Wishes in Health and Fortune to all for 2022DW and I just hope that our cruise coming up on 2 / 2 / 22 will be as special as these numbers are …………………Tony 😍-

We had a wonderful day and I had an amazing experience while on a tour with Jim Archer in Tauranga , New Zealand .On April 1st 2013 while on the Oosterdam on a cruise from Auckland to Sydney to Hawaii and ending in Vancouver we landed in Tauranga and with a small group we first stopped at one of the beautiful beaches , than went to a Kiwi farm to do some fruit and honey tasting and from there went to Rotorua where we witnessed all of the geothermal activity in the Te Puia Whakarewarewa Valley and to the indigenous Maori Village .The kiwis are grown about 5 or 6 feet off the ground ,they keep the branches tied down for easy picking of the fruit. This is Jim Archer a wonderful guide who is of Maori ancestry.Just try to pronounce this Maori word in one breath ..............Before we were allowed to enter the Maori Village we , the strange looking people from a different world, had to go through a special ceremony and Jim had made me Chief of about 100 visitors , to meet the Chief of the village .I was guided by an older lady a village elder and I had to convince the real Chief that we had come in Peace . They had first tried to scare me with their spears , loud voices and wild dances. Everybody even DW had to be at least 5 paces behind me and than I had to pick up a small evergreen branch off the ground after which we were than allowed to enter the Community Hall and witness a number of dances and of coarse the Haka and once I had to touched noses with all of the Haka dancers in stocking feet we were all treated to more wonderful with smiling dancers performing their routines .After the ceremony was over we saw and smelled the spewing and bubbling earth activity all around usBefore leaving the village we saw the hall where they still make all of the beautiful pieces for their homes , ceremonies and for the tourists .I will never forget this honour Jim bestowed on me and for a long time on that cruise I was called Chief by a number of other guests who toured Rotorua that same day.So I can really recommend Jim for a wonderful day in Tauranga / RotoruaTony 😍

Sorry, in my book, 2 days and 48 hrs. are one and the same but then again, I'm not the brightest pencil in the box, and no, the shoreside staffer in SD did not appear to look at the time on the test results, just at the date
I believe that Holland America mean by 2 days , 2 calendar days so you can be tested on Monday morning at 9 am fly from Toronto, Ontario to San Diego , stay for the Tuesday in a Hotel and climb on board on Wednesday at say 2 pm so that would be 53 hours and we would still be within the guide lines . At least we were told before our cruise on the Eurodam leaving from Venice and staying in a hotel for a day that would be OK ?????

Thank you very much for these pictures today @dfish like you said we love smoked eel , if they come out of the fridge or cooler just warm them up a little bit so the eel fat melts a little ................mmmmmm delicious . Hard to get here but if you are near a "Dutch store " in North America they most likely have them , but be prepared to pay big $$$ 's
I can taste them already in my mind .............
Tony 😍
