Hey Jacqui @kazu thanks for the pictures I saw some very familiar faces on them , from our Prinsendam cruise . We were also at that same winery that you showed which had been purchased a few years back by a Chinese company .
BTW we just had a nice email exchange with Andrea last week and might be cruising with her again next year .

On our wonderful 39 day Prinsendam cruise from Lisbon to Amsterdam we had an overnight in Bordeaux on May 2 and 3 2019 . The first day we first did a very nice wine country tour to St Emillion .
Our arrival to almost the city centre of BordeauxCelebrating our 50th at a winery and getting an extra glass from our tour guide !Back in Port we met up with a couple of old friends native to Bordeaux whom we had met in Canada who invited us for a nice dinner at their place . They both are English professors at the University of BordeauxAfter a nice dinner , some more wine they took us back walking and by tram late at night to the Prinsendam , it was wonderful to see them again after many years .I will be back a little later with my day 2 in Bordeaux pictures from a nice walking tour in the city .Tony 😄-

@sailingdutchy Tony, we were on that same Prinsendam voyage with you in 2019. Our farewell cruise on the Elegant Explorer.😪
1 hour ago, kazu said:Ditto here - except we started a segment earlier and got off after 2 segments so didn’t do this one. It too was our farewell cruise 😢
We embarked the Prinsendam on April 12 in Lisbon , like Jacqui and Jose did after enjoying a wonderful evening together at Sr Fado in Lisbon the night before and we stayed on board until May 20th in Amsterdam . Also had some nice tours and a few nice dinners at the Captain's table in the Pinnacle together . This was an amazing cruise ! 😁

Day 2 , May 15 2019 , on the Prinsendam in Dublin .A fantastic tour with “Beautiful Meath Tours “ who took us from Dublin going South to the Glendalough Monastic City in the heart of the National Park first .DW ready to go for another beautiful adventure in this new part of the world for us .It is very hard to capture the gorgeous scenery and when the heather is in full bloom I can well imagine it would even be more beautiful .From there we went to The Avoca Hand Weaver’s Place dating back to 1723 .Visited the Craft and Gift shop and had a nice little lunch before we drove back towards the Dublin to have a wonderful stop at the Powerscourt House and Gardens .In 2014 it was voted to be the 3rd most beautiful garden in the World as per National GeographicWe had to get back to the Port by 4.30 for departing to Zeebrugge plus there was a very special dinner we had to attend , from which I will show a few pictures if you don't mindAfter about 5 weeks on the Prinsendam and spending a lot of time in the beautiful Pinnacle we got to know the wonderful staff pretty well .Martha had the honours with the help from Jean Francois to uncork the Champaign with the sword !She did a perfect job , I better start watching myself ……...And yes that's why they call it a Special Cellar Master Dinner ......the wines were flowing .This was another very exciting day on this special and wonderful BHB !Hope I did not show too many pictures here today ……..but it is raining outside anyways !Tony 😄😃

Tony, it was a shore excursion when we were on the old Noordam in 1999. We flew out of Punta Arenas, Chile. It was a wonderful way to see part of Antarctica when it was clear and sunny. I'm not sure if it is still offered.
Lenda
Thanks a lot for that Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser, I can well imagine that must have been awesome , I will surely check that out if there is a next time for a Antarctic cruise for us .

A very late good evening. It was another busy day, but the port, driveway and house {at least the outside) are clean. All the vehicles and outdoor furniture are back in place, and just in time. Shortly after I finished, we had a thunderstorm. All that is left for tomorrow is to get everything I stored in DH's shop back in the outside cabinets and I’m done for another year. 🙂
Sorry to hear about the Canadian first responder who gave his life for others in Maryland.
I've enjoyed all the pictures of Antarctica. Ever since we flew over the area, I've wanted to do a cruise there.
Lenda
Hi Lenda , this caught my eye at this late hour , may I ask from where to where did you fly over Antarctica , that sounds very special . We have flown a few times across the Arctic to get from North America to Asia . In daytime that must have been quite a sight .

Having been to Antarctica on the Zaandam was one of my most amazing experience of our cruise history with the BHB’s even though we did not get on shore in Antarctica . But we spend most of our 3 days circling around on deck not to miss anything and taking it all in !
On the second day the Captain and the special Antarctica guide on board told all of us what was happening in the water very close to us , about a dozen Orca’s had cornered and caught a baby Humpback whale about a hundred meters from the Zaandam , the Captain stopped our forward movement and we were just floating for about an hour near this while it was getting closer and closer and they were feasting on their catch . The ships photographer happened to be out on deck and took an amazing Video which we and many many others later purchased . The Captain mentioned he himself had never seen anything like this either ............BTW this was during the second week of February 2015 we had expected it to be really really cold bought all kind of special underwear , heating pads etc etc and it was colder in Toronto Canada than those days in Antarctica !!!!!!Tony😍-

Wow! Like a post card!
Happy Fourth of July to my American friends and relatives!
We were there in the winter of 2015 for about 12 days hardly any place of business was open , there was very little snow plowing done so a complete different place than during the busy touristic season . It was very picturesque I must say , we had a great time .

I've been to Bar Harbor a number of times, starting with the Regent Sun in 1994, and also Blount Grand Caribe, . both Crystal Symphony and Serenity, and on the Veendam. Lots of nice photos and I'll post just a couple. A nice thing about the Grande Caribe is that it's small enough that it docked right in the center of town:
I'll post a bit of a story along with a photo from the Veendam. The Cruise Director was the often maligned Linda Minniken and it's the only time I sailed with her that was not on the Prinsendam. At the time I think is was just a 2-star mariner and was concerned about tendering as I was looking at a 10AM church service. After the show she gave some tips, including the fact that the demand usually isn't there for the first couple of tenders.
I was in line about 7:30 and ashore about 8:10 leaving me lots of time to explore before worship. I didn't do a lot but checked our a breakfast spot, "Cafe This Way" which was crowed in the morning but had plenty of room after the service. At 10AM I was at the United Church of Christ:
After the service I found the Blueberry Pancakes at Cafe This Way were a touch of heaven.
Roy
Cafe This Way is one of our favourite hang outs for lunch !!!! Well hidden of the street but it is always crowded , they have very good servers !

Good morning Dailyites , we had our big fireworks last night in celebration of Canada Day and all of you South of the still “locked “ border are probably making preparations for your big July 4th holiday !We had the great pleasure on October 31st , 2016 while we were on the Prinsendam , the " Elegant Explorer “ to go the the Island of Gozo on a tour with a small group together with our good friends Ann and Pat and DD Cathy @VictOriannWith our minibus we drove to the Northern part of the Main Island where we got on board the Gozo Ferry that would take us to the smaller island of GozoI kind of like this picture taken from on the ferry at our arrival on GozoGozo is quite different from the main island , qua culture , scenery and also history so there are lots of pictures to chose from today , hope to show a nice selection here without too much description. After visiting the two historic sites we drove to the North West coast of Gozo to see this natural wonder the “ Azure Window " a natural bridge developed from nature which started from the beginning of the 1800’sI am really happy to show you this nice picture , but also very sad because the Azure Window is no more , …… After a storm on March of 2017 , this huge 92 foot high pillar ……. Completely disappeared into the sea after a very large storm in the Mediterranean ……..just 6 months after we were there !Sharing this delicious platter " A Taste of Malta " with everything on it with for 4 of us !Waiting in the departure hall for the ferry back to the main islandA wonderful day was had by all of beautiful Gozo ……….glad we had an overnight in Valetta to be able to do this .Tony 😄

Wow some very nice colourful pictures of Japanese manhole ( sorry ladies for that name , ” it is what it is " ) I also have to show you mine we saw in Kushiro , Japan( BTW I know a friend who collects these pictures of the covers )These are the beautiful Japanese Red Crowned Cranes in the wetlands there.........and from Mrs Google :In Japan, the crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. ... An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane .

Another very nice Port today ! We had the pleasure to get to Hakodate while on the Transition Cruise on the Volendam on Oct 11th , 2017 , the weather was a little bit windy and the day started of with some rain but we had a wonderful tour with 8 of us in a “ Smile Jumbo Taxi “ with our driver /guide Hideo .Like I said the day started quite rainy and windy but our driver had umbrellas for each of us on board , notice the white gloves that Hideo wore all day and he had nice clean and ironed white head covers on our seats in the taxi .We first went up the mountain near Hakodate to the National park to have a great view over the city and walked over to the Gokoku Shrine where some special ceremonies were going on .From there we drove to the very top on the mountain to the RopewaySorry not as nice a view as on the picture I noticed earlier today ..........We watched a very nice film at the theatre there about the history of the city , had a snack and most of the ladies because of all the rain had to go and deal with the special WC for which you really needed a drivers licence and Japanese sign language ……….. but they were impeccably cleanWe than left to have a walk though the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse with all kind of small specialty storesEven upside down you can see the beautiful swords ........lolAfter a nice little lunch , with some nice Ramen Soup in a small port we than drove to the Hakodate Magistrate’ s Office the “ Bugyosho “ in the Goryokaku Park , we toured that building and learned about the special construction of it .After the Bugyosho we went to visit the gardens of the CatholicTrappistine Monasteries a Convent founded by 8 French nuns , most of the buildings were reconstructed in 1927 .After visiting a couple more small parks and the Old British Consulate it was time to get back to the VolendamDespite it raining for most of the day and very few people able to speak English we all had a fantastic day , and hardly noticed the rain anymore after a whileGreetings from Japan !Tony 😉Hope all of this comes out OK , my wifi was pretty wonky , dealing with upside down pictures and some that would not upload at all

We have had the pleasure to enter New York harbour a couple of times on a BHB . Here some pictures of arrival and departure while on the Eurodam in 2009 when we went from Quebec City to Ft Lauderdale .Have to show you this picture first !With a couple of friends from the Netherlands we explored NY on our ownCentral Park , Guggenheim Museum and Time Square .Carnival Miracle needed help from some tugs , The Eurodam did it all on her own even with a very strong wind when we left . Everything on the outside decks was tied down and we listed a lot because of the wind going out of Port . It was quite exciting .Tony 😄

Hello all , I am late to the party once again and was surprised there were no pictures yet of New Caledonia today .We were in Noumea , New Caledonia on a transition cruise from Auckland to Vancouver in April of 2013 on the Oosterdam and we had formed a nice small group tour with a local guide. We made a few stops in the town and than went to a large park and a had some nice refreshing coconuts at the guides home .Don't know why Martha was frowning , it was a nice little treat on a warm day .Very nice day was had by all and it was also really nice to learn about a different culture on these French South Pacific Islands. New Caledonian soils contain about 25 % of the worlds nickel .Next stop Suva, FijiTony 😄

During this time dealing with Covid-19 it is not easy for anybody , but I just wished people would just stop second guessing of what could “ Possibly “ be happening . Listen carefully to messages from the Cruise Companies and from Governments .I realize messages are scarce and come late but this time is difficult enough to look at posts like “ Volendam now History ? “ and opinions such as “ Looks like the Volendam might be headed to the scrap yard “ that does not help anybody .Let’s keep the roll calls and the conversations positive .Tony
