i just received an email from Fast Cover Travel "How to Use Travel Insurance".

Covid Cover provided after 72 hours.

I bought cover with this company when I needed evacuation cover and found them very helpful. I didn't have to claim.

    fastcover.com.au

The issue with Fast Cover is that since Covid the don’t do screening for pre-existing medical conditions. So if your condition is not one of the 43 automatically covered you can’t get any cover.

If it's any help, I use Qantas. Which resells NIB travel insurance, but I get points though Qantas.

They seem reasonably priced and not punitive with age.

My daughter used Travel Insurance Direct which resells NIB. They took 5 months to pay a medical claim.

My top cover fund covers ambulance. I just fill in the details on the bill and the fund pays. One time I had called the ambulance but it was determined I would not need a hospital trip and my fund still paid it. I don't know if my fund has conditions based on need or type of service.

Our top cover doesn’t cover patient transport from a public to private hospital or from hospital to home. Queensland residents get free ambulance cover Australia wide.

I applied for my Commonwealth Seniors Healthcare Card this morning, takes about 10 minutes on the Centrelink site. They want to know a bit and also require documentary evidence of income, so I scanned and uploaded the letter from State Super re super pension increase recently, due to CPI. If that is not good enough I will have to get onto State Super for something better to keep Centrelink happy.

You will need to get an your super fund to complete a Details of income stream product form SA330

Frustrating - then I found that hidden in their PDS there was a little item stating that they wouldn't cover anyone over 75 for cruising.  Always the fine print.  Went with NIB and got an annual policy so I don't need to worry about change of dates or itineraries for this summer.  Peace of mind.

    Is that Insure and Go?

Yep, normal. Courtesy goes a long way for everyone, regardless of mobility and age.

And it would be better nicer if they were limited to walking speed when aboard.

I was on a cruise where one of the entertainers was in a scooter. I moved aside for him when he got in the lift and asked his if he had enough room. Instead of thanking me he ignored me.

That's a reasonable price. However, credit card insurance is less - only the annual cost of the card. $87 in the case of ANZ platinum visa. Their policy also covers international for that price. Yes, there is an excess in the case of a claim (I think it is $200), but there is with most policies.

Is it difficult to get an ANZ platinum visa when you are a self funded retiree? How about pre existing medical condition coverage? I have quite a few.

When I tested positive and reported it on the Q'ld government website, a doctor from the virtual-COVID ward phoned me, and every day for the rest of the week, a nurse phoned to check how I was going. I had to report temp, oximeter reading and heart rate as well as answering a list of questions about symptoms. I had already borrowed my daughter's oximeter, but during the first call, the doctor said they would have one delivered to me if I didn't have one. She also checked that I had various medications. If not, they would have them delivered.

I passed the virus on to my husband ☹️ most likely before I knew I was positive, because we isolated within our home after my test. He also received the calls from the virtual-COVID ward. This service was fantastic. It gave us confidence that we were OK managing the way we were.

The key recommendations were - rest (listen to your body) and drink plenty of fluids. My daughter and I were out yesterday and someone she knew told her that he had COVID, but he got rid of it by running for extended periods. He had the theory that he "got rid of it out of his body". Wow! She told him that this approach was very dangerous for his heart.

That is excellent service. NSW residents don’t get anything like that.

One example was cover for car, which got more restrictive every year.  Last time I looked you couldn’t leave anything in a locked car!  Bit hard when you are travelling by car for five months!

I noticed in the fine print of the Insure and Go they only cover for around 15 days cat rental. That is no good if you are wanting to travel around Europe for a couple of months.
