Anyone arriving from Australia will be asked to self isolate too, only exceptions are people arriving from the Pacific Islands. I don’t see our mutual PMs talks regarding the treatment of NZ citizens has any relevance regarding corona virus travel bans. The issues are and should be unrelated.
We are booked to fly there for 2 weeks in May

The Radiance was due to depart for New Zealand today
-
There are reports of a lot of people on the Radiance today with chronic illnesses denied boarding
-
COVID-19 presents the most serious health risks to older individuals, the immunocompromised, and those with serious, underlying medical conditions. Therefore, effective Monday, March 16:
a. Boarding will be denied to any person age 70 or older, unless the guest provides written verificationfrom a qualified treating physician that certifies the person has no severe, chronic medical condition and is fit to travel.
b. Boarding will be denied to any person with a severe, chronic medical condition, including those specified by the CDC. Guests of all ages will be screened prior to boarding, regarding underlying health issues that may prevent them from sailing, i.e. chronic heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or cancer.

From what I understand ,once it’s pandemic all travel insurance is null and void.
I wonder if there is any possibility of getting a refund for the policy if that is the case?

I’ve read that since this Smart Traveller warning is in place you are not covered by travel insurance if you go ahead and travel

We were in the US in Oct/Nov last year and purchased an AT&T sim when we arrived. They set it up in the store and it worked well.

The casino, bars, shops, speciality restaurants and day spa will be losing a lot of money.

Actually the laundry situation is a bit odd. The ship is allowed to wash dirty towels used by passengers but not allowed to wash their dirty clothes. Very strange indeed.
This just proves that it’s not always a good idea to pack lightly is not always a good idea. I guess people wouldn’t be getting that dirty being confined to cabins. -

I’ve heard that Allianz and Covermore don’t cover Coronavirus so even if the cruise lines give refunds you are still out of pocket from flights and accommodation.

This works well. It’s a non aerosol .

wow--are there restrictions on water usage there? I guess wind would be bad, as far as spreading fires. Must be hard on people with lung/breathing issues.
We are in the Lower Mountains and are on Level 2 water restrictions. Smoke is very thick today.

We always told our banks (various and different cards) of our travel, they now do not require us to do this. I am not sure if this is just for us as we do travel a lot and have a history of having payments done through overseas companies but in any case it is good to know what may happen.
The Citibank Plus card doesn’t require notification. -
The Carnival Splendor now has the Music Manila Band so it wins my vote.

From what I am hearing second hand from my friends, they could have handled the communications a lot better on the ship. Especially why the route was chosen, no believes weather had any issue. But again was it crew incompetence or were their hands tied by corporate. And they also received no survey.
I’m fairly sure RCI were under instruction from the NZ government. I’ve been on the Ovation twice in the past 18 months including a relocation from Singapore with a delay ariving into Fremantle due to a medivac off the coast.
We couldn’t get the train into Perth due to the late arrival in port. It didn’t worry me that we were delayed even though it was my first trip to Perth as a passengers life is more important. I’m just happy to be on a cruise with no housework or cooking.

Thanks Pam, yes Allianz are about as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike. We used ANZ Platinum Credit Card insurance quite a few times in the past when QBE was the insurer, but once Allianz took over, end of story. Yes NRMA/Covermore were very good with our claim, mailed off the medical reports and claim forms, everything listed and 10 days later they paid out.
Allianz covered my sister recently for her pre existing conditions. They paid out when she and her husband became sick just before the trip and had to cancel and rebook accomodation.

I know people who were on the Ovation. They didn’t have any issues with the captain or crew. They were happy with the way things were handled due to the horrific incident.

Elorac,
we were treated like a nuisance. It was obvious that the officers in charge just were trying to find a way to get us off and out of the way with minimal effort. There was one announcement about red cross counsellors but in reality there was zero support for passengers by Royal Caribbean.
It might have not been the captains decision. I fairly sure that quite often especially in situations like this the captain has to follow orders from RCI head office in Miami. The captain would have been under enormous about of stress. We have previously cruised with the same captain.

My sister and her husband recently got sick and had to delay their overseas tripl They had to rebook flights and accommodation. Westpac Altitude Black CC insurance paid out without any issues. They also covered for my sisters pre existing conditions for $45.

A friend knows a family on the ship. The wife stayed onboard due to mobility problems. Her husband and one daughter are in a coma in 2 different hospitals and another daughter is missing.

HI Chiliburn. I booked directly. I naively thought it was the best/simplest/cheapest way to do it, and that they would honour their price drop online. I think . I have since learnt that a travel agent is better - but I had thought a travel agent would be worse for the cruise line, as they need to pay commission. Anyway, I guess I live and learn. You are a veteran cruiser it seems - 1400 posts!!!
Not all agents honour price drops.
