  1. This is awesome. I did something similar where I'm going to do 14 days/Panama Canal. After 200 in OBC it's like 300 something just for the taxes/port fees. Not bad!
  2. If you'd bought it in the $8 range a week or so ago you'd be up around 20% on it today.
  3. Unless I'm travelling someplace that's freezing where I'd need a lot of heavier clothing/boots/etc, or for a long enough time (more than a week), I usually just pack what I need into one of these and carry it myself. I think it's the max carry on size, it's virtually indestructible and it has wheels. 1510 Protector Carry-On Case | Pelican Official Store I've got several of them in different sizes for bigger or smaller trips. They aren't the lightest cases on the market but again, virtually indestructible. Once or twice I even shipped my own luggage rather than check it and travel with it since bag fees can be out of control on airlines and if you check around there are services that can get your bags delivered to a lot of places for roughly the same price as checking them at the airport. lugless is a good one. Just plan a few days in advance, drop them off and they're at your destination when you arrive.
  4. I did a few halloween cruises and the whole ship goes all out. Costume contests and everything. It's awesome.
  5. i did a halloween cruise once and the whole ship was decked out and they had costume contests and desert cakes shaped like ghosts and the whole thing was pretty awesome. they definitely go all out.
  6. Does pedialyte come in cans? I'm probably gonna need some.
  7. I haven't taken a cruise since October of 2013 and they've been sending offers for a while and recently they started sending these 3 with 200 deposit but 200 obc so you get the cruise for the taxes and port fees. I had 1 interior offer, 1 oceanview offer and 1 balcony offer all like that. They said I could use each offer twice. So I booked 8 days on the Glory this November and 14 days on the Glory to the Panama canal for December 2023. 138 in taxes for the 8 day and 363 in taxes for the 14 day I think. Not bad. Still trying to talk myself down from booking a 14 day to Alaska with the same deal.
  8. To add to this, if your birth certificate is unavailable, you can contact the records office of the county in which you were born and get a certified copy of your birth record which won't be the same as your birth certificate, (long form or otherwise), but will have a raised seal and will be considered an official record which will suffice to get you the passport. I'm in Alabama and got this done in about 15 minues for about $15 dollars at the dept of public health which keeps birth records for the county.
  9. Most post offices have passport services. Check at your local one and if they don't they can direct you to the nearest one that does. They don't create the passports, they just serve as a "acceptance agency" that can accept your documents and send them to the nearest regional passport office to have them processed. Some university campuses have acceptance offices as well, but a post office is usually pretty easy to get in and out of. They probably want you to make an appointment which you can do online. Be sure and bring all the required documents and be prepared to take a few minutes to fill out the form. You can find the form online at the state dept site in case you want to look it over and know what it asks, but the forms will be available at the post office as well. When you submit your application if you want to expedite it there are 2 things you can do. 1) pay an additional 60 bucks or so to expedite processing which shortens the processing time by a few weeks, and 2) you can submit your forms via express mail so they don't take as long to get to the passport office and begin processing. Both these things can be done on your own at the post office without the need to involve a non-govt 3rd party service, so save your $ and don't deal with the 3rd party services. The people at the post office will be able to help you and walk you through any questions about the form. The state dept site will list expected turnaround times for regular or expedited applications that start at 5 week and range maybe to 11 weeks or something. But they can sometimes be a bit faster. I renewed mine about a month ago and got it back in 15 days with expedited processing but without the express mail. So pretty quick. Pro tip: for another $30 I think, you can get a passport card in addition to the booklet. It's good for driving across into Mexico or Canada, and for a variety of seaports in the Carribean including Bermuda. It's also really nice to have as a backup ID in case you lose one or need to get a new license or show 2 forms of ID for something.
  10. Speedos and flip flops are acceptable any place, any time on any cruise.
  11. I ended up booking interior on the lido deck.
  12. Not sure but I have 2 sailings booked on this ship and hopefully someone can answer this for the both of us.
  13. I don't know but my crystal ball says that if we aren't already that we're going to be soon enough. When "housing market" is trending in my google search every day for a month that's gotta mean something. I've seen speculation of 8%+ mortage rates coming by 2024 but who's to say what might happen between now and then?
  14. I think I'm going to wait until that fed rate hike gets announced and maybe the whole market will take a little plunge for a day or so. Could be a chance to pick up some CCL for even less $ than what it would cost today.
  15. I still think we all need to consider whether tuxedo t-shirts might be the solution to all this.
  16. So there's a 14 day to Alaska in September of 2023 that I can book right now for 468 bucks that includes 200 in onboard credit. Offer expires August 31st. I've got an oceanview offer and an interior offer, but the oceanview is sold out under that offer. Interior has rooms as high as empress deck. Someone talk me down.
  17. So if I'm understanding this correctly, I can get 100 obc on a cruise under 14 days, and 250 obc on one 14 days or longer if I have 100 shares? https://www.carnivalcorp.com/static-files/50351a91-4dc0-4f6b-bfec-684647e6129f So if I have 2 cruises booked right now, one 8 day and another 14 day, then I'd get 350 obc between the 2? And I can get the 100 shares for under 1000 bucks right now. So assuming I'm going to spend that $ drinking and gambling anyway, I could just buy the shares and use the obc, and if the 1000 bucks depreciates by 350 bucks, then it's just like I had to pay for my own drinks?
  18. best move it to go to the roulette table and put it all on black
  19. patagonia capilene baselayers. feathered friends eos down jacket, melanzana hoodie, convertible lightweight pants (removable legs to turn them to shorts), lightweight wicking material shirts, lots of socks.
  20. Took a honda hrv, which is basically a jacked up honda fit made into a tiny suv. A bit smaller than the crv. I we came in and went down those switchbacks at the beginning and killed some time along the way and ended up coming out of the other side of the park.
  21. Canyonlands may be one of the most underrated of the national parks. I drove that Shafer Trail there last year. Took all day but what an amazing ride.
  22. It'll take me a few days to rationalize doing that. These offers are good until August 5th. My birthday is the 7th, so there's a strong possibility that I twist my brain into considering it a birthday gift to myself and book a 3rd. The Alaska and Hawaii ones are really compelling, because they're generally more expensive, (and therefore make the offer a better value) and a bit longer and because those are 2 of maybe about 9 states that I've yet to visit, and visiting them via a cruise would be a great way to do it. But...those generally leave from ports on the west coast, which would require airfare etc. I've got some friends that live in south Florida and Jacksonville so I can park for free and crash the night before at those ports. And I can drive to Mobile or New Orleans in no time. Charleston isn't too far, and Houston is a little farther, but I could crash with friends and park for free there. I'll just let all this slosh around in my head for a few days and see what happens. I think you guys are right about the prices going back up. Less restrictions = more bookings. More bookings = change in supply/demand. I'm going to log off the carnival site and watch tv or something for a while lol.
