  1. You can just buy the future cruise credits and pick your cruise later to get your onboard credit.I have been on over 40 Princess cruises and have never gone past the future cruise consultants office and not seen a crowd of people waiting to talk to the consultant.I fill out a paper request and the credits show up in my account.

  2. We are taking a short post cruise trip from Dublin to Westport after a two day stay in Dublin. As it is my first driving experience in Ireland,I was wondering if it would be better to pick up the rental car in central Dublin or to take a taxi back to the airport to pick up the rental.i assume that the driving in Dublin might be hectic and jumping on the expressway by the airport might be easier.Any input would be appreciated.

I have included a photo of the ships officers. If you can’t read it let me know and I will type out their names.

Havent been to MUTS due to the weather but they have shown The Greatest Showman and Mama Mia here we go again so far. This afternoon is Eddie the eagle but that may be an inside venue. I will try to photograph the patters later. I will also ask about the menu. I think they are still the old ones as I have seen them posted online. I will try to find out when the new ones will start.

    Day 2 cont.

Still having rough seas. Ate lunch twice lol. First at the buffet and then at the grill. Then I had dessert at the international cafe. Hey, don’t judge, it’s vacation lol. But I do try to take the stairs and since we are in an aft cabin, we are doing a TON of walking.

We missed the comedian Steve. Went at 740 for the 8pm show and there was not one open seat!!! My husband and I ended up playing trivia where I did the worst I have ever done....3 out of 10 😳. Let’s chalk that up to not feeling well. Stopped at the buffet and my husband got some food and I got a slice of pizza. I must say Carnival has better pizza imo.

We we went to bed at 9 and I fell asleep right away. The bedding is sooo comfy I am going to order it when I get home.

    Day 3:

calm seas and sun at last! Feeling much better today. The best place to eat is to go to the small area behind Horizon court at the aft. It is quiet and beautiful!!! After breakfast we played some shuffleboard and then sat at the retreat area. At 10 we went to our cruise critic meet and greet and got some neat medallion holders.

Now at the runway fashion show. Will update later and try to add more pictures.

    Thanks for the info!

    Getting to the port:

Palm Beach County was pounded with torrential downpours. On our way to Port Everglades, we passed 10 accidents on a 25 mile stretch of I95. Hopefully no one was hurt to badly. We made it to Park N Go in one piece.

    Embarkation:

This was the best we have ever experienced. We got to the terminal at 1045. We were ocean ready (but had to pick up medallions at the desk) so we were sent right to priority check in. We were handed our cards and medallions and sent right on board. We were on the lido deck by 1115.

Just a bit of background. My husband and I  are Platinum (well, he made it 🙂) and are late 40s and early 50s. Kids stayed home this trip (Did you hear that? I was shouting with joy). This is a much needed alone time trip.

We ate ate on the Lido deck. Definitely look at the Horizon Court and Bistro before you decide what to eat. Every time we turned a corner there was even more food we wanted to try. Not enough room in our bellies to eat it all.

After eating we we went to our cabin which was ready at 12. Yay! We have an aft balcony and it is absolutely the nicest cabin we have had. Didn’t notice a soot problem. This cabin has the connecting door open and it turns into an extended balcony as there is no room there. I’ll post pictures at the end. Enough room for the two of us. Cabin is B738.

We we went to the Internet cafe to get unlimited internet. For platinum members it is like 52.40. Once I figured out how to get on it works quite well. Faster than my internet at home. (If switching devices, you have to go to logout.com and login.com on new device).

Sail away was moved to the Piazza on deck 5 because of the weather. Some great dancers were there.

We actually skipped the MDR for the first time in many years to eat at the buffet. They had the Mongolian Wok which is my husbands favorite. Thank goodness we went because the next time they are having it is 2nd formal night and he wants the lobster in the MDR. (1st seating in Allegro MDR is 5:30)

We saw Born to Dance in the Princess Theater. At 7:30 the theater was packed!!! My husband didn’t like it because he didn’t know any of the songs/shows but I enjoyed it. I must say the average age is retirement age, maybe mid 60s or 70s. Works for me as there are no drunk idiots running around (I have been on one too many carnival 3 day cruises). I love the sedate polite people here.

The staff has has been wonderful, all smiling and helpful.

    Day 2

weather still overcast and we made it to Princess Cay but the captain decided not to stay for passenger safety. 2 meter swells and 50 knot winds. Boat is rocking!! Ok with me. Hubby and I hit the hot tub and met people from Connecticut and Ohio.

Will br going to lunch and will post more later. Let me know if you have questions while I am onboard.

Can I ask who the Captain and Hotel General Manager are? Thanks!

  5. Absolutely nothing on this menu interests me and I could eat Italian for every meal. Can't they include a steak, like the last menu.It seems that Princess has gotten quite esoteric with the dinner menus, although lunch is still fine.We eat in the buffet or the Crown Grill about half of the time due to the wild stuff that is on the dinner menus.

  6. While on Crown doing the TA in November, the MDR had the Castiglioni Chianti paired with the entrees on the menu the first night of the cruise. As I always order that wine, I did so as usual. The waiter returned and told me that they were out of the wine that they were advertising on the menu and that he would replace it with the Ruffino. He then said that it would be $15 more than the wine ordered.I suggested that since they were advertising a wine they did not have that they should honor the price of the lesser priced wine.He said that was impossible and summoned a head waiter when I protested. The head waiter also said the same thing and I suggested that they figure out a solution.Eventually they realized that the only fair way to handle this was to honor the lower price.I did buy numerous bottles of more expensive wine over the course of the cruise as the Ruffino was not to my liking. It baffles me that a large companies would alienate they customers over such small issues when the cost to them is minimal.I did check my local liquor store at home and they sell the Ruffino for $9.99 a bottle and Princess was over $50 for the same exact bottle.

A canapé menu will be delivered to you each day for the following evening.

You get to select up to 6.

After about two nights we found the joy was gone.

    Pretty much, we’ll, nothing.

    YMMV

Last month,on Crown, there were only four on the plate.

  8. Hello,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread and with yet another insurance question. Just looked up insuremytripdotcom and found three flavors of Geo-Blue, voyager essential, trekker essential and trekker choice, with the last two being multi-trip coverage and 70 day max per trip. Are these two the annual policy that you spoke of? I have Blue Cross HMO commercial plan (employer sponsored) that offers emergency medical as primary but I would have to call a global assistance number first in the event of an emergency. The Geo-Blues are secondary and direct pay/billing. Does it mean no reimbursement is involved?

Thanks very much in advance for any clarification and sharing your experience.

The Voyager plans are single trip plans and the Trekker plans are annual plans that cover all your trips with the Essential covering up to $250,000 Med and $500,000 of evacuation and the Choice covering $50,000 of Med and $250,000 of evacuation. These plans are throughly explained on my business website that should be in my signature. Our actual cost was $390 per year for the higher plan.I can’t advise you how the coverage dovetails with an HMO without reviewing your specific plan.I have been an insurance broker for 43 years but things change so often Ithat I can’t give you a specific answer.Good Luck,John

  9. HAL cruisers are an interesting lot (we are also in that crowd). Consider that many of these folks were darn near up in arms when HAL said they were discontinuing the Medallion program (HAL relented and continues that program until this day). DW and I were somewhat shocked when a lovely lady told us that "I earned that Medallion and intend to get my next one." That particular lady was actually wearing her bronze and silver Medallions around her neck on the day of the Mariner's luncheon. Even HAL management realized it could get UGLY if they came between those folks and their precious piece of tin.

I suspect that some of those same folks could care less about the other benefits.

But we do really like the free laundry (especially important on the really long cruises) and the 50% the wine packages (although the wines on the package are far from the best). The "Priority" stuff is worthless on many cruises because there are so many 4/5 Star Mariners (if everyone gets priority nobody gets priority). Where HAL really falls short is with their internet program. Most of the competition gives free internet to its higher level loyalty folks but HAL only gives a small discount to 5 Star Mariners. When we cruise on Princess we now get free unlimited high speed internet (given to Platinum and Elite). On Celebrity we get several hundred free minutes and its the same on most other lines where we have some Loyalty status. HAL also falls down when it comes to social gatherings for Loyalty folks. On one 60+ day cruise we had a single function for 4/5 Star Mariners. On Celebrity we have a cocktail party (with free drinks) every day! On Princess they also have daily cocktail parties although drink prices are only slightly reduced...and not free. RCI has their Diamond and Concierge Lounges with free cocktail hours on a daily basis...plus other goodies. Even MSC beats HAL by providing a real 5% discount off the cruise price for those qualifying for various Loyalty Programs.

One of our favorite cruise agents actually believes that HAL penalizes their most Loyal cruisers by sometimes offering special deals and upgrades to newer cruisers that are seldom given to the most loyal cruisers. We are not sure if this is really true...but have also heard this from another travel agent.

    Hank

I have been Elite on Princess for 10 years and the unlimited internet was discontinued many years ago and the Platinum and Elites get a specific # of minutes depending on the length of the voyage.I did receive unlimited internet last year on the Regal as they were installing Ocean Medallion but I understand that that was a temporary situation.
  10. YES; we leave the Auto Grats on our bill and they deserve it. We have only felt that we received superior service one time from our steward and left him what we thought was appropriate in an envelope with his name on it. We thought he was so amazing! However, I am wondering what others tip when thanking their steward.

    For a 7 night cruise?

    For a 10 night cruise?

We leave on a 7 night East Coast in a few days on the Regal!!! Very excited to be on

this ship for the first time!

    Thanks so much.

    I leave $100 per 7 day cruise.

  11. Can anyone tell me what is better option on these two rooms Rear Corner Aft or mini suite. We are currently booked in C753 rear corner aft room but notices that mini suites are actually cheaper. Any pros and cons to either?

I think it depends on the destination and # of sea days.We have had both C752 and C753 on grand class ships, on numerous occasions and are booked in C753 on Crown for the crossing on 11/3.I did notice that some of the minis were being priced at the same rate as the premium balcony, but with so many sea days and the possibility of weather issues,we will stick with the private, windless balcony on the stern.
