Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We had a great vacation on the Vista. However, I have to say that I didn't love the ship either. The atrium was underwhelming and I thought that the layout was confusing and cramped. It needs a dry dock to freshen it up and to fix the propulsion issues. We made all of our ports (April 2023) but we only stayed for a few hours at each one; the last tender from Grand Cayman was at 1:15 pm - I would have preferred more time at each port. However, the staff was friendly and incredibly hard-working. The food was decent - the specialty restaurants were very good and the MDR was a little disappointing but it's hard to complain about being served a 3 course meal every night. Our family had a great vacation and for the price point, we were very pleased with our experience.
  2. We loved Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. We took the public bus, which was very easy to find (look for the library, it's about 2 blocks from the entrance of the cruise port). $2.50 per person and there was a mix of tourists and locals on it. We did not rent beach chairs, just sat on the sand. It was very crowded, but that did not spoil our experience as the water is so beautiful, warm, and clear, the sand is soft and not hot. There are bathrooms - I only went to the single stall restroom - I know there was another building but I didn't go there. We had a great day in Grand Cayman and would do it again without hesitation.
  3. We just got off of the Vista and were in a Suite. They had all of the priority debarkation people go to the main auditorium, but not the Platinum and Diamond guests - they were somewhere else and got off first. If you were carrying your luggage off of the ship yourself, you lined up your luggage according to when you got there - so we were in Group 5 of maybe 8. They let the Platinum and Diamond guests off first, and then called each Group sequentially. Once they started letting people off of the ship, we were off of the ship and through customs within 20-30 minutes and in our Uber by 9:10 am. But, I agree with others, you shouldn't order the Uber until you are out of customs.
  4. Ship - Vista Deck - 2 Stateroom # - 2410 Stateroom Category – Suite Starboard or Port Side - Starboard Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – No, we were under the galley and there was a lot of banging in the middle of the night. I had earplugs in so I was able to sleep mostly, but my husband didn't. Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No Balcony View - Great view Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Cove balcony with 4 chairs and 2 side tables Was wind a problem? - No If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - n/a Any specific problems with this cabin? - The galley noise was the biggest issue, though my kids who were staying in the room as well said they didn't hear it. It may have just been over our bed. Any other comments? - This was a Family Harbor cabin and we were right across from the Family Harbor area which was very convenient for ice/water and snacks. Having 2 different bathrooms were nice, but would have appreciated two toilets instead of two showers.
  5. We just got back from Cozumel and I wanted to put a plug in for Eagle Ray Divers snorkeling tour. My family of five had a private tour where they took us to three different reefs. All snorkel equipment was provided, as well as a light lunch and beverages. Even though we had a short amount of time in Cozumel (got there at 10:15 am and had to be back on the ship by 3:30 pm), our team did a great job of giving us a great snorkel tour and making sure we were finished in time to not miss the boat. The marina they dock out of is close enough to the cruise ship terminal that we were able to walk (about 20 minutes). We paid $400 for our family of five (one with special needs, which they happily accommodated) for a 3.5 hour tour.
  6. I don't think it's twice as much cleaning, but our suite has 2 bathrooms, for what it's worth.
  7. Thanks @RCmommy! We are on the Vista in April and with all of the negative posts on here about the Vista I was starting to be a bit worried. Did you experience any of the propulsion issues? Did you make it back to Galveston on time?
  8. Can I ask how you found the cooking class? We are on the Vista in April and I'm not sure where to see that information. Thanks!
