  1. If keeping the meds cool is very important then consider talking a frio bag with you- we always take one to any hot (or very cold places to stop freezing- used in the atric) in case there is a power cut and the fridges stop working (esp relavent on a cruise or in developing countries. My daughter is talking hers camping next week.

Frio bags are made of a gel that is activated by soaking on cool water - the slow evaporation of this gels keeps the contents cool.-

  2. I just priced up renting one for 2 future holidays 14nights in Florida then 12 nights on a med cruise. In the end I have just opted to buy a second hand one (6 months old) for £200leas than the cost of both rentals (thus I will have it for every holiday from now on. I will also be able to go with my husband when he walks the dog. :). The airlines have said that they can take them free of charge.

  3. Believe the legal drinking age on RC ships is 21. You could find yourself in trouble for providing "shots" to the 18-year-old - would suggest checking out further before doing this.

I have been told 18 is fine in the med. It is the legal drinking age for us and 2 yrs above that of most other EU countries. She may not even want any - but as it is her 18th present and her sisters graduation present I want to at least offer her a few cocktails.

I think fair is fair - they have been brought up never to drink until legal and not to try it without us about (once over 18) - so (as long as we get to cruise 2015 with her end upheld) then its my turn to hold up my end of the deal and allow her a few nice drinks- if the ship say no (we will check first) then that is fine - rules are rules- and instead she will be treated to a few in port (one a day of course:p)

  4. We are thinking of getting dd's the replenish package- Am I correct on thinking that this includes non alcoholic cocktails. How much will it cost dd'd to add a shot of Rum to these. I do not want to get them the alcohol package as the youngest will have only just turned 18 so I will only be allowing one alcoholic drink a day. The eldest will probably have 3 (2 cocktails and one wine at most) is it worth her while paying to upgrade to alcohol one or just paying the difference to add a shot of rum to the alcohol free colada. My DH and I will be getting the basic alcohol package so the 2 bottle of wine we take on board will do her for wine at dinner (most of 12 night cruise) without her having to buy any. Thus she will probably only adding 2-3 shots a day worth of extra money over the replenish package. Can she take her filled wine glass to the mdr.

Also we are doing the med 12 cruise which is port intensive can we start the packages on day 5 ahead of the 2 sea days

  5. I've had Gluten Free alternative offered o request; you could try asking for something specific.... give them sufficient warning though....

Hi how much warning re the gluten free requirements did you give them.

Also can you tell me how you rate the MDR and the buffet for gluten free food. We have booked our first RCI cruise and I am hoping for tasty food, especially in the MDR, that is served with sauces/dressing with it- I hate when a restaurant says yes they will do it gluten free and what mean is they will cook a plain piece of chicken/meat instead lol

  6. My 15 yr old did not require any ID for - cayman, roatan, belize and mexico.

I forgot my drivers licence on my last cruise and I got a photo copy of my passport at the service desk on the ship and was able to just use that- barbados, st kitts, st lucia, st thomas & st martin. In fact in st thomas the gate guard just said that's a good idea a photo copy. I knew if there was an issue my DH could go on board and get my passport and bring it to me.

  7. I've booked the sale as well for august 15 - so i will post on here if I have any issues not being a US citizen (as other have mentioned might happen) I am hoping to find out if other uk cruisers have any problems with it before we are in a penalty period so that I can cancel if need be.

  8. be aware that in Europe most airline only allow 1 carry on - I have even seen them make someone put their Kindle in the one bag as carrying it separate was not allowed. You are not even allowed to have a large travel wallet/ purse separately.

My dd and I managed 14 nights with our 2 carry ons including taking beach towels/ towels/ and bedding to our caravan in France.

Tip - dress like a weeble- take a fold up extra bag then strip off the layers when you are on the plane - We filled 2 bags with our excess cloths and the electronic gadgets/charges we had stuffed in the pockets of each layer (we would have had to pay an additional $112 per checked in bag - which was more than the seat cost).

  9. I have family in cayman so have been a few times, I also have MS and swam with the stingrays before I got ill- getting back out the water can be a bit tricky. Now I would need to make sure that any boat we booked had an actual stairway info the water and not just a ladder. There are a few coves that are very good for snorkeling if you like that (I can get the names if your interested)- also

Rum point has a nice shallow beach easy to get in.out the water and some OK snorkeling under the jetty - but some large fish are there - my youngest (at 7) got spooked when a 5ft Snook swam past her - but it is quite a distance from the port so I would only do a trip there on a tour.

I would avoid the turtle farm- we found it an awful place and will never go back.

Hell is an unusual place to visit (just to say you have been) probably on some of the tours that the ship do may be combined with stingrays or Rum point

Nice relaxing bar/cafe is at Kebbo (or Kybo- I will check)- it has a beach area and marina area.

  10. Just to let you all know that I chose the Vision in the end-

Main reason was the food, the more recent reviews for the Spirit food were to too poor to ignore and food is important to us. I also looked up some you tube footage of the main meals and they did not look that great for the spirit when compared with the meals I looked for the vision. On top of the the MDR menus are labeled for gluten which will make ordering easier for me. The final decider was the RCI sale as both cruises became almost the same price but if we chose the spirit we would also probably booked the dining pack which would have added to the cost.

We will miss Venice and Istanbul - but I have medical issues so to to be honest some extra sea days will probably help me not over do things- We are from the UK so we can do these ports again in another cruise - but unfortunately probably wont get the chance to do them with our girls- This was probably our last big holiday together as it was for my eldest (22) graduation and youngest 18th. So I can imagine that my eldest will probably not want to use up her few weeks holiday once she starts working with us :(

  11. I love Venice- in fact I could say its one of my favorite places on earth- But - the food there is medicare at best and woeful in-comparison to any other Italian place I have been. Especially if you plan to eat in a touristy area with a canal view. My family live in Italy near the lakes and before my first visit to Venice for 5 days they warned me how poor the food was- I didn't believe them- I do now. If you plan to eat dinner there I would use trip adviser to find an off the beaten track back street local place - that is your best (only chance ) for some really nice Italian food.

  12. It was the vision of Aug 2015 in an OV room for 4 that I priced up and the US deal was over £800 cheaper. uk £3928 and the US was $5667 with OBC OF $525 = base cost of $5142 about £3116 on the exchange I have charged my fairfx at to pay. Not to be sniffed at - that should cover our bar and some diy trips.

  13. Really encourage you to come over to the Disable Forum now and not wait. There are many very nice people on this forum that have experience with the ports on your itinerary, me included . This is a great forum and so much helpful information . Please consider http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190

For example I did a search on the Disable Forum for Rome and Pompeii that you might want to check out. Refer to the links below . You can do a search for the other ports as well.

    Pompeii http://boards.cruisecritic.com/search.php?searchid=50401184

    Rome http://boards.cruisecritic.com/search.php?searchid=50401191

Thanks for the invite I will go on there in the next few days- I just wanted to get all the ship stuff sorted today and then I will get over to that forum - I know how useful they can be - the disney one really helped us, as that was the first holiday I went on after taking ill.

  14. If you are referring to the boxed space across the hall ( not bedside) from the cabin, that is the service area for the cabin attendants. You will hardly notice any noise since it is not directly besides/adjacent to 2602. During the night while you're sleeping it's generally not being used.

Yes you can request to be moved to another cabin in the same category and not incur a cost increase. However it's important to note that Accessible cabins are often booked a year or more in advance due to the limited amount. Additionally you stated in another post that you have 4 people in the cabin. There are only 2 OV Accessible Cabins on Vision class ships 2602 and 2102 that can accommodate 4 people so the other may already be booked.

I noticed that you have not return to your post titled "? for wheelchair/scooter users on med cruises " Thought perhaps you may not have been able to locate it since it now appears on page 7 of this forum . Here's the link http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2036541

Thanks for that- I assumed that all the accessible rooms would take 4 as they are the same size- I think its easiest just to stay put. I was most worried about the square box inside the stair/lift area as I have never seen that on plans before.

I did have a look at the replies on the scooter thread but have been doing some research into an alternate plan for the ports. When I get a new hopefully more manageable plan together I was going to post back on to see what those with more experience than me thought about it. I am glad I asked it would have been a bit foolish to have hired the scooter and then not been able to use it most places :o

  15. I booked cabin 2602 on the vision of the sees. On the deck plans there is a blanked out cabin size gap opposite the cabin also there is an area that is boxed of in the stairway beside the cabin. Does anyone know what these are. Has anyone stayed or near this cabin or the one above on deck 3. Really worried I have made a mistake booking this room.

If people think there is an issue can I call my TA to move cabin- is that allowed (first TA booking and first cruise with RCI).
