  1. My vote is the Reflection. Sailed Reflection in the Caribbean January 2013 and we will be back on her this Friday in the Mediterranean. We are loyal RC cruisers but the First X was Reflection and she is fantastic!

With that said, my brother in law sailed Summit to Bermuda this past summer and liked her. There is nothing wrong with SJ, we have sailed from there many times.

To us we have been fortunate to be in the islands a lot so it is about the ship to us.

Either way you will have a great time! :)

  2. We had 9316 - Haven Aft Penthouse - on the Breakaway and never felt that "not being in the Haven" was ever an issue. We love the aft and the views - those cabins (and the Haven perks) just elevate it to a whole other level! Wouldn't trade the view - or that balcony - for anything.

Here is a link to my fb photos of the cabin. You do not need a fb account to see the photos.

Actually we enjoyed the walk to the Haven because we got to see more of the ship that way. We were in the Haven Courtyard on the Epic (our first cruise with NCL) an never left - except for dinner and the shows. So am and sure there are things on that ship we didn't even know we missed!

We love that aft location SO much we have the same cabin (H6) booked for the Getaway and the Escape. ;) :D

Thanks for the pics! Can't wait to experience the suite and ship!

  3. Willowvacay, Thank you for the review!

We will be sailing on the Getaway January 31st 2015 (Super Bowl Weekend), we have the Aft Penthouse Suite 12904. :D I know it is not in the Haven but we still have the perks. I have read so much about the Aft Suite and Haven we just had to do it. We will be first time NCL cruisers always RCL or X.

When you went to the Magic show the first night were you not escorted down since you were in HAVEN? That is one show I do not want to miss.

Also, I laughed out loud with your Abso-freaking- lutely statement! :p That just put the final endorsement on sailing in Haven. We always sail in suites but not Haven style.

Thanks again for the review, thoughts, comments and observations. :)

  4. Hi all,

Was amazed/excited to see that my suite guarantee room assignment is a celebrity suite! The site isn't really that great at mentioning the perks as I know I've seen some mentioned on the boards that aren't on the site, but I'm not sure what all is included. If you guys would let me know that would be great! thanks.

Congratulations! We booked a suite guarantee for our Reflection cruise next week. We were upgraded from the Auqua suite to the CS! :)

So when we get back from our Mediterranean Cruise I will be posting a review and include the CS perks and accommodations. ;)

  5. We recently booked the 5 dinner package online for our cruise in October.

The saving was 38%, so we feel that we've got a good deal :D

    Lou

We looked into the 5 dinner package for our Med trip next week on Reflection and X picks your first night restaurant and then you take a chance that the time and the restaurant you want is available for when you want it. You can't select where you want to dine until you are on the ship.

The savings are nice but I like to know what I have and assured of the arrangements. Too much to chance. ;)

  6. I didn't write a review, we did like the Getaway and loved The Haven. We're more traditional cruiser's and didn't care for the "Freestyle" concept. Great for most but not us. Sailed a ton with NCL prior to "Freestyle" and enjoyed cruising with them. We absolutely loved The Reflection. Maybe I'm just getting old but the layed back atmosphere, great service and awesome food won us over. With that said, we'll see if Reflection can deliver again. I'm thinking she will..:D

Thanks for the info and view point. We are more traditional also on the dining, but will see what NCL offers. I hear the Haven dining area is great.

Will post when we return on the return to Reflection! :D

  7. Been cruising for a while and are taking our 2nd Celebrity cruise in January. Did Reflection eastern in March 2013 and will be doing Reflection western on January 17th. Loved that ship. Just did NCL Getaway in June. Stayed in The Haven. Enjoyed it, but we liked The Reflection more.

Did you write a review of your Getaway cruise? We are sailing on Getaway in the Haven January 31st 2015. We booked the aft Penthouse suite on deck 12. This will be our first NCL cruise. As stated in lower post we sailed Reflection in 2013 and back next week on her.

    Thanks

  8. We sailed Reflection in January 2013, it was the 4th loop of the Caribbean she made after coming to the Caribbean. We usually cruise RCC the sister company.

Reflection is a fantastic ship, so much so we are sailing her again September 5th 2014 on an Eastern Mediterranean cruise. Reflection was our first Celebrity sailing. It is a bit more quite than other ships but the crew is fantastic. You have to enjoy the Lawn Grill, Sunset bar, martini bar and all the specialty restaurants. We have been to the islands so many times we just stay on the ship.

We are sailing on the Getaway January 31st 2015 and will be our first NCL sailing. First are so much fun. :D

If you have any specific questions let me know. Enjoy the cruise! :)

  9. WE booked a guarantee Aqua Suite on our up coming Eastern Mediterranean Reflection cruise and was upgraded two days later to the Celebrity suite! :)

I never booked a guarantee (used TA) because I want to know what I am getting but the way the TA explained it I was going to at least get what I booked. :D, so roll the dice. Glad we did! We are Diamond with RCC and second time sailing X. Actually second time Reflection. Had Aqua Suite first sailing.

I think the one post is correct, they can sell the Aqua suite better than the CS, so move the Aqua Suite up and rebook the Aqua suite. When I looked at the price the CS was $3,000 more than I paid for the guarantee!! Cha Ching :D

  10. Kteacher:

Last time on Reflection they had the Lawn Series, that is where they had music and wine on the lawn at night. Was that offered on your cruise?

Also you said that you docked at Messina at 10 AM. Were you scheduled to arrive at 7 AM as we are and the ship was just late? We have a tour guide meeting us at 9 AM.

    Thanks for all the help!

Ok I have my ports mixed up! :p We dock at 10 AM also. ;)

  12. The only port we tendered was Santorini, and our excursion took us first to what

I think is called the "new port", where the high speed ferries dock. The concierge

in Michael's had a checklist of suite passengers so he could make sure they

had early tender tickets if they wanted them.

I think there were 4 ships in port that day, so it was extremely crowded. We

did the Oia, winery, and Fira excursion. It was very rushed and crowded in

each stop, but the wine was good :). The excursion ended in Fira, and we

really only had enough time to walk from where the bus dropped us off

to where the long line was for the cable cars. The ship arrived at 7:00 a.m., and

the last tender was at 5:15. It took us about 45 minutes to get from the end of

the cable car line to the ship tender line, so if there are a lot of ships in

    port give yourself enough time.

There was a wine and cheese picnic with a Beatles tribute on the lawn on deck

15 at 5:30. I was really glad we decided to stop by. The guitarist was excellent,

and it was a beautiful way to sail away from Santorini.

This was also the night we had been invited by the concierge to Indulgence, so we

just ordered chicken Caesar salads in the dining room. Our waiter was actually

going to recommend that we choose from the right side of the menu that night.

The salads were just okay-mine was drenched in dressing, and I bit into a piece

of partially cooked chicken, so didn't eat much.

The showtimes were 7:15 and 9:15, and featured a violinist, Rafael. We didn't

make it to the show, instead spending time with friends we'd made in Michael's

    Club before dinner.

Indulgence was advertised as 39.00 p.p., and was held in the Ensemble lounge

at 10:30 p.m. We attended as guests of the concierge. The set up was a little

awkward as there were people going to and from the specialty restaurants

the entire time. We were given pins to wear so that waitstaff knew who were

there for Indulgence. There were trays of drinks passed-rum cocktail, wine,

champagne, and two specialty drinks-banana creme pie, and drunken donut.

The appetizers that were passed were sushi, angus beef sliders, meatballs-all

from Qsine I think, and plentiful as well as good. Don't want to give too much

away, but it was a fun event.

Thanks Kteacher, luckily we are the only ship in that day. Tender should not be that bad. :)

  13. Thanks for posting, we are leaving on 9/5/2014 and can't wait. We also booked the CS accommidations. We were told that the two speacility dinners that come with booking the suite had to be made once you were onboard. Were you able to book them ahead of time?

Looking forward to Michaels also. Were you able to grab a bottle of water in Michaels? Like to have one back in the suite at night.

Looking forward to more postings of the crusies and your experience. By the way did you ever try to go to Blu for dinner? When we were last on Reflection we were Auqa so it was our MDR, but suite guest were able to be seated once the Auqua people were sat. They never seemed to have an issue getting in. If you are a late eater like us it works best. The food was great! :)

  14. Make sure you have plenty of room on your SD card. I easily burned 400 - 500 pictures on that route.

Actually bought 10 4GB SD cards off eBay. One for every port and more. Each card holds 1,100 pictures. Got the idea from a friend who did a Med cruise last year.

    10 cards were $51.90, $5 a card for memories!

  15. The keyhole is part of the gate to the Headquarters of the Knights of Malta, an order with a long history worth reading about.

It is located on the Aventine Hill, address is via di S. Sabina. You can't actually go in, just look through the keyhole. Frankly, I don't get the appeal, but lots of people do it just to snap a photo, I guess.

Here is some more info: http://www.reidsitaly.com/destinations/lazio/rome/sights/knights_malta.html

(I suspect most people get dropped off there for a photo stop on a private tour and don't really know where they are, hence the lack of description....)

Cruisemom42 is so correct! We were on a private tour, the driver and guide took us there to see it. Could not tell you where we were. :p There were some guards in the area but no problem. It is nice to see and take the picture. Rome is a fantastic place to visit. I would suggest a private tour, they really know how to show the city.

If you are going to the Vatican I strongly suggest a guide. We were picked up at 9 AM and drove past a "looooong" line of people wanting to get in, the guide tapped the guards hand, the ropes opened up and we walked in with our guide. Nice!

  16. Ok first, sorry for starting a new thread but I searched and could not find anything specific to this question. Have read great things about both places.

Will be Docking in Messina in September, I have contacted Rome in limo for a day tour of the Amalfi coast. We understand the beauty of the coast and also how nice Capri is. We have been to Italy before but Northern and this is our first Mediterranean cruise.

For those that have been to Naples, what would be your choice, Amalfi Coast tour or Capri if you had to select one? This will not be our last visit to the region. The help and guidance would be so appreciated!
