  1. We love SB and think of it as our preferred line and are booked on a Grand Voyage this year. However last year we sampled SS on the Moon and were knocked out by the dining and bar options, as well as the elegance of the ship. We are returning to SS on the Ray in December and look forward to the dining options (not La Dame, where the upcharge is ridiculous). I also note that we have been victimized by a Silversea last-minute cancellation due to a corporate charter. I try to ignore that bad experience.
  2. IMHO Seabourn is a better buy than Cunard Princess Grill. But the experiences are very different because of the size of the ship and what can be offered. Figure out what is best for you.
  3. I wear black blazer, black slacks, white shirt. It gets me into all the venues on Cunard and gives me some clothes I can wear while traveling. Versatile and compliant.
  4. IMHO, Cunard is not a great choice for teens, unless they are very mature and like to hang out with adults. There are a couple of things for them to get involved in: At night, teens seem to love the disco. And there are often movies to see. Otherwise, exercise in the fitness center, a dip in the pool, or a long walk on the promenade. That's about it.
  5. And I agree as well. The complimentary wines are certainly drinkable, buvable. And I have enjoyed a number of them with no complaints. But they are generally not "fine" wines. For a fine wine, one needs to make a purchase.
  6. Wow! All this conflicting information is amazing!
  7. If you are looking for an apartment hotel with a little kitchen, Capri by Fraser provided an excellent experience for us this past September.
  8. As to the complimentary spirits, we have never been disappointed with what was available at the well-stocked bars. They do not carry every brand that you might find at a big liquor store, but they do have a number of excellent options for each type of spirit. Bottoms up!
  9. Gypsyjennifer1: Please let me add my own personal thanks to those of others. I have been fascinated by this story and would not have learned much without your thoughtful postings. I am truly sorry for your disappointments with this cruise as well as anxiety over the dangerous situation in the Middle East. You do have our appreciation for your efforts as a Star Reporter!
  10. I am following this tread with great interest.
  11. We like Room2 very much and have stayed there twice. It's a short walk to the main street (high street) in downtown Southampton where there are good dining options and stores to buy what you might need on board the ship.
  12. I can answer a couple of your questions. You can bring cans of soda on board, if you don't mind managing the weight in your bag. You can bring them on board in each port. Charges on board arein US Dollars.
  13. Did you enjoy the flambeed granola for breakfast?
  14. Smart move. I would pay twice that for such service.
  15. We recently disembarked from a re-positioning on another line. While it was sad to leave the ship, departure day was relaxing. A peaceful breakfast, a quiet wait for our time of departure, and we strolled off the ship after a departure handshake from the Cruise Director and Captain,. Our luggage was waiting for us. We passed through Miami immigration in 2 minutes and we were quickly into a cab riding to the airport.
  16. We are on the 2024 Grand Voyage with includes multiple ports in Turkey, none of which have been cancelled, yet. However 2 ports in Israel were cancelled a while ago.
  17. It's 9:16 AM, we are in our suite enjoying room service breakfast that includes one of my favorite Seabourn pleasures, fresh-squeezed orange juice! (Maybe I'm a little too easy to please.) We are using the much-improved internet service to catch up on emails and home business and to plan our day. Probably watching a news service TV channel and trying to not get depressed about the state of the world.
  18. I was present for the meeting with the French Chef. That was his specific response, at least in his head. We all had a big giggle over the hush puppies order.
  19. We use our Diamond benefit for the specialty dinners in Kings Chaos/Lido, for instance Coriander.
  20. Plenty of caviar, there is no sign of that going away. As to special orders, yes you can request, and as Mr. L suggests, give the kitchen an advance notice. But don'e expect the kitchen to have an exotic ingredients as the staff will not be able to get off in port and buy what is needed for your special meal. And don't expect perfection if the chef is not familiar with what you want. For instance, last month we attended a special dinner where the hostess/passenger designed a "southern fried" dinner. The French chef tried his best, but some of the dishes were not even close to the real thing, for instance hush puppies.
  21. Or the time I was on a train headed to the airport and a young woman engaged in a loud and long cell phone conversation with her gynecologist about the social disease that she had unfortunately caught. Most of her fellow passengers heard the details. Definitely TMI.
  22. I met Hyacinth. She frequently sails Cunard. Oh and BTW, that is "Bouquet" to you!
  23. I use the recumbent bikes on all ships and have used them on the Victoria. I remember 2 bikes, and I doubt if they have been removed. But sometimes one is broken.
  24. Dining outside at the Colonnade in the evening is sublime with the ship's wake as your background view. We love this experience and the informality and are drawn to it, as long as the Colonnade menu suits us.
  25. First the good news: The internet service has improved noticeably. I no longer have to wander the halls aimlessly with my open laptop in hand searching for a server that will provide me a basic connection. Good news. We are Diamond status. On a recent 13-day Elizabeth crossing, the Diamond benefit was not sufficient to cover the full cost of high-level internet service. Annoying since the only other benefit we get from being Diamond is a free lunch in the Verandah. Oh, yeah, I forgot the label pin. On a recent 8-night QM2 crossing, the Diamond benefit was insufficient to cover the cost of the high-level internet service.
