  1. Is this a OTC drug and if not, is it very expensive ? And if a Dr. has to order it, what are the possible side effects? I hope I'm not being 'nosey' I just want to keep something in mind if my wife decides to ask our Dr. to order her something. We're supposed to take a 15 day cruise from Long Beach to Hawaii this winter. I have heard some days the Pacific waves can really be rough. 😞 Mac
  2. I've read most all of your posts, and believe you would defitinly be considered an expert on rough seas while serving as a seaman AND passenger. So, in your expert opinion was there one Pacific trip on a cruise ship to Hawaii from the west coast, with rough seas, that gave you pause with the thought, "WHAT have I gotten myself into, on such a tiny ship' ? Thanks, in such a rapid reply, Mac
  3. And can advise me just how rough the Pacific can be? I realize NO one can predict what the weather's gonna be like on any given day during a cruise. I have read somewhere ( I think it was on CC that they had two pretty rough sea days during the sailing to the Hawaii islands. The only cruise the wife and I have had was two, Seattle/Alaska in 2010 and last August a ten day from SFO TO Alaska. Neither had anything approaching rough seas. Last Christmas we made reservations on a R/T November cruise out of Long beach to Hawaii. We are in our late sixties and while I'm in pretty good shape my wife does have to use a walker for anything considered walking great distance. I'm afraid with her using a walker any real rough seas might be a problem. This will be our longest cruise and she's so excited about it BUT I don't want to scare her about the possability of rough seas and have her decide maybe we've bitten off too much for her. 😞 Any info or advice you could give would be greatly appreciated, TIA Mac
  4. 'Yum' Is an understatement ! LOLLL ! YUMMeeeeeee Is better !! We (wife and I) did a dream Xmas cruise two years before COVID (2018) and ALL of the buffet cakes were Christmas decorated ! Those young girls cutting and serving big slices of the cake were SO proud of those cakes! (my wife took pictures of each cake and the girls would 'pose ' behind each of their cake) they'd have the biggest smile. 🙂 Mac
  5. Thank you fintoo and EVERYBODY for your kind responses :)) My wife downloaded her App for the Elation and we'll check it and the funtimes for any mention of a seadat teatime. Mac
  6. Thanks, St G, I know it probably attracts an 'OLDER' group of folks. 🙂 Mac
  7. LOLLLLLLLLL !! Sorry 'bout that !! I just realized I LEFT the activity out of the tittle and question I was asking about the Tea time I am SO sorry. Old age, I guess. 😞 Mac
  8. Does it happen , depending from ship to ship, on more or less word of mouth? Also, in most instances where do they have it? I've never noticed it in the fun times and was afraid it'd be crowded almost shoulder to shoulder. The reason I'm asking is because my wife and I are on the Elation this month (since it's a smaller ship, AT may not even be offered) but my wife is on a mobile walker and we surely don't want to be in the way. I know from 1st hand experience how easy it is to catch your foot on those pesky devils. 😞 Any help or advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. TIA Mac
  9. While I enjoyed both movies (I agree that the 1st was better than the second) and the 1st still comes on TCM from time to time. The book was FANTASTIC !! From the first page to the last the reader felt that he was a 'silent witness' standing beside the jackal. I didn't know if they still held passports overseas OR if it was a 'European' thingee at that time and slowly disappeared. Mac
  10. Better teeth, than cheeks! (hehehehehehehehe) Mac
  11. A brief history about WHY I'm asking this question. Myself, my wife and my sister did the 10 Alaskan cruise out of SFO on the Miracle last August. Had a wonderful cruise, except for one minor problem (and it only mattered to me and those like me that enjoy this). We are a rare breed ( it seems, according to everybody who isn't this way on the CC cruise site). I NEED my coffee to be very HOT, in the 195 degree range for me to drink it, to me, anything less borders on ice coffee. My poor wife likes hers slightly below room temperature (40-50 degrees) so she just shakes her head at me ! On the last few days on the Miracle cruise I noticed the Lideo deck coffee (which we all three LOVE) was, at the best, warm after the 1st cup. The dinning room manager was walking around the room asking several questions about everything, food quality, service, etc, and when he stopped and asked us my wife, mentioned the lukewarm coffee and he immediately called someone over and told him to check the brewing temperature of the coffee machines which only fixed the problem for about fifthteen minutes. Myself and my wife are taking our 1st cruise on the Elation in less than a week and I was wondering if any other HOT coffee lovers notice a similar problem with the Lido coffee machines? Out of 20+ CCL this was the first time this has happened. A fluke? I think so but I brought enough instant coffee to bring with me to the Elation, just in case, and use the hot water tap in the beverage area for my daily 4-5 8oz coffee addict needs :)). Hopefully, one of my HOT coffee brothers has just gotten off the Elation and will see my information need. LOL !! I also want to say I'm sorry because I said at the start, this was going to be 'brief' history and it ended up being not even CLOSE. I am sorry. Thank you, Mac elationE
  12. Ohhhhhhhh GOODNESS !! I am a BIG fan of the lunch buffet cakes !! They are SO yummy ! Mac
  13. Goodness !! 😞 Never thought humidity would be such a problem, this deep into winter conditions.! :(Here in Atl it's sixty degrees w/ very low humidity. Before I retired, we had a man transfer from Atl to NOLA (his wife's family lived there and she wanted to move back home, I had heard about the awful hot HUMID summers there ! But never gave a thought to it MIGHT carry over to the winters, as well. But, a job's a job, you takes the good w/the bad. It depends on what ya become used to. On our 1st cruise to Alaska out of Seattle in June of 2010, the hotel driver who was driving the shuttle apologized several times 'about the warm weather' I was amazed, to say the least, it was fifty eight degrees with NO humidity ! I told him, 'Sir, we just left Atlanta, where at eleven a.m.it was ninety EIGHT degrees w/ humidity pushing it up to 104 ! Now, that's HOT !!'. He stared at me, and said, " I could NEVR work in those conditions'. I just said, IF the job requires it, you either quit or get on with it, plenty of people waiting for you to move aside'. Soglad you made the drive and are safe in NOLA. Mac
  14. Perhaps, I misread but I think she's sailing with her adult son ? But I could be mistaken, you know how weak minded, we men are lol ! Mac
  15. What a WONDERFUL precious 'gift' from HIM :)) And 'they' say there's NO romance left in the world, today! BTW, I know about 'hotflashes' (Not ME, but my wife still suffers from them, and we're over seventy) The last cruise we had out of NOLA was on the Navigator of the Seas, a 7-day western carib jaunt, I believe. On our last night at sea we were steaming back up the ole Mississippi in TOTAL fog, all night our ship would blast his fog horn. Scared my wife to death ! Me? I slept like a baby. I knew there was nothing I could do, to change anything. So, I know about fog. Mac
  16. I've heard all of my entire adult life, 'If, you have a project and keep putting off a finishing detail that's supposed to be finished TODAY, you really don't want to take part in it'. Perhaps, you're not really looking forwards to this particular project (cruise)? Only YOU can decide if this is the case. Good luck. Mac
  17. Ohhhhhh!! to qualify for that package deal (get of debarkation day/But boarding same flight THREE days later, you FIRST, gotta be SURE you're absolutely booked on 'SouthWORST' !!! ( Just kidding !! Even though I've never flown on this wonderful airline, her situation has happened to ALL airlines. My best friend, who used to be BIG fan of SW, but after being dumped and stranded at various airports around the country said, 'Maybeee we outta re-name SW 'SouthWest Air France' due to it's cancelation practices??' I just wagged my finger at him in good natured humor. Mac
  18. Well, sadly, it was bound to happen. Even the 'Golden Boy' of the mass market cruise lines, the cream of the crop, the line it's passengers love to boast and heap praise on, had its day of misfortune come about. All this proves is that this 'accident' can happen to ANY cruise line. Even the 'new kid of the mass line' on the block. Prayers for the family of the deceased and the entire crew of the stricken ship. Mac
  19. Read the article here on CC about both the new Costa ships coming to Carnival. Just curious, have 'they' released or does anybody know just how much $$ will be spent refurbishing each ship? It certainly does sound more than 'ripping out the carpet and slapin on dab a bit-o-paint' job to me but what do I know? I haven't pried off a paint can lid in twenty years. Sooo, what's the dough-ray-me scoop, if anybody's heard or has an educated guess? Mac
  20. With 20+ cruises (eighteen of them on Carnival) I, too, was delighted to learn that in the NDR one could request 'an half portion' of an entree. On several past cruises, I'd been tempted to ask about it, but didn't want others to roll their eyes, thinking, 'WOW !!! What a GLUTONOUS p-i-g !!.' I've always noticed foods on the menu that I've always wanted to try: i.e. vegan Indian, which isn't common around here. So, come the middle of January IF this dish is offered in the MDR I'll ask the waiter IF I could try a half, just too see what it's like. (IF I'm not too full, that is). :)) Mac
  21. Oh, I know because like any business that sells and provides a legal product whose over indulgence can cause extreme aggressiveness the seller merely says, ' ALL who indulge in this product, are 21, and being an adult, we EXPECT them too use common sense and know their limitations'. (And, to their credit MOST do) Mac
  22. Having lost loved 'liitle ones' after having each 12+ years each I told my wife with our last loss, 'You know, I wish that when the Almighty powers created this universe had a loving pet for love and affection. Then hopefully HE would have made it possible for THEM to take life's long journey beside us. Because in their short life they show us more LOVE than most humans. And, it's this loss, that pains us the most. RIP Sweet Fighter- you were, and are loved and missed. Mac
  23. I can agree with you, but only to a point. I was born, raised and grew up with a loving BUT strong mother who taught me my whole upbringing,' No matter WHO or HOW they act, you always treat every woman like a lady, with respect. Treat them as you'd hope a man would treat your sister'. After ten years in law enforcement as a uniformed Deputy , I saw men and arrested many, who after way too much liquor were involved in both took their anger, in both verbal and physical abuse. and ended up spending the night as our guest in the crossbar motel ( jail). Many of these 'guest were still there the next day when I'd come back in for my shift and I'd have to process them before they could make bond. I was very surprised at how most of them , who stoutly swore they had no memory that they'd done these acts. Perhaps, they had a lasp of memory and 'forgot' them But, the stink of alcohol and sweat seeping from them, told me what caused the fog and memory loss. I wonder just how many ship's security officers would agree with me that sometimes alcohol can be the cause? Mac
