  1. Oh no no, I'm quite sure the ship (in the early stages at sea) will have full coverage until later in itslater stages as the years hammer the engines and hull until it reaches the 'age' as ships do that insurance is not financially feasible and becomes cost prohibitive. Mac
  2. BUT..Hopefully, you've put the spare 6 mil back for the preverbal 'rainy' day because 20-30 years down the toad your 'sea condo' runs aground to an asian or south asian breaker because your condo's engines and hull have wore out and been sold for scrape 😞 A fate that land locked L Ron Hubbard. Mac
  3. From the reviews I've seen, it seems most of the 'rough' water seems to happen the first 2 days out, after that it usually calms down. Hopefully IF we have rough water that'll be (hopefully) the worst. but like the ole saying goes, Ya pays yer money, yer takes yer chances'. 😞 Mac
  4. I agree w/you 100% BUT I see the point (to a degree) about the 'fire' problem. And will NOT even discuss the revolting topic discussed in #3 reply above. I LOVE my keurig brewer and wish ( and this may or may not exist and I'm not aware of it OR it may not be possible due too economically fesable). I wish Keurig made a unit that could be 'fire/idiot proof' (IF such a unit is possible) . Therefore we who love HOT coffee could brew a20-30 oz cup in 5 mins. True you can call room service and possibly get a carafe in 20-30 mins BUT odds are it'll be (at best) lukewarm which is a little too cool for my taste. So, I don't know what the cure is for in-room service is or if there is one except to don the casual dress and venture down (or up) to the coffee bar for a warmer cup of joe. Anybody here, have a suggestion or cure? Mac (P.S Heck, I'll even BRING my coffee pods if they could find a suitable unit)
  5. My wife smiled and read this reply out loud, to me and I replied, 'NEVER leave home without MINE :))' Mac
  6. I appreciate your kind suggestions and advice so much. I had mentioned a 'scooter' before on our last cruise ( a 7 day to the W Carribean on the Carnival Pride but she doesn't want to go that route right now until she absolutely has too. women AND their pride !! LOLLLLLLLLL !! All kidding aside, as time marches on, she may HAVE to use a scooter to be able too cruise, but we'll cross that bridge when we have too. Nac
  7. Oooooooooooh !! I admire and love watching those types who DON'T chaw stuff, like bacon, an just SLURP it down and swallow it WHOLE !! 🙂 Mac
  8. It's a small world, indeed !! 🙂 I took my wife on her 1st cruise on the Holiday in 2207. I had my 1st cruise on the OLD Marti Gras way back in'87but we didn't till '92 and marry in 1995. Took me over TEN years of almost begging het to try cruising, finally I just gave up, went behind her back in the summer of 2006 and booked a five day cruise on the Holiday to Freeport/Nasssau out of Mobile ! But it almost back-fired ! Stupide me, I forgot to tell her, till Xmas of 2006. Boy ! Was she ever shocked and a bit curious, and finally agreeded to go. Long story, short ( I know, too late LOL !!). Fifteen mins, top deck at the sail away party. she yelled in my ear,' When can we do this AGAIN !' Tweny+ cruises, she still LOVES it She's truly a 'cruise addict' ! 🙂 Mac
  9. For several years (when I was in my early 30's) I kept seeing a 2 inch block in the sunday travel section of the local newspaper advertising cruising and I decided IF the chance ever happened and I could afford it, I'd gice it a chance. Sure enough, everything fell into place, a job w/free flight benefits, a free place to live and I decided that there's no chance like that current situation to take a chance and go on my first cruise even though it'd be solo. Even though I was sharing OV cabin with a total stranger on the first deck I decided this was the best way to go. I still feel that way 40 years later. Mac
  10. That's a great point about the need to leave from either Vancouver or Mexico for the one way trip. I'll definitily check to see which cruise line does it and what the flights look like for the airline (flight ability) I retired from. Thank you so much for the heads up' on this. Mac
  11. Goodness !!! I didn't think about doing a 'one way' I wonder how much that would save us ? Since we wouldn't have to pay for the retune sailing OR airfare back to the U.S. ( I retired from the airlines after almost 30 years so we fly 'free'). But I'm not sure if all cruise lines sell one way sailings but it wouldn't hurt to ask. All they can say is 'No'. 🙂 Mac
  12. Oh, I know the old Miracle isn't considered a 'biggie' anymore, 😞 But when I posted this similar question on the Carnival board here back during the summer, I never did get a response, so I thought I'd try the retirement board just in case a senior citizen had taken this very same cruise. After I posted my last posting I noticed you're quite the HAL fan. I've always wanted to sail on them BUT on a fixed senior income I doubt the wife would approve but it doesn't cost anything to DREAM ! LOL !! :)) Mac
  13. It's the Carnival Miracle, we've been on her twice before, once to the 7 Day Southern caribbean and a 10 day SFO to Alaska. The 10 day was up the coast to Alaska so it didn't really get wayyy out in the Pacific, so no rough water at all. Thanks for your fast response. 🙂 Mac
  14. We've booked and paid for the cruise midsummer this year (out of L.A.) for the end of November but I'm kinda having second thoughts. Perhaps they're silly but I'm worried about my wife's ability to walk onboard the ship with her walker. This is the first real 'open ocean' cruise (and longest) cruise we've ever taken. I've seen some reviews stating that once out in the Pacific some folks have had pretty rough seas for several days. I know 'rough seas' can be VERY subjective, what's 'rough' to one can be 'mild' to another. What with the cost of the cruise PLUS the 2000 dollar airfare for two it's not exactly a cheap cruise. But we're both in our late sixties, so this 'gift' may not come our way again. Like I said, I may be worrying about nothing. Just wondering IF anybody here had taken this cruise and had any roller coaster like weather sailing to hawaii ? Thanks in advance. 🙂 Mac
  15. That's what I thought you meant ! The 'good' stuff ! :)) Mac
  16. you DO mean whiskey not bourbon whiskey, right ? Hoping I didn't misunderstand here. )) Mac
  17. I've heard that Jamison's (Irish Whiskey and on SOME ships CR (Crown Royal which is my choice hands down) is served in some bars from ship to ship. From watI gather there was a shortage with the supplier concerning Crown. 😞 Perhaps others who enjoy this heavenly beverage can know other brands ? Mac
  18. Congrats !!! :)) We (my wife and I) just did her the third week last month ! Our first cruise on her and first trip to Jacksonville. Hope you have as much fun as we did on her she's a BEAUT lady. Mac
  19. You could have handled this situation with the gentleman 2 ways: 1) As you slowly walked away from the counter just quietly say 'Are YOU a plat VIP member ? If he nods, then say 'Well, we plats get 'SPECIAL' treatment, at Guest Services, soooo GO stand at the windw !". Or: 2) IF he shakes his head no, Simply smile and say ' Wel, keep cruising Carnival, believe me we ALL have been where you're standing now and those days will finally build up and then YOU will been 'special' enough too stand at the Plat/Diamond window'. And then slowly give him a salute , a smile and stroll away. Mac
  20. Then I guess me, my wife must be VSP guest, because on every one of our 20+ Carnival cruises, we've been asked what time would be agreeable for us either day/night. I leave it up to her, doesn't matter to me. Truth be known, all I want is the bathroom done and towels and sheets changed every three days, but hey I'm a man and I don't make my bed at home, so on vacation I'm easy-peasy. Course most women are different. soooo I'm speaking for myself, if ya know what I mean. Mac
  21. Quality of the food seemed very good to excellent to us of course neither of us are difficult to please. But the great AND excellent, friendly staff made the breakfast even more enjoyable. Of course, as with all things concerning food its all subjective. And the wife reminded me the name of course was the Blue Iguana. Mac
  22. I agree with you. A gentle warning would be enough. Mac
  23. We're on the Pride(1st week of March and our first time on her) so excited for a 'first' new ship feeling. We just got off the Elation 2 weeks ago also our first time cruise on her. The only thing we missed on the Elation was more places to eat, the only premiun dining venue was the Captain's Table and I think they had the Green Eggs and Ham but the wife and I are in our late 60's early 70's sooo a little old for that ! LOL ! The Elation only had three shops on deck 8 so the wife's shopping trip only took about 20 min because one of them was the duty free shop and she neither smokes or drinks alcohol. But we realize smaller ships have less space for more eating and shopping venues. But other than those things we LOVED the Elation, the buffet with their cakes at lunch, the MDR and Guy's Burgers, plus the poolside eating venue (the taco and Burrato place ( I can't think of the name) now has a full breakfast complete with grits, sasuage and bacon, omletts, some fruit and pastries. All were excellent a BIG win win for both of us. Mac
  24. I worry (IMPO) of course that it's not the distance, but that this act is a dangerous 'habit' some adults can take for granted that it's always harmless that they will form the automatic belief, "the child always safe, I've got them'. Which could lead to a tragic result. Mac
