Double check if you have answered the Health/Wellness questions properly. I believe mine turned gold when I answered one of the questions erroneously about being COVID symptomatic. When I changed my answer it went from gold to green.

You're going to love Alaska with Princess. They make it very special. How many days will you be sailing so close to heaven?

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look. We're on a 7 day trip ending in Whittier

  2. Hi all,

We've only sailed on Princess twice, our third is Alaska this coming May. After we picked our arrival time in the app, the bar above the QR code on my app is gold while it's still blue on DH's phone. I don't think it's anything to worry about, there's not much we get at such a low status anyway, but DH is concerned it may make a difference once onboard.  We have the latest app version, and we're using n android phones. Has anyone else run into something similar? Will the issue rectify itself or should we just bring it up when we check in at the port?

    Thanks

  3. Personally,

As long as I don't have to stand on deck with hundreds of other folks watching a crew member put his/her lifejacket on, I'm happy.

Tv, phone, it's all good. I'll gladly stop by to have my medallion checked with a drink in my hand. 🥂

  4. Hi all,

We are planning on a Christmas cruise (no offense to those who don't observe:) on the Equinox this year. We've never been on Celebrity but always wanted to try so we decided to take the plunge.  I would like to surprise DH with a cabin in the Concierge class instead of a 'regular' balcony and wanted to know is it worth the extra money? From what I've read, we would enjoy just about all the little perks that come with the cabin class except for the debarkation lounge. We prefer to walk off with our suitcases.

    Any thought or advice appreciated.

    Tia

  5. If we were to purchase GC's and our TA is able to have it applied as OBC before our cruise, would we then be able to use that (in addition to the OBC we already have from the CL &TA) to pay for any excursions we book ahead of time through Princess?

Also, what happens if we don't use all the OBC by end of cruise. Is it 'lost' or refunded?

    Thanks

No customs for you.  You should be fine for the 1:20 but keep in mind when all of those people get off the bus, they are also heading to check in as well, and that is where the lines can get long.  So, don't dilly dally getting up to check in.  At least for Delta, they have a bag drop line if you already checked in prior to arriving.  I don't know about others.  I'd "check in" in advance; in port in Whittier before getting on the bus.  The good thing is that the gate agents know how many people are in line and they communicate that with the gate agents once the gate opens and boarding starts.

We are flying on Delta and usually check in on the app as soon as we can. We also try to drop our bags off first thing. Hopefully this makes everything go smoothly.

We don't know to where the original poster intends to fly. You cannot assume that people will be traveling directly to their home. Moreover, it would not make sense to ask about immigration and customs if flying to Massachusetts because, as properly noted, both Alaska and Massachusetts are in the same country. (No one would believe that Alaska and Massachusetts are in different countries, would they?!) Thus, given the question, it is reasonable to assume that the individual is flying to some foreign country, where immigration and customs would have to be cleared.

When I looked at the Anchorage airport website it indicated that international schedules are presently limited to Canada and Germany. I had thought that there were some flights to Asia as well, but I did not see anything being shown. I did not know about the service to Iceland, and I am a bit surprised that there would be sufficient demand for such service to and from Reykjavík.

    GTJ,

We are, in fact, flying back to Massachusetts. I asked about customs because we were coming from Canada to the U.S., but any customs business will be taken care of at the ship.

  8. Thanks everyone,

We both have Global entry(which we won't obviously need) and TSA precheck.  Our shuttle is through Alaska Cruise Transport and their website says drop off is 11:30 am. I didn't think we'd need to clear customs at the airport, figured it would be on the ship itself, but I always like to think of every situation so we're prepared😁

  9. HI all,

We are taking a Princess Cruise to Alaska ending in Whittier. We'll be taking a shuttle to the Anchorage airport when we disembark, which drops us off at 11:30am that same day. We've got 2 choices for flights back home (in the U.S). 1:20pm or 3:55pm. We'd like to book the 1:20pm flight but weren't sure if the drop off time gives us enough time to go through customs-do we actually need to do that? - check our bags and get to our gate. We've never been to the airport and don't know how big it is.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  10. Hi all,

So, we've decided to stay at the Loden hotel now since it's closer to the port, liquor stores, and restaurants. Any suggestions for a restaurant within walking distance that isn't a 'typical' burger type place, and a liquor store with a varied wine selection. On the map I see Earls Kitchen, Joey Bentall One, or Showcase Restaurant. If all goes will with the flights, we should be at the hotel between 530-600pm.

    Thanks

  11. I'm a solo sailor at times as well. Honestly, I would not pay that much for a 7-day cruise. Maybe something like a transatlantic would be the exception, but otherwise, no. Especially since it's not an OV balcony. (But as mentioned above, no judgement here, if it works for you that's all that matters) As much as I enjoy Royal Caribbean, they are becoming too expensive for me when I go without my DH. I've been looking elsewhere to get my solo fix.

Just wanted to come back and say that Princess Cruise weddings are no longer handled by Royal Ocean Events. A gentleman from the new company has gone totally above and beyond since taking control of my ceremony. His name is Brian and he is a rockstar who always calls me back lol. What a turn around from the experience I had been having!!!

You are correct.  I actually had to deal with ROE regarding an issue I had with getting extra marriage certificates after my wedding. I ended up speaking with the owner of the company and she confirmed Princess now handles wedding in house.

Glad to hear you are having a better experience now.

  13. Hi all,

We have an Alaska trip booked May of 2023. We're flying in the day before, staying at a hotel near the airport. (We're coming from the U.S. and our flight options don't have us arriving until later in the evening, so an airport hotel is easier for us.) We'll be going to the liquor store to purchase wine to bring onboard, and having the hotel call us a taxi to get to the port. Should we plan on paying for the wine and taxi in CAD or U.S. dollars? Is the taxi a 'fixed' price or just whatever the meter runs to? We are planning on bringing some CAD and want to make sure we have enough.

Also, if we get room service while on the ship, we usually tip a few dollars, should that be done in U.S or CAD?

Thanks in advance for the help

I must have forgotten about that. My husband doesn't remember it either.

Old age is getting to us.

I've worked for 'the phone company' over 36 years. One of my very first jobs was to verify street names and addresses against the phone number for every person who had a land line phone.
