  1. Per the mfgr instructions, we cooked a pound of bacon on ours. Then made smashburgers a couple of times. It’s pretty well seasoned now.
  2. We’ve visited Portland a few times by car. It’s a great little town for a walkabout, lots of cute shops, bars & seafood restaurants, I believe you can do whale watch trips from there. You can also do a tour of the Shipyard Brewery (or just visit). There’s the Maine College of Art & Design downtown too. I don’t know if they have anything open to the public.
  3. @jagsfan Happy Belated Birthday Mimi! @BonTexasNY glad to hear you’re finally home Bonnie. One step (no pun intended) closer to back to normal.
  4. It poured from the Delaware Memorial Bridge until just north of Baltimore, but it turned out to be a beautiful night at the ballpark. Sad how empty it was though. Certainly not the same atmosphere as a packed house at Fenway Park. We had Boog’s Barbecue for dinner there, smoked turkey sandwich & pit beef sandwich, we did “halfsie’s” and it was delicious. Next time we’ll plan to spend more time (and see the Red Sox play the O’s 😉).
  5. That has to be so frustrating and it’s very inconsiderate. I’m very grateful to also be married to my handyman, even if he’s currently out of commission. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, but over the years Andy has shared his handyman/construction skills with a few select people we know by helping them with projects like tiling bathrooms, painting, replacing doors & trim, installing custom molding, etc. He’s so diligent about doing things right (including always showing up when he says he will) and leaving the place spotless that he could certainly make a very nice living if he wanted to just based on word of mouth. But he didn’t retire to work full time so it’s really just to keep him occupied. As one if our friends put it “everyone should have an Andy”, lol.
  6. @Sunshine3601Thank you for all the great info Debbie! I’ve taken a screenshot to save for the next time we visit. We’re staying at the Royal Sonesta Harbor Court. Unfortunately we’ve hit a fair amount of traffic and it looks like we’ll just have time to check-in and head to the game, so it’s ballpark food tonight. I know we ate at a great bar/cafe in Fells Point our last time here, don’t remember the name. If you’ve been there, any suggestions for Cape May?
  7. We’re off on a little road trip. First stop, Baltimore. Several years ago in our way home from FL we stopped and saw a Red Sox vs Orioles game at Camden Yards. On our last trip home from FL in March, as we drove thru B’more, I mentioned I’d like to go there again. So for Mother’s Day Andy bought us tickets for tonight’s game. Now I meant I’d like to go to a Red Sox game again, but we’re seeing the Orioles vs some team that’s not the Sox LOL, but it’s the thought that counts! We’re staying overnight within walking distance of the ballpark. Tomorrow we’re heading to Cape May NJ for the day, then checking into Harrah’s in Atlantic City tomorrow night. Thursday we’ll go to our oldest daughters in PA for the weekend, celebrating two grandsons July birthdays.
  8. I hope everyone had a happy & safe 4th of July. It was a gorgeous weather day here, sunny and hot but no humidity. Perfect pool day. The umbrellas we ordered finally came in. Thankfully Andy had set the ground mount for the cantilever before his injury. Our SIL bolted to the mount today and it works great. It tilts and swivels so we can keep the dining set shady not matter the angle of the sun. A few pictures of it and our low key celebration today.
  9. @dani negreanu I’m so sorry your long awaited cruise was such a disappointment. Then to end up testing positive for Covid after all that! How are you feeling?
  10. @singinalot Happy Birthday Crystal! Not sure if I’m late or on time with my wishes, but I hope you do (or did) something fabulous.
  11. Thank you Dani. Not sure yet if we’ll stay one night or two post cruise before flying home. We’ve also done a walk thru there and agree it has a great vibe. I’m a sucker for a courtyard. Thanks Greg. CasaBlanca looks great. I’ll say I’ve narrowed it to that one and El Convento if we decide on Old San Juan. We’ve been there I think 4 times on port stops, have walked OSJ and visited the forts so maybe we’ll stay outside the old city a bit just to experience something different. We can always take a bus or taxi into OSJ. Thank you! (see above) Thank you, appreciate all the input!
  12. @Sea Dog when you cruised from San Juan last year, did you spend any time there pre or post cruise? If so, where did you stay and would you recommend it? We are starting to look at details for our Voyager repositioning cruise later this year (Boston to San Juan). On my list of hotels are the Decanter Hotel, Hotel CasaBlanca and El Convento, all in Old San Juan.
  13. Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes for Andy. Trivia night was fun, it was great to get out for a bit and our team came in first place! We won a $50 gift card that we applied to our snack/drink bill so all in all it was a great night. This morning he took the last of his Oxy & Toradol. He’s just been taking extra strength Tylenol today and is doing okay. He has prescription ibuprofen if needed. Still flexing & bending those fingers and elevating it often. Happy Canada Day to our friends up north! 🇨🇦 Happy Fourth of July weekend to those celebrating it!🇺🇸 We have just our local kids & grandkids coming over for a cookout Monday and swimming since it’ll be a hot day. We usually have a bigger group but just keeping it small this year, less work for both of us.
  14. It’s been a long couple of days here since Andy’s surgery Tuesday morning. The procedure went fine, pins and a plate were put in that will have to be surgically removed in several weeks. Once the block wore off, he was in terrible pain even with prescriptions for Oxycodone and Toradol, supplemented with Tylenol. I set my alarm to get up a couple of times a night to give them to him so that he stays on schedule. Finally this morning he’s noticed a big improvement. But he’s also supposed to bend and straighten the fingers on that hand at least every hour or so which results in pain, so it’s really a Catch-22. I am happy to say he feels well enough to attempt our regular Thursday night trivia with friends at a local restaurant. I have a lot of catching up to do here and on Bella’s thread!
