  1. We did Chichen Itza and loved it. It's a long bus ride through the jungle to get there, but you do pass (two if I remember correctly) a couple villages and the bus slows down to let a local person board and sell stuff. The village alone is culture shock/education. Obviously no electricity, running water etc. Some women still walking around topless. Chichen Itza, I agree with firefly - if you don't like learning about history and cultural evolution it might not be exciting. I was THRILLED. (edit: just as I saved this I remembered, we actually did Chichen Itza from Cancun, not Progreso, sorry)
  2. Too late, mods. I got the info I needed from the community I love, Carnival community.
  3. Thanks everyone, I'm leaning toward Krazy Lobster. JT1962, I included "Carnival Excursion" in the topic just so the thread wouldn't get moved to another forum.
  4. I didn't know, I had just read about it on cruisecritic and suddenly realized it was something I should look into. At the very least, linking means I don't have to disembark, I was told by Carnival agent today.
  5. Those of you who have visited multiple beaches on Carnival excursions in Costa Maya, which is the best beach for pure swimming enjoyment? Think like Half Moon Cay... TIA
  6. Thanks that is very helpful, the hold time was only about five minutes, and when I asked why we link B2Bs she said now I won't have to get off the ship. I said FOREVER? 😁 🏴‍☠️
  7. I've looked all over carnival.com and don't see anything about linking my upcoming B2B cruises, but I'm pretty sure I've read on various threads that I should do so, from memory a couple posts gave good reasons to. Can anyone direct me how to do this magical linking thingy? TIA
  8. Since they're only limiting the entrees to 2 for free there is an easy work-around, which I'm sharing here with all my fellow gluttons-anonymous members. Just order 8 or 10 shrimp cocktails. The juvenile lobsters they serve are only a little bigger than a shrimp anyway. If you already order 4 or 6 shrimp cocktails, just add an extra 8 or so.
  9. Lobster roll was $15 on the Pride in September. Probably $20 by now.
  10. Foam has a long history in the kitchen with world-class chefs and made a trendy comeback ~8-10 years ago. It's a way to infuse other flavors without changing the food itself, similar to sauce but different texture on the palate. I never met a foamy food I didn't like until the foamy smoky oysters in the steakhouse. They're actually the only thing I can say I was disappointed in there. I wouldn't expect much from seafood shack either, I had lobster rolls on my recent cruise and they were poor quality and quantity lobster meat, with a too-bready roll. I looked at the oysters, they were small but not tiny, and I think they were $2 each.
  11. $5 MDR upcharge for ordering a third entree Limited hours for soft-serve ice cream
  12. I don't get it. Anytime I'm looking at my casino offers, I have to remove Galveston from the "sail from" filter if I filter for lowest cruise first because Galveston are the cheapest. And I have cruised out of Galveston before, so it's not like Carnival is making it cheaper for me than people who have previously sailed from there.
  13. There is a difference, based on my experience. When you arrive you'll get to stand in a Plat/Diam line that is perhaps 10 cruisers deep, instead of the general population line that will be 50+ cruisers deep. That means less time until you're on the ship.
  14. From memory, it's just a separate line (usually shorter). So, for example, if during check-in you select 12 noon, if you're Plat/Dia/Sui, you get to go in the line that is maybe 10 people long instead of the line that is 60 people long.
  15. MDR: Prime Rib, lentil and pumpkin soups. Steakhouse: Surf & Turf, any steak other than spice-rubbed. Lido: Roast turkey carved to order, Pizza, Blue Iguana chicken tacos with beans, cilantro, salsa and habanero sauce Mardi Gras: Big Chicken, Rudi's, Chibang, Shawarma, hot dog stand...
  16. If they have an open bottle of the free wine, ask for a taste first. If you don't like it, opt for a bottle of better wine at 50% off. We did the free wine once, tried it a second time and paid 50% off for Kendall Jackson Cabernet Sauvignon, and never tried the free wine again. But different palates, who knows?
  17. No, Eastern for 1/21, to Nassau (weeEEE!), Amber Cove and Grand Turk. Correct that 1/28 is also Eastern, but as of today on carnival.com still includes San Juan.
  18. On The Pride out of Rome in September, I thought the fries at guy's had improved over the old ones, actually it surprised me - there was a fresh potatoey goodness to them kinda like Royal Farms wedge fries.
  19. Post #8 should keep you busy for a while. 😁 🏴‍☠️
  20. I hope it doesn't, but if it does you will have a great conversation starter the entire cruise... in your best pirate accent, just interject into each conversation "Why is the rum always gone???"
