  1. It took you 20 days to fashion that response? 😄
  2. Princess Ship Abbreviations * CB - Caribbean Princess * CO - Coral Princess * KP - Crown Princess * DI - Diamond Princess * AP - Grand Princess * IP - Island Princess * GP - Regal Princess * SA - Sapphire Princess * EP - Emerald Princess Don't know the newer Royal Class ships, Sky, Discovery
  3. Pretty sure you are thinking of one titled Main Dining Room, started last Sunday. It was closed by Michell. There had been a similar thread closed, probably because it was getting heated. Seemingly coincidentally, that one started right up so quickly, it made me laugh.
  4. One thing you could do to eliminate riskier exposure, is to do a RT sailing out of San Diego, since you live nearby. Look at the Princess website by port. We did a RT out of L.A. earlier this year and not having to deal with air cancellations, or sitting next to whoever and potentially whatever they have on the plane was a relief. Let's remember that everything contagious, is still out there. Use good practices, which you are surely aware. Truth be told, we felt safer onboard than we did going to the local grocery store. Everyone was vaccinated, tested x2 and wearing masks was required. Same can't be said for going out grocery shopping. We are seniors too. Hope you get to use your credits!
  5. @Ptroxx "....live been on 25 cruises and never worn pants. All RC NCL CCL." In March, saw someone refused for shorts, T-short, ball cap. Princess does draw a line that is not there on RCL, NCL or CCL. People are contentious here about what should be acceptable, but I would not want you to be one of those refused. Consider packing a collared shirt and long pants.
  6. If you have done 22 cruises with RCCL, you are probably at least Diamond, making you Elite with Celebrity. That should weigh heavily in your decision, for that cruise and your future benefit levels. We have sailed both lines. Agree with the above regarding food. Did not like the Regal. At 3600 passengers, Apex at 2900, better sized. You might browse the Medallion Masters section at the top of the Princess board. Some had zero problems with the App. Some, like us, had nothing but problems. Put down the brochures, this is what cruising Princess really is now.
  7. Read it. Makes me want to look elsewhere for a cruise vacation. Opposite of their intention I'm sure.
  8. I do not know what current policy or gov't regulations are. Relating our experience end of Feb. At that time, there was a required test within "two days" of cruising. Done through our HMO. Then tested at the port. Also tested at our cabin two or three days at sea. I think the last one was a Hawaii thing. If you don't remember the port area, Google map it. You drive into the lot, loop around by the USS Iowa then a light colored building on the right past the guard shack. That's 91. But are they still testing preboarding? I don't know. But that's where testing was done. Just find out what the requirements when and where you're going.
  9. May I ask how you commute to the port of LA? We are in the West Valley too and used to use local shuttle vans, but the company just serves LAX, not the pier area since Covid. Last time a relative drove us. Uber/lyft unreliable.
  10. Since you are in OC, you have likely sailed out of San Pedro, so I'll use terms you would know. Usually, the Princess ships dock at berth 93. But on our recent sailing, we got out of the car at berth 91. There was no posted sign for this! We were early, second boarding time group. There we turned over our luggage and went inside that building for testing. Once our group cleared testing, some shuttled, we walked, to 93. Going inside, there was no waiting for someone to handle our Medallion App mess. After that, no wait to board and walked right on. That said, the ship was about 60% booked.
  11. Temperatures in Alaska in August are like Murietta, CA in January, except in Ketchikan, they measure rainfall in feet. So on the ship, dress as you would for going out on an overcast rainy day in January.
  12. It takes 300 points to achieve what Celebrity labels Elite. But earning points is different and the benefits are different than Princess level for level. You'd have to check. For example, Elite internet benefit is 30% off, Elite Plus is 35%.
  13. Please elaborate if you have knowledge of upcoming changes and a timeline. Yes, I know about the internet. Yes, some things were not the same on our last cruise, owing to claimed supply issues. Presume you meant using FCDs.
  14. USAF Vet. BTW. One and done with both Carnival and RCCL. Interested in reading others opinions on which lines to try from here. HAL is a train ride to San Diego, but would go if I read enough positive. Like to near about Cunard too. @Ombud I mentioned one and done with RCL. Seems like every day I got my excercise heading to the customer service desk over some problem, plumbing, wrong thing delivered to cabin... The ship, "felt," crowded. If you want to try an RCL family product, Celebrity is more on a level with Princess. Be forewarned, the food is really, really good.
  15. San Pedro Cafe is my favorite place that's still open. Breakfast and lunch only and close at 3PM. They have some good looking Mexican dishes. The photos are worth the look. https://www.welovespc.com/
  16. Sure they do! Here you go: https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=2547
  17. That's not the way they work. Each Medallion emits a signal similar to a license plate on a car. Either will open your cabin door, but they are two separate signals. Which your cabin door makes a distinction. We noticed that as we were almost always together, one Medallion would unlock the door further down the hall from the other. For the poster concerned about proximity opening, keep the Medallion in a metal mesh, foil or RFID pouch. That way, the Medallion will only unlock the door if you hold the device up to the panel.
  18. Assuming you're flying out of YYZ, have you considered flying into Long Beach airport? Would save on traffic concerns and cab fare, but likely more in airfare.
  19. You post the name Kathy, so I make an assumption you're female. Mrs. Mtnesterz wears a long dressy dress, flat sandals, accessorized with a sequened shawl on formal nights. This takes little luggage weight or space and you'll see most women dressed similarly. She says to write that she has good luck finding formals on the sale racks at TJ Maxx, Ross or Marshall's if you need to shop. Don't use your Caribbean cruise as an example of what to wear in Europe.
  20. Sunshine is nice, but just one reason to go the OV cabins. An OV cabin avoids being next to those white spaces on the deck plans. Meaning next to a crew passageway, a janitorial supplies closet or that corridor that runs behind the inside cabins. Work goes on at night hours and the cleaning crew is up early too. Look up the Ruby's obstructed view cabin views in the free section on cruisedeckplans.com
  21. I have read of others here ln CC requesting a board underneath the matteress, so pretty sure they will have them. Problem is these Princess Luxury beds. They are fairly new in service and already wearing out. Consider too, they weren't used for 2 years. Poor durability for a hospitality industry product. They're a foam top, so people sink in before hitting the supportive layer. Also, like any foam or gel top, sleeps hot. Adjust the thermostat as needed at night. Request light blanket instead of duvet. Hope that helps.
  22. A couple of fairly recent threads on this, will post link below. As to your specific question. It is fairly thick as far as a wallet carry. If you have an RFID blocking wallet, it will block the signal but the Medallion might also mess with the magnetic strip on your credit cards. In your pocket will work. But if it comes in contact with certain coins, a Mexican Peso or Euro. They will attract and may interfere with the signal. We just used the free provided lanyard. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2830805-best-ocean-medallion-holder/#comment-62642770

  24. I'd agree to the extent that what counts when going to church is not what's on one's head, but what's in one's heart. The tradition of men not wearing a hat in (Christian) church goes back to when the height of a man's hat was a show of status. Even today, in a kitchen, the tallest hat is worn by the head chef. Still, a man removing a hat in church is an outward show of leveling status; an act of the humble or penitent. On a couple Princess ships I've seen, there is a sign ouside the dining room specifically stating no ball caps, shorts or t-shirts. It's their place, respect it or eat in the buffet. Not about a hat, but the attitude.
