  1. yes which contradicts costa ricas policies online but hey, if they dont want unvaxxed cruise passengers going to shore hopefully ncl can substitute a worthwhile place. what has ncl substituted on other cruises???
  2. i wouldnt mind a drop of limon but I hope they substitute a reasonable port. cruising on jewel late feb out of panama city. still have Limon on cruise itinerary. is the dropped costa rica stop from the atlantic side or pacific?? Pacific side seems to have better excursions and more to see.
  3. We sailed on the star pre shutdowns and really enjoyed the ship. It was a little lacking in food during day on the sea days but dining in evening had plenty of options. shows were good. Will be sailing on it again next year for iceland and greenland and looking forward to getting back on board. I know the circumstances are tough getting back to normal but im sure the staff will do thier best. I really enjoy the ncl drink package and its very convenient. sounds like you should cancel the drink package.
  4. Its as if we have to look at all our ports and meet the most demanding port guideline before we get on the ship. On our cruise,, Panama canal, ncl website says columbia needs a neg covid test b4 your board the ship in order to disembark in their port. costa rica(according to ncl) will not let unvaxxed disembark in port even though the costa rica govt website and us embassy both say no cv19 tests are required and no proof of vaccination needed to enter.
  5. Amen to that. BUTTTTTTT. Its still confusing as many ports their own requirements still, some of which on ncl.com are actually contradictory to the respective country's website.
  6. same here. be good to get some feedback on the hop on hop off bus tour. we did one in guatamala once and it seemed pretty rushed. last time in cartegena we took a nice water taxi through ncl from port and back to old town. it was nice and we just took our time and did what we wanted till we had to get back on the ship .
  7. good luck. it is somewhat of a drive to the volcano from port. we did the excursion off the ship it was an ncl cruise. It was a great excursion walking up the volcano. I would not do this on a private tour. I think we were one of the first buses to leave and one of the last to get back. We did have a nice dinner in town before we went back to ship that added time. have fun and i hope you find the answer you are looking for.
  8. its messy. so many changes. costa rica says you dont need a vaccine to come to country yet ncl still says you do to embark.
  9. Hello, I noticed NCL has is posted on their website that cv19 vaccines are required to enter costa rica. When I check the costa rica website they say no vaccines are required for entry. Which guideline matters? or perhaps NCL hasnt updated that part of their website?
  10. We did this excursion like 5 years ago and will be doing it again(hopefully) this coming feb. they basically take you out on the samur to the island. They use a small zodiac boat to get you to shore. they will tell you how far up or down island to walk to your snorkeling starting point. you will snorkel with current along the shore and end up back where you started at the location the samur is. its about 30mins to and from spot and then about 1.5 hours at location. if you are snorkeling you can leave your shoes on boat or take them with you in a beach bag. last time we did this our group were the only ones on that section of the island so leaving a bag behind on the shore where you debark and embark on the samur shouldnt be a problem. We snorkeled whole time so there wasnt much walking afterwards, its all beach sand and some sea shells/natural ocean debris on the beach. walking barefoot to snorkel entry was not a problem. its a fun excursion and fantastic snorkeling.
  11. we are staying at the radisson hotel just south the the bridge of americas and was wondering how difficult it is to get a taxi to go where we want to go and come back? We would like to go to France square and most likely a few other places. thanks
  12. True, true, Ive been google mapping the area and provided we can get out of port, we will most likely walk south along the beach, malecon de bastidas, to the parque de los novios area and hang out there.
  13. This is confusing and almost too vague to be acceptable policy.. Im cruising out of a non us port in feb, panama, but the county's website says unvaxxed still need to show neg test before entry into country.
  14. Its best it cancels b4 cruise for sure. Cruise is in feb on jewel though panama canal. we wanted to get away as its been awhile at a good price.
  15. Do excursions get cancelled from time to time? Just curious. just got an email for a cancelled excursion I booked but later changed. I hope this is not a precursor to cancelling the cruise!!LOL
  16. I think IMHO cruiselines will be doing what is necessary in the next 12 months to fill ships and make cruising as easy as possible for passengers. Debt covenant deadlines coming soon.
  17. October 8th is first date for a ship, Safari voyager, to be docked to board passengers at the new cruise terminal. The encore shows up on the 8th november and then the Jewel on the 24th. There are more Spanish articles about this port than English.. What i read from an article earlier in the year is the port was 90 percent competed and there are squabbles over the funding of the last 10%. According to cruise mapper there are a lot of ships scheduled to dock for sure.
  18. I have to check as well on my recent booking. the sales rep at ncl told me I deposit 250 and ncl also puts 250 to my booking, although non refundable, and can only be used as a future cruise credit if cruised book canceled. it was in fact listed on the pdj in confirmation email. the website summary doesnt break it down in detail.
  19. print a map before leaving for cruise. last time I was in cartegena no body was selling maps. lol.
  20. some ships have hop on hop off buses that hit the fort, olds town, and a few other stops. that may be your best bet. i would not want to walk from old town cartegena to the old fort. you can see it in the distance, not sure how long it would take to walk to. perhaps google map it. We walked around old town and then walked to gentsemani and then back to old town to get on water taxi back to ship. (which i dont think they are doing water taxis anymore). It would be cool to go to the fort. probably get some nice views of old town.

    Water taxis

Are water taxis still available from port to old cartegena? They are no longer listed on the NCL website or for my cruise.
  22. I just booked another excursion for a diff port and all the other excursions were removed from the same port stop. my total count dropped from 71 to 54.
  23. Ive witnessed the same thing on my cruise in feb. given the lower prices on some of these cruises, im still worried about them cancelling the cruise. many of the excursions for our stop in bonaire did disappear after we booked an excursion though.
