jg51 Posted July 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) Hello, folks. [some of you have seen earlier versions of this message, but it has always been posted previously as a reply within a thread started by another person. I decided today to use this message to start a new thread for a couple of reasons, but especially because of "enhancements" that I have made here and there -- made in part because of suggestions by some of you. Various "no-extra-charge," non-alcoholic beverages have been added. Also the list of wines available by the glass now has notations showing which can be ordered in the main dining rooms. Thank you.] In order to help you decide whether or not a Celebrity beverage package would be "worth it" to you, you need to know what will be available and at what price per glass. Here is a series of lists of the various kinds of beverages found on 2010 menus aboard the Solstice. (I presume that the same/similar menus will be found aboard Equinox, etc. -- but I cannot guarantee it!) Photos of the Solstice menus are on the Internet and have been linked by other CC members in the recent past. I copied all this info from those dozens of photos. judie43 Posted July 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Thanks for all the info. I see my first choice for Pinot Noir is not avaiable in the MDR...which measn I will be "forced" to drink the one that is $11 a glass. I was planning on getting the premium package anyway. Can't wait to try some of those drinks listed for the Molecular Bar
Jerry and Shelly Posted July 26, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2010 I'm printing out your list and using it as a checklist to see if I can drink one of everything on our cruise. Can't wait, Sostice September 26. (Just joking about drinking everythng. I probably will skip the teas.)
satchiesmom Posted July 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) jg51, Thank you for the list - you've pretty much covered all the bases. It will definitely be worth my while to get the Premium package. I may not break even each day, but overall I think I'll come close. I love specialty coffees (lattes, espresso etc.) and was pleasantly surprised to see Hint Water on the list (though they don't have my favorite flavor, Honeydew-Hibiscus). I love that stuff. Travellers123 Posted July 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Hi, many thanks for the list, we are thinking of the Classic Alcoholic package, but we were wondering if you can use the package in the Speciality dining rooms i.e. the tuscan grille. if you can then great if not then it makes the prices a bit steep if you want to eat in them other than the main dining room. BKFlowerMound Posted July 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Judie, there are many delicious off-menu drinks at the Molecular Bar as well as Junior Merino (the Liquid Chef) is coming up with new drinks all the time. Ask as they are all $12 and available under the premium package.

pisces223 Posted July 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted July 27, 2010 I see that there are some nice bottled waters on your list that you can get with the package. Is it possible to get more than one bottle at a time? I ask this because when going ashore, I'd like to bring a couple with me, but heard that you can only get one "drink" at a time with the card. Has anyone done this before? Thanks!
jg51 Posted July 27, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks to everyone. I enjoyed reading ALL of the responses -- from the serious ones (e.g., City_Woman), to the funny ones (e.g., Jerry and Shelly), to the informative ones (e.g., dzcruisers). I greatly appreciate the tip, "BKFlowerMound," about the "off-menu" drinks available in the Molecular Bar. Hello, "pisces223." You heard correctly. You can get only one bottle of water with your card. If you are traveling with someone who also has a card, you can get two bottles, but both cards must be presented (even if by just one person). Are you sure that you need more than one bottle? Did you notice that you can get a large Evian or San Pellegrino, which (I believe) are about 34 ounces (= just over one quart/liter). [Excuse me if this seems "indelicate," but if you take too much water ashore, you may be constantly in search of a restroom.]
ncdisneynut Posted July 28, 2010 #14 Share Posted July 28, 2010 Just off the Millennium for a 7 day in Alaska. We purchased the premium drink package. I loved it. In 7 days, i had 88 drinks that were on the final bill. It was well worth it. I would run to cafe cove first thing in the am in sweats and a t shirt, and grab a latte. I would grab a large water for the excursions, wine in the afternoon and drinks at night. It was great to order different drinks that I normally would not try since I didn't have to worry about the final bill. I only felt any attitude from the server at dinner. He just didn't seem to want to get me a second glass of wine. I learned to swing by the bar on the way into dinner, that way I had a glass and could order a second one at dinner. allezoop Posted July 28, 2010 #19 Share Posted July 28, 2010 Has anyone ever tried adding a drink package mid-way in the cruise? We will be on the Mercury for 12 nights in November. 5 of those days will be in port, and we don't think it will be very economical for port days. We were leaning towards going a la carte until day 7 or 8 and then trying to pick up the premium package for the rest of the cruise. Is this possible? Thanks. Jobeth66 Posted July 28, 2010 #20 Share Posted July 28, 2010 Thank you, mods!! I requested this thread be made a sticky so that folks with questions could be directed right to it, rather than making sure it stayed "bumped" onto the first page, since the OP, jg51, was kind enough to compile all the prices together - it would be a shame to have it "lost" on the boards. I don't usually drink cocktails, just wine with dinner. However, I would enjoy the juices and teas.I am going on the Solstice Oct 24. Thanks Tom:) Tom, when I called Celebrity last week, the rep. told me that the wine packages (3) were not available on Solstice. I believe she was right because I later saw it as a footnote on the Celebrity website. That is indeed unfortunate. Out of all the lists I have seen posted, I have yet to see a Wine List by the bottle with the prices. Would my "HERO" JG51 happen to have one of those? jg51 Posted July 29, 2010 Author #25 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Thanks to all who have left messages since my last visit here (over 24 hours ago). A special thanks to Jobeth66, who persuaded CrCr to make this thread "sticky." Unless it is overlooked as a "Sticky" thread, it should save a lot of people a lot of time. I would like to respond to some of you who posted messages most recently ... Hello, "atlgators." Speaking of the beverage list, you told "dzcruisers" this: "Actually it is 7 printable pages." It is not really necessary, however, to use seven sheets of paper. If you use "Select All/Copy/Paste" into a modifiable window (such as an MS Word document, a Notepad TXT file, or an e-mail message page), you can make a lot of changes to the beverage list before printing the result (possibly just one sheet of paper). You can delete any lines or sections that are of no interest to you ... or (in Word) you can re-structure the info in multiple columns. Hello, "chicagogal" (Patty). You wrote this: "Does anyone happen to recall seeing where one of my favorites (from below) can be found on Equinox? Cakebread, Sauvignon Blanc $10" I was able to find it on a picture of page 4 of the (Solstice's) Ensemble Lounge bar menu. [That page refers to Murano.] I don't know if Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc is available anywhere else. Hello, "riandei." You wrote this: "Are the lattes and special coffee drinks available on classic or just premium ... or better said ... is ANY drink under 8 dollars available on classic ... like a frozen margarita or daquiri's ---would they be available on classic ??? is premium just good for the molecular martinis and high end scotch ??? better wine ???" ALL drinks, whether alcoholic or not, costing $8 or less per serving are included in the Classic [Alcoholic] Package. ALL non-alcoholic drinks costing $8 or less are included in the Classic Non-Alcoholic Package. ALL drinks, whether alcoholic or not, costing $12 or less per serving are included in Premium [Alcoholic] Package. All non-alcoholic drinks costing $12 or less are included in the Premium Non-Alcoholic Package. NO drink costing more than $12 per serving is included in any of the four packages -- but must be paid for separately (full price, not partial). The "martini tasting" session ($15) is not included in any package. Hello, "allezoop." You wrote this: "Has anyone ever tried adding a drink package mid-way in the cruise? ... We were leaning towards going a la carte until day 7 or 8 and then trying to pick up the premium package for the rest of the cruise. Is this possible?" Yes. Here is how Celebrity states it, on one of their FAQ pages: "FAQ: Can I purchase [online, in advance] a beverage package for a portion of my cruise?" "A: No, [if purchased in advance,] it must be purchased for the entire voyage. It can be purchased on board[, however,] up until there are 2 nights left in the cruise, and it must be purchased for the remainder of the voyage." Hello, "Fighterone." In your first message, you wrote this: "Where is the Molecular Bar on Solstice? Are the daily specialty drinks the only ones that come in a souvenir glass unless you request a regular glass? What martinis have you all tried and which ones are your favorites?" I can answer only the first question, but hope that others will reply to the other two. I have read that the Molecular Bar is either in, or is a different name for, "Galleria Tastings," which is on Deck 5, next to Bistro on 5. (The deck layout, however, does not mention the name, "Molecular Bar," for some reason.) In your second message, "Fighterone," you wrote this: "I have yet to see a Wine List by the bottle with the prices. Would [you] happen to have one of those?" One page at the Celebrity site says that the smaller ships have over 300 varieties of wine, while the larger ships have over 450. I can quickly send you to a 22-page list from June of 2008 (posted by "little britain"), but I don't know how accurate it would remain: http://travel.webshots.com/album/564642780vYlqpC Here is one (posted by "Lsimon") from later in 2008: http://simon-pics.smugmug.com/Cruises/Cruise-Ship-Rooms-and-Features/Menus-and-Information/4467773_J9pi2#380496420_LXanH I will try to find a much more recent wine list that I have now "misplaced" -- one that was used for preparing part of the big list, above. Aha! Here it is (posted by "Albert Ross," who referred to it as the MDR wine list): http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=160677&d=1277749749 Although the above list is substantial, I have a feeling that many other wines (by the bottle) may be available elsewhere on the ship, perhaps at the Cellar Masters Lounge. Aha, again! I just found THEIR list via a lucky search. Scroll down to see pages 5 through 9 here: http://www.spittoon.biz/images/pdf_uploads/Cellarmasters%20Wine%20Menu%204.7.10.pdf In closing, I'd like to quote three more FAQ & A from the Celebrity site, covering topics that have come up here at CrCr more than once in the last two months: "FAQ: How will I be identified as having purchased a beverage package?" "A: An icon will be placed on your SeaPass Card for each package which indicates your participation. You will be asked to show your SeaPass Card whenever you'd like a beverage to confirm that you've purchased the relevant package." [if a package is purchased on board, rather than in advance, a sticker will be placed on the card. (JG51)] "FAQ: What is the difference between the 'Premium Coffees' ([available in the] Classic and Premium Nonalcoholic Packages) and the 'Specialty Coffees' ([available in the] Classic and Premium [Alcoholic] Packages?" "A: Premium coffees (e.g. espressos, lattes and capuccinos) are served in our coffee lounges, such as the Cova Bar and Café al Bacio.
