Do you really think the Dawn is no different from the Bliss? To avoid smoke on the Dawn means avoiding anywhere near the casino, the whole port (or was it starboard) side of the outside decks, just to name a couple large areas.

Dawn is typical of many ships, but Bliss is much different and for those that want to avoid smoke, a very good alternative and on Bliss it is very easy to avoid the smoking areas.

We were on the Bliss in May going through the Panama Canal and hardly noticed any smoke anywhere. The Casino was glass enclosed so that the smokers could revel in inhaling their own smoke over and over! ! Good for them, I'm glad they get to enjoy it, if that's what they want. But, for the rest of us who don't want to breathe their smoke, it was a great Cruise !

Is the Sunset bar enclosed, open to the outside or ? Where does the smoke go? Thanks.

To the OP: You might want to read up on NCL's Bliss. Smoking sections are isolated and/or remote. Enclosed area of casino, enclosed cigar bar, and one back corner of Spice H2O. We also hate 2nd hand smoke and found Bliss to be the most smoke free cruise we've ever been on. We hope NCL will model more ships after Bliss in this regards.
This is great information, thanks! It seems like a good compromise that allows smokers several places to smoke, while keeping the majority of the ship smoke free. I especially like that the smoking section of the casino is enclosed. People often have the attitude that if you like gaming, then you simply have to deal with smoke.

So your point is that different people have different sensitivities to smoke or perhaps perfume. Perhaps different reactions to allergens. They will have to decide if it's worth the risk.

yes, pretty much. As I said and asked my hubby about this as well, and he agreed, we didn't find the tobacco smell at all annoying on the Dawn. On the Epic and Breakaway is was a little annoying.

We found that half the ship was unusable for us because of cigarette and cigar smoke last week. If you are not very sensitive to it, you will be fine. However, with all open deck areas on one side of the ship and a cigar lounge beside Gatsby's and a constantly smoke-filled casino making that lower deck unusable, as well as the Asian restaurant directly upstairs, we decided we would not ever use the Dawn again. In fact, we are looking at other cruise lines with less of a pong in the air for future bookings.

Just telling you what I wish someone had told us.

THANK YOU!!!!! Valuable info.

Yup,

Take a look at Celebrity. No smoking anywhere inside on Celebrity ships and only a few outdoor areas to smoke. Even at the Sunset bar the smoking and non-smoking sides are pretty far apart and most of the time the smoke doesnt waft over to the non-smoking side.

I had the exact same experience when on the Pearl this Spring. It seemed you could not get away from smokers. The pool area was half smokers and made sitting there quite unpleasant.

On the Pearl, the fact you had to walk through the casino to get to the theater made it very bad.
