Royal Caribbean is now running background checks

Royal Caribbean is running background checks on all prospective passengers and will deny boarding if one does not answer their questions or if they are not satisfied with the answers. They don't factor in if you've previously cruised with them and are an Emerald or Diamond member either.

I don't know if they're looking at all felonies/misdemeanors or mainly targeting people listed in the sex offender registry. My advice is to complete your set sail pass well in advance so you're not surprised by this a few days before your cruise. Get your attorney involved if you have one. Possibly contact RC about your background before they contact you about it to show good faith.

Nothing new about this. Every passengers name is screened and turned over to gov't officials prior to embarkation. Soo if you have a warrant, have a nasty felony record, or are a registered sex offender most likely not a good idea to cruise...

They've been running checks on passengers all along. Anyone with warrants are taken into custody. It's a regular occurrence.

This or some form of this has been done for years. Deadbeats are often caught at the pier, if you can afford to cruise then pay your support

I fully support this because airlines do this with the TSA. I would not want to be sailing with someone who could potentially be unsafe. I'm sure Royal Caribbean is trying to cover their basis so the cruise will be as safe as possible.

Other cruiselines have had issues so if Royal is trying to make it safer for us then more power to them. Anyways when you show your Passport they can access InterPol to see any criminal convictions or Visa overstay etc.

Respect the laws like normal and productive citizens and follow your probation/parole rules and you wouldn't have had a problem.

If you have an outstanding warrant, or violating probation, etc... I'm completely for it!

IF, you have done your time and fulfilled all the requirements and are now a productive member in society then you should be able to cruise like anyone else. You shouldn't continue to get judged again for a past offense that you have fulfilled. If it is a serious repeat offender with a long history then I could see where some judgment is warranted.

I have a real problem with the "sex offender" label. It is frequently misapplied. I have often said you're better off murdering someone in cold blood than being labeled a sex offender. At least for murder you can do your time and put it in the past. The sex offender label never goes away. I have seen it misapplied too many times to kids in school or just out of school that dated, sometimes in a serious relationship, and are only a couple years apart. In some cases I've heard of them getting married and being together for many years but because he was 18 and she was 17 when they met he's a sex offender for life. Stupid. Now if it is a 45yo man perving on a 11yo kid that is a completely different story. The problem is they are all treated exactly the same which does justice for no one.

I served on a jury for a domestic abuse case. It was a he-said, she-said case. Problem was she wasn't even at the trial, but we were not allowed to hold that against her. Once the trial was over, I found out as a jury how manipulated we had been by the judge and atty and the information were not given. If it wasn't for that, the verdict would not have been guilty!

It's not really a criminal background check. Not sure what it's called but it's in conjuncture with homeland security. They just want to make sure you're not a wanted criminal or psychopath

You sure about that? Something like 11 state have age of consent as 18, with some additional states allowing for charges under corrupting or endangering a minor even if they are >Age of Consent but <18.

Also, if you were to photograph and (intentionally or accidentally) distribute inappropriate pictures of your 17 yo sig other, independent of whether you're >18 or not you could also get hit w/it. Yeah I am sure of that. Just because age of consent is 18 doesnt mean an 18yr old will get a 19yr old in trouble.

Also the link you provided mentions no charges except possible trouble with school like being suspended. Secondly the girl was 15. So if a boy was distributing pics of her I have no problem with that prosecution.
