B2B unique problem

My wife and I are doing a B2B this Dec on the Crown. My elderly parents are accompaning us on the first week only. Their flight doesn't leave till 3 pm. I would like to accompany them to the airport so I can assist with baggage and make sure they get situated.

I've done B2B's before and know the normal procedure is to wait till everyone else is off the ship, then we go through customs, etc. as a group of B2B pax.

I would like my parents to wait towards the end of disembarkation before getting off. I know this will not be a problem. My question:

Can I arrange to get off with them, go through customs and then return after I escort them to FLL? Anyone have any experience with this. If not, I will ask the pursers desk and play it by ear

TIA,

Mark

Our experience -- the Purser's Desk is always the problem. If they say No, go away and come back in a few hours and ask again and politely ask if you could talk to the supervisor (who is always inside).

...

As said, talk to the purser about this a few days before the end of the first cruise.

...

...

Talk to the Purser's desk when you get on board.

Ask the purser desk to give you the last debarkation luggage tags for them. Go off the ship with them, thru customs with them and then to the airport. when they check in, ask the counter agent for gate passes for yourself and anybody else to get them to the gate, thru TSA. when they are boarded 1st (being ederly) you can get a cab downstairs at FLL airport (luggage area) back to the port and get back on the ship.

I must be very lucky, as I can not remember the last time I had a problem with the purser's desk onboard a Princess ship. :o I have always tried to go when they weren't busy though, and they have gone out of their way to assist me in whatever small problem or question I have had.

Me too. That's why it's hard to understand why so many people seem to have problems with them.

What time does the ship leave FLL on the second leg of your cruise? I'm not sure I would hang around the airport until they are boarded for a 3pm flight if the ship sails at 4pm. Don't know how long the taxi ride would be, but I'm sure they would want you back on board by 3pm. EM

We have ALWAYS found them helpful and this Nov. will be our 15th and 16th cruises with Princess. My motherinlaw back in Nebraska became very ill on one of our cruises and the Pursers desk helped with checking on flights for us to leave the ship early and provided free ship to shore phone calls for us. They were extremely friendly and provided excellent customer service.

I'm with you and Pia on this one. I have never had a problem with the purser's desk, actually any desk (there are many desks on a ship)..;)

Also the staff have always wanted to help me, are polite and respectful.

I believe the OP will have no trouble assisting his parents on disembarkation. Just ask nicely, they want to help.:D

We did the same thing with our grandkids. My wife escorted them to the airport while I restocked at the local stores.

I just want to get their baggage checked in and see them to the security lines. Maybe we will grab a bite before they go through security, but I can't remember if FLL has any restaurants on the outside of security. I figure if we disembark around 1030, I'll be back by 1pm, at the latest.

They are flying Delta. Does anyone know if there are any restaurants before security?

If you're docked at #2/4 there are restaurants within walking distance on 17th St. But if you'll be back by 1:00, just go back on board and have lunch.

Yes, there is a restaurant before the security area at the airport. :) We have often had lunch there when we had a late flight.

I did exactly that with my mother in Fort Lauderdale. I filled in the disembarkation form requesting tags for the latest disembarkation. I received tags for a earlier disembarkation, went down to the pursers desk at 11pm when there was no queue and they swapped them for the latest time. We disembarked last, went through immigration and customs, although I used my in transit card so there was no customs for me, went to the airport, went to the gate, she boarded the plane and I took a taxi back to the ship. I was without any hassle.

I have also found the pursers desk to be extremely helpful and polite. I have watched them being harangued by passengers about things that they have no control over (such as the scampi is not fresh but tinned - not true but the passenger was insistent for some reason, or that a passenger has to get off the ship at 10am and then have to hang around the airport so what does the purser intend to do to make the day go better for the passenger?) and they are invariably polite or will hand off the passenger to a more senior staff member.

Delta terminal has NO food before TSA. I live 5 minutes from FLL, took my parents to airport (Delta), last month, you have a Miami Subs and a Sbarro on the other side of TSA. Some terminals do have food before TSA, but not Delta at terminal 2. Terminal 2 has a Dunkin Donuts and an Eddys Ice cream before TSA, but no restaurant. Sorry.

Thanks for the correction Al, I swore we flew delta last time. I must have confused our airlines/Terminals. :(

Sorry OP! :(

No problem, the pizza was awful at Sbarro's. Terminal 3 the old Continental has a restaurant before TSA, must have eaten there 100 times in the past 20 years.

That must be what I was thinking of Al. Just glad you saw the error and corrected it. Wouldn't have wanted the OP to go searching the terminal for something that wasn't there.
