Question re: The Behind the Fun Tour

Those stairs got to me too! Totally sober I felt like I was falling!

The tour of the bridge being included is what makes it really worth it. Sounds like fun. How long did it take?

Our tour was just shy of 4 hours including about a half hour on the bridge.

Thanks for all of the info! I'm even more excited now that I have the full scoop. I sure hope that since we're sailing the Atlantic in December we don't have seas too rough to allow for the tour. I imagine if we really get to rocking, Carnival isn't going to allow us to climb those tricky staircases.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Just off the Victory on the October 4th sailing and my wife and I took this tour. It was mentioned during the tours talk. At first my wife was reluctant to go but when the tour was over she was glad she did it. First there was only 3 of us on this tour. It was worth every penny and all we kept on saying was "wow". We met many of the Dept heads on this tour including the environmental officer, head of engineering, head chef and the Captain. They all came and spoke to us and answered any questions that you had. It was very personable. We spent a good 15 minutes talking to the captain and he answered every question asked and more and then then one of the officers continued on at the bridge. You also receive 4- 8x10 photos which are taken along the way. While the $95 dollar price may scare some people away, it was well worth it.

Well lemme ask this question for those of you in the know....

If there's 3,000 or so guests on board, and lets say that out of that, there is 100 who do want to take this tour, do they make additional tours avail, or is it sorry charlie ?

I"ve been on the Spirit a few times but would love to see the "behind the scenes" places. I've read Cruise Confidential, while the book wasn't that great to me, I'd love to see all the places mentioned.

Anyone done it on the Spirit??

Thanks!!

So does anyone think it will be offered on the Dream?? We are booked in December and this is our first Carnival cruise as we've only done RCI in the past. Would love to sign up for this tour to really compare the lines.

Yes it is. I was on the tour this past Saturday on the Carnival Dream. There were two tour groups with ours being the first with 15 guests. Our tour guide was a Corporate Trainer assigned to this ship. In addition to what was mentioned earlier, a continental breakfast was offered in the meeting lounge (Song Lounge) as well as the halfway break (pit stop) in the Crew Lounge. We also got to sample just out of the oven cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, and mini pastries while in the Galley. It was very well organized as each department head was there to give an overview and answer questions when we entered their various domains. The tour guide was using her phone to let each one know we were coming so that they would be ready for us. I received 5 8 x 10 pictures from the tour the next evening.

I'm sure someone at Carnival got the idea of this from Disney, as they have been doing a backstage tour of Disney World for years (not free). Disney also has their own "I-95" under the Magic Kingdom LOL.

When I took the tour on the Pride last month, I bought it at the purser's desk while we were waiting to get formal pictures done before dinner on the second night. I was in the second group. I only heard about it because we had the TV on while we were getting dressed for dinner, and the shore excursion talk was on, and this was when it was mentioned. No funky catwalk like floors (like you would see on a Navy ship, at least the ones they show on TV shows) but there were some narrow and steep stairwells. We did take the elevator from B deck up to whatever deck the bridge is on, and then several people rode up to the steakhouse from there, while the rest of us went up the stairs.

Too bad it's not open for the disabled, cause I'd love to go (I use a walker).

Matt, you're always so positive, upbeat and charming! And I thought I was the resident Negative Nelly on this board! :p

See, my biggest problem with this board is that the mods can't police it like they should and don't seem to have any problem at all with having multiple threads about the exact same thing day after day, or you have the posters like ssatterly (or whatever her name is) that start dozens of threads about whatever mindless idea flits through her tiny, little mind. The result is that the "good" threads end up on Page 5 after about 2 hours.

ANYWAY...

there was a great thread recently that gives you all the details. Apparently many people missed it because of the above reasons.

I had no intention of spending that sort of money to do a tour onboard the ship, but after reading that thread, I think I'd really enjoy it.

Some of us actually are curious about things, Matt. Laying by the pool drinking buckets of beer all day may be fine for some (not saying that's what you do, but a lot of people do), but anything that will broaden my knowledge is a good thing, even if I have to pay for it.

And I am ashamed to say that I live in the same wonderfull State of NC as you. You are rude and always out of line.

I was the one who wrote that thread, so if you have any questions about it let me know and I will try and answer. It was definitely worth the fee if you are fascinated about ships, as I am.

I took it on the Liberty and it was well worth the $95. For security reasons, they need to restrict the number of tourists. However, all of the staff were gracious and very happy to tell us about their roles on the ship and show us where they worked including the Captain. We got a goody bag, treats, photos and drinks. DH has always wanted to go to the very edge and this tour allowed him to do that.

It was interesting to hear and see what goes on to keep us "guests" happy.

BTW on the Liberty - the morgue and the brig are next door to each other.

I should have said that the tour itself is a good idea, and I would go on it. For "Free", I would never pay $95....

Now someone ask if it is ok to take liquor onboard, or if Cabin 6309 is any good !!!!!!!

People value things differently...While the $95 was a steep fee but to me is worth it...some people spend money in the spa, others buy buckets of beer all week, while others just get cash advances in the casino.. The value here to me is it was a 3 hour tour and we got to see things that are out of the ordinary. For me personally just walking onto the bridge and seeing the view was worth it. Also we were given a number of photographs as well as other items. I found it money well spent (and it was both my wife and I who went so the charge was $190)

That's what I said at first! But curiosity got the better of me, and to me it was worth the money. I would skip a port tour, or refrain from using the casino, if it meant I could go on this tour.
