getting from seward poprt to anchorage

The train is the most scenic, and the regular train leaves Seward at about 6:00 p.m. ($75/pp in 2009: http://www.alaskarailroad.com/arrc18.html#2) The cruise line will offer a morning train that costs more. I would book a very late flight home (~ 1:30 a.m.) so I could spend the day in Seward, or else stay overnight in Anchorage and fly home the next day. Actually - I would stay for at least a few days after the cruise ends. :)

The bus is always, my last choice. My opinion only. There also is a one way rental car option through Hertz. Yes, costly, but offers you plenty in the way of touring and allowing you to stop and go, all along the way. Plenty to see and do. Consider doing SOMETHING extra and not be in a rush to get out. You may be missing some big opportunities.

What is the best way to get from seward to anhorage by bus or train? Do you know the cost of either one? How do you get to airport when you get there?

The Train from Seward to Anchorage. Without question !! You walk off the ship and right onto the Train it leaves about 8:00am gets to Anchorage airport about noon. Walk off the Train right into the airport. The Train was one of the best parts of our trip. There are drinks (yummy hot chocolate) and food being served and the tour guide was awesome. We saw so many sights including glaciers and she gave so much info. the Train engineer actually slowed down so we missed nothing ! The bus while faster only sees the highway (ugh). However you must have a flight leaving Anchorage no earlier the 2:00pm. We were on the ROS northbound May 22, 2009 Vancouver to Seward. Alaska is beautiful ENJOY. Any questions? We booked round trip (offered by RCCL) transfers, bus from Vancouver airport to ship and train to Anc. airport. We had never used transfers on any of our other cruises before but it was the best decision for Alaska.

Are you kidding? That had to be the s-l-o-w-e-s-t train ride I have ever been on! :D Lots of fun though, and the ride was beautiful.

I found this bus tour on www.shoretrips.com and will be doing it on our June 18, 2010 RCI cruise.

This wonderful tour and transfer all in one includes:

• Portage Glacier

• Beluga Point

• Windy Point

• Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

• Potter's Marsh

• Narration by long-time Alaskan escort/guide

• Complimentary Beverages, ie. water, soda

leaves at 9am, also stops at Exit Glacier, Summit Lodge for lunch, arrives in Anchorage about 4-5pm. (which is better than the later train). $186 drops off at hotel or airport

has anyone done this tour????

You also might want to look at booking this directly with the operator?? They then would be able to answer any questions you may have. I haven't been on this tour, but certainly have been to all the places listed. I would ask, how long are you at Exit- and if there in a timeframe for a Ranger program, which is excellent. Will this include time at Portage Glacier visitor center, or is it the boat ride, both?? Beluga Point and Windy Point, will be brief stops, both very small areas, and what the excitement is all about- belugas and bore tides would be extremely rare to see, on a fixed tour. But be sure to have your binoculars handy and look up in the hills, Dall Sheep sometimes. Summit Lodge is excellent. Although costly, this sounds like a potential, great transfer option.

I have purchased the Milestone, I am planning on renting a car through Hertz for the drive to Anchorage fro Seward. Could you possibley list some of the must stops along the way? We do plan on taking out time. Our flight to Kodiak isn't until 7:30. Also, any must sees while in Kodiak? Thank you..and I apologize to the OP for using their post.

I have not been to Kodiak. Stop at the Portage Glacier Visitor Center, if you have time, consider a glacier cruise. Stop where you wish along the Arm, plenty of pull offs, you never know what you'll see. Girdwood, has the tram, an interesting drive to Hope, detour to Cooper Landing, and Kenai River on the Sterling. Plus plenty else. Keep your eyes open and stop when and where you wish.

Just curious what you are going to Kodiak for??? There really isn't much there. Fishing is better in Homer/Seward. And if you think you are going for bears, you are mistaken. The bear tours from Kodiak for most of the summer are to the Katmai, which is more easily accesible from Homer (and has one of the best bear tours in Alaska).

If you want a real thrill, take the ferry out of Homer to Kodiak or even to Dutch Harbor. FAR greater thrill than flying into Kodiak unless you have a specific reason to go to Kodiak.
