Rare Lois R Posted December 6, 2009 #26 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Hi,:) I just think it is very weird if they are going to give a new ship the same name as they have given Equinox's restaurant:rolleyes:.... It might be a nice name but don't they think it could be quite confusing:confused:...or maybe that is just me:eek:
pumpkin 11 Posted December 6, 2009 #27 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I would still like to see celebrity stay with the astronomical theme. i love aurora, meridean, ect. silhouette is okay, but they could come up with something better.:)

jeroen_471 Posted December 6, 2009 #29 Share Posted December 6, 2009 They are already building ship number 4 at Meyer Werft Germany, how about Celebrity Lunar as a name?
Bohemian Posted December 6, 2009 #30 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I like Sunrise, but Sunset sounds like a retirement home... Strictly demographically speaking, that's not too far off the mark... :D I vote for Meridian :p
dkjretired Posted December 6, 2009 #31 Share Posted December 6, 2009 They are already building ship number 4 at Meyer Werft Germany, how about Celebrity Lunar as a name? Where did you get that information, they have not announced an official first steel cutting or anything which they have done on every ship... mobster75 Posted December 6, 2009 #32 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Could it be that "Silhouette" is just a codename being used for the ship until its officially announced? I know lots of other industries use semi-random codenames for products in development. Two examples that come to mind are Microsoft's Windows Vista was codenamed "Longhorn" before it was officially announced and Windows 7 was "Vienna". marinearchit Posted December 6, 2009 #33 Share Posted December 6, 2009 Lets all not forget that they have to also keep up the tradition that all their ships are named after cars..... I think that is my favorite post on this thread! :D I also do like Silhouette, it fits with Celebrity IMO. It's not directly in line with Solstice, Equinox, and Eclipse, but that may be what they want if they plan to have S-class 4&5 differ from the other three a bit. tom_uk Posted December 6, 2009 #34 Share Posted December 6, 2009 According to the Meyerwerft site, the conveyance of Eclipse has been moved up to mid March. That's very interesting.... Southampton is going to be busy in late March/early April. P&O have a new ship, Azura, being delivered at the same time, with a naming ceremony on 10 April and her first cruise on 12 April. The Eclipse launch is currently scheduled to fit in after that. But if Eclipse is delivered early - well, I wonder if there's a "gentlemen's agreement" to avoid clashes over events such as these, or if Celebrity will re-schedule Eclipse's inauguration to steal some of P&O's thunder? There's a lot of interest about Eclipse in UK cruising circles, whereas Azura is not that exciting - she's yet another Grand Princess class, and not even P&O's first ship of that class (Ventura was the first). marinearchit Posted December 6, 2009 #36 Share Posted December 6, 2009 I can see what mobster75 means. The only thing I'd find odd would be assigning a codename to the fourth ship in a class. When they roll out a new class, that's usually what gets the codename. Solstice was "Challenger", Oasis was "Genesis", etc.
Sailaways_ Posted December 6, 2009 Author #37 Share Posted December 6, 2009 For everyone who said that Silhouette doesn't fit in with the other names in the class...do Century/Galaxy/Mercury all go together? Not really. Neither do Millennium/Infinity/Summit/Constellation. So it's not like they all have to match in order to be in the same class. I can see Silhouette being the name, despite the fact that the dining room on Equinox has that name. The nightclub on Infinity is Constellation, then the next ship issued was of that same name. if anything, I think the repeat is a sign that that might happen. I doubt sooo many people would have heard Silhouette (over the past year even) if it weren't the name. now they're referring to it by yard #, of course. we'll have to wait and see I guess. And hey, if that's not the name, I love the pairing of Sunrise and Sunset. Very pretty. I think it's too early to bring back Meridian, Zenith, Horizon, and Galaxy, even though I love those names. I like your idea about the 4th and 5th being slightly different, and pairing them because of that. Silhouette and Shadow, maybe? They both go well with Celebrity. kikki21 Posted December 7, 2009 #39 Share Posted December 7, 2009 I do like the Sunrise and Sunset names but 2 I have just thought of are... Celebrity Comet and Celebrity Corona.......perhaps I should patent them!!! And they are both to do with astronomy......:)
cruiserbryce Posted December 7, 2009 #40 Share Posted December 7, 2009 huh...while it doesnt seem to fit with the other 3 names...its not bad...I would imagine if lines are trying to stay unique its getting a bit challenging. With all the lines and all the names we are seeing more and more duplicating.

Andy Posted December 7, 2009 #44 Share Posted December 7, 2009 It's Celestial and sounds very much like my experience in the casino on the Equinox two weeks ago... Hi Don ! Funny. I had the same experience in Constellation's Casino a few weeks ago. When Casino Manager came around with a bucket to put expired raffle tickets in, I told him that he might as well save time, and throw my chips in the bucket too. It got a nice laugh from everyone at the table. Fast forward to 30 minutes later... you guessed it... the stack of chips was gone. As I said in my review, Win Some, Lose Some ! kelmac Posted December 7, 2009 #45 Share Posted December 7, 2009 I don't know about you, but come March 2012 I will be on the Celebrity Parallax and in December we will cruise Celebrity's Prominence!:) Maybe it will be the Nebula? Nova? Luminosity? ..., Just a WAT (wild a** thought) Silhouette does not match the naming scheme. Enjoy! Kel:D

After thinking about booking a Celebrity cruise you enter the "Event Horizon" -- a place where nothing escapes the gravitational pull of a Black Hole. :p:)
