kroeser Posted December 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2009 What is the name of the port that we leave from in Dover? How far is it from the Dover Castle? (the one with the war time secret tunnels) Just wondering if there is time to visit this on the morning of embarkation. Has anyone been to the Dover Castle? Do you recommend it or not? Any reviews or information would be greatly appreciated on sites in Dover. Thank you
Globaliser Posted December 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2009 The cruise terminal is situated in what is sometimes known as Dover Western Docks.

Thank you We were in Dover for the embarkation to the Baltic cruise last year and had time enough to see the castle on our own. For details go to the following: http://www.*****.com/Dover.html After the bus trip from Heathrow to Dover most people just sat around for the next four to six hours. Our personnal luggage had been stored near the swimming pool since they would not let us into our cabins when we first arrived. We decided to take a taxi to the castle and toured the grounds and buildings. However, because of the time scheduling for the underground tunnels, we were not able to see those. Afterwards we walked down the hill into town and had a glass of beer before walking back to the dock. It was time well spent.

Dover can be a little confusing, especially, if you are returning a rental car. We had to return it to the eastern dock area and nearly got in the line to get on a auto carrier heading to France. From the below pictures, you can see that this is a busy port with the castle and white cliffs overlooking the action. We didn't visit Dover Castle. It is suppose to be interesting for its World War II connections and items. In southern England, there are lots of great gardens, houses, castles, churches, villages, etc. We focused on some of those options before departing on our cruise to the Baltics. THANKS! Enjoy! We enjoyed the tour and were there for a couple of hours. I would recommend the visit. If I remember correctly it is located about ten minutes from the port. I just want to point out that for people with any difficulties walking they should pass on this tour. Otherwise I highly recommend it.
